@@arthurgordon6072 Yeah, there is a lot wrong about the "new" format. There was nothing really amiss with the old opening titles, but the theme music has always been incredibly annoying. So, which gets kept and which gets thrown out? Also the old set was constructed in such a way that when one team was placed on top of each other it was impossible to "see the join" to quote Eric Morecambe -- now it looks like a poorly executed low buget film special effect. And yes, to your point, I agree, I don't think the new set serves Amol at all well. And the decision to drop the cards in favour of the monitor also serves to diminish him and we lose that incredible dynamic of Paxo tossing the cards aside and always making eye contact with the teams. Still he's doing a great job and the way he talks to the losing team will I think quickly become his hallmark.
Very unusual to not only have all 8 players get one, but two starters :). Nice to see although the dominant buzzers are always fun to watch. Alas, for the losers, I don't think that score will be enough for the HSL bracket given how the series has gone - those four penalties potentially costing them so so dear :(.
Agreed, he was lovable in a way I get that, but he was a bit much at times. Needlessly irritated 24/7, "let's just get on with it shall we", apparently he's got better places to be!
I am also happy UCL won, but for no other reason that Ward looked down the lens of the camera when answering. Both creepy and bad manners. He should be addressing the quiz master.
Izzatdust? Gold dust, more likely. Two very good teams, but the winners are definitely a stronger lineup. Impressed with Sawh's quick buzzes, when she's sure of her answer she will just scorch it. Might bring some crucial points in the future. And they had good teamwork, assembled some of the double answers from two players' suggestions.
First off thanks again, CosmicPumpkin! The winning team seemed unbeatable early on, buzzing in quick and efficiently answering all the bonus questions correctly. They then cooled off a bit, and let their opponents back into it. The losing team was just a little slower on the buzzer, and at times were their own worst enemy. They also took way too long to confer, even when it was apparent that none of them knew the answer. That said, good effort by both teams, and my best to each individual.
Great match. Two comments: 1. Don't see why "telegram" wasn't acceptable. 2. As an American, I have to point out that Mackinac is pronounced "Mackinaw."
Thanks for the upload Pumpkin! This was an exciting match! It’s pretty rare to see matches where every single person contributes. Hoping we can see King’s again, a bit unlikely but we never know haha
I was surprised they thought The Faerie Queen was based on Henry V, and blew a question that required the answer Becky Sharp. And they don't listen -- I thought I saw one guy mouth "Sontag" to a question featuring the words "she" and "her" in the question, then they answered "Harold Bloom." Not strong on music, either, classical or pop.
The university where I teach has around 60.000 students (not including other few thousands postgrad students), but then again my country has 220 million people, so I guess that doesn't feel as huge as it would feel in the UK 😊
Amol frequently adds "of course" after confirming a correct response - - an unfortunate habit which makes the winner's knowledge seem less impressive, while give the impression that Arnol himself knows it all.
the first picture round [indonesian islands and regions] seemed a bit too easy? the islands are either one of the major ones [sumatra, sulawesi/celebes] or really popular [bali for tourist reasons, mollucas for historical reasons]. ....then again i might be really biased because i live in indonesia and it's something that got drilled into our heads at grade school, so it might be bit harder for them.
Speaking as someone who's never been to Indonesia, the only ones of those I had ever heard of was Sumatra and Bali, so I don't think is that easy for non-Indonesians 😊 (But I do feel that same you do about questions on my own country 😅)
I wonder if "et cetera" would have been an acceptable alternative for "and so on" on the USW [und so weiter] question. Celebes is an acceptable alternative name for Sulawesi.
