University Confusion : Leuven? Louvain? Louvain-la-Neuve?

Mulțumesc, Carina, pentru comentariu. Da, locuiesc aici deja de zece ani. Ce activități ți-aș putea recomanda pe criza asta? S-au deschis terasele. 😊 Altfel, avem muzee, teatru, cinema.. dar și păduri, parcuri, lac... Depinde ce îți place. Poți începe cu cele 4 piețe mari ale orașului - Grand'Place, Place de l'Université, Place des Wallons și Place des Sciences, plus promenada în jurul lacului. Pentru cumpărături, centrul comercial l'Esplanade și Rue Charlemagne. Ar fi și altele de văzut. Spune-mi de cauți ceva anume. 😊

Adrian Petrescu oh, asta e ceva. Chiar mă bucur mult că mi-ai apărut în feed că ziceam cât încă mai sunt aici să călătoresc prin regiunile Belgiei. Heh da e puțin mai încercat norocul, dar având în vedere că s-a mai relaxat lumea (în special Belgia) poate prind și ceva ce nu e doar cafenea. La capitolul muzee ar fi chiar tentant dacă ar fi ceva deschis, dacă ai vreun itinerar. Cât despre consumerisme, așa pe lângă cum încă e, ajută google-ul; dar as fi curioasa de locații naturale de prin oraș sau de pe lângă, mă gândesc că poate ai apucat să cutreieri toate spațiile verzi.

Bun, păi zi așa! 😊 În cazul ăsta, îți vor plăcea următoarele: - Bois de Lauzelle. O pădure întinsă, brăzdată de drumușoare și poteci care urcă și coboară. În mijloc, un lac pitoresc. Caută pe Google Maps: Fond de Warlongroux. - Bois des Rêves. Un domeniu provincial la fel de natural și denivelat. Acolo ai și un lac ceva mai civilizat, cu alee asfaltată și un restaurant. Se practică pescuitul sportiv. Mai sunt și câteva pâlcuri de pădure care au fost înconjurate de oraș, dar care au fost totuși păstrate ca arate. Senzația e chiar interesantă. Caută așa: - Chemin Charlier à la Jambe de Bois. E chiar la mine în cartier. O alee pietonală înconjurată de copaci, dar situată totuși între două străzi populate. - Bois de la Palette. Ceva similar, dar parcă o idee mai sălbatic. - Chemin du Commissaire Maigret. O pădurice minusculă urmată de o întindere verde sub formă de amfiteatru. - Chemin des Écoliers + Parc à Lapins. Pădure și parc. - Les Jardins de Moulinsart. O întindere mare, verde, lângă o fermă ecvestră. Dacă ai noroc, poți vedea cai păscând în liniște. În plus, se vede frumos împrejur. Alte obiective inedite sunt clădirile celor două ferme care existau aici înainte să se construiască orașul. Sunt cam singurele "edificii istorice" din oraș și se vede că sunt din alt film dacă le compari cu ce e în jur. - Ferme de Biéreau. Acum devenită sală de concerte. - Ferme de Blocry. Acum devenită sală de teatru. Cât despre muzee, nu cunosc decât două: - Musée Hergé. Dedicat autorului lui Tintin, clădirea în sine e foarte... zgubilitică. Merită văzută chiar din exterior. - Musée L. Sculpturi, picturi și alte obiecte de artă. În clădirea fostei Biblioteci de științe. Interesantă pentru arhitectura vremii. Cam atât deocamdată. Dacă e prea puțin, spune-mi. 😄

No. UCL is the French-speaking university, based in Louvain-la-Neuve. KU Leuven is the Dutch-speaking university, based in Leuven. You can call them sister universities, as they have a common history up to a point, but they are different institutions now. You can check their websites for more information: www.uclouvain.be; www.kuleuven.be.

If UCL stands for Université catholique de Louvain, then yes, it's Louvain-la-Neuve. If you mean University College London, then definitely no. :-)

Oh, sorry, I had no knowledge of the UC Leuven-Limburg. As I can see on their website, this institution comprises several campuses in five Flemish cities (Leuven, Diest, Hasselt, Diepenbeek and Genk). Therefore no, it is not in Louvain-la-Neuve.

The Flemings, dumb at speaking English? It's the first time I'm hearing this and I can tell you it's complete nonsense. They speak very good English in Flanders. Most of them also speak French, as it's the other language of their country. If in Leuven, try any of the two and you can't go wrong.

Uh, the Flemish are among the best English-speakers in Europe... But we can also easily say something about your mother in French or German if you wish.

Indeed. That's because there is no direct train between the two cities. You must change in Ottignies, where you wait around 15 minutes. Then, from Ottignies to Leuven there are only local trains that stop in every village on the way. Buses provide local connections between the cities and the smaller villages, including those not served by the railway. To achieve this purpose, sometimes they even take detours, making thus the journey longer. And again, there's no direct bus between the two cities. You must change in Wavre. In the meantime, both Leuven and Louvain-la-Neuve are well connected to Brussels by either train or bus. I assume there is simply a lower demand for transportation between the two.
