A lot of bleeding heart comments on here ripping on Pete for exposing this. I wonder how many of them 1) have to deal with this nonsense daily and close-up and 2) would ever lift a finger to make an improvement. You let this idiocy go on long enough and Cobourg will be ruined. Businesses will get fed up and leave. Downtown will get hollowed out and jobs and tax revenue will be lost and the whole town will go into a death spiral.
I was born in Cobourg and this is what it has come too. It was a small and quiet town, we grew up in Cold Springs and afterwards moved into town. This fella needs someone to help him, I hope he gets the help he needs...
He needs all of us to help him. Safe stable housing friendship, supports, meal, safer supply programs, a Dr nurses, Look at the modulars in Peterborough. People not living in tents are choosing to go to rehab, a few have full time, work, calls for police down to 4 calls in 6 months from 38 in a yr. Numerous good things. Meet people where they are at.
We used to place our cans in a separate bag for him. He was courteous and tidied up after going through what he wanted. Now, he is a different person. Not a GOOD NEIGHBOR as some would want us to think.
People need to call the police every single time they see things like this, and then videotape what they do when they arrive. Its extremely difficult (or impossible) to hold people like this accountable, but we certainly should be holding the police that are paid to protect us accountable.This person is a very clear threat to themselves as well as the public, and needs to be arrested and held until this threat is gone. That is no different than if you or I were walking around public extremely intoxicated by alcohol and was arrested. We need to focus less on why these people keep doing this, and focus more on why our police just keep allowing this to remain open behavior on our streets. This type of behavior should NOT be allowed by our police.
Very True if you or i left an establishment downtown with one or two glasses of wine too many we would quickly be arrested and charged with intoxication in a public place... Police is is also a bussiness they can make money off working people..but...your not going too squeeze nothing off that guy :(
Not really a police matter. Call a Social worker. They are supposed to handle these needs. If the police get involved then they get blamed if buddy gets hurt. You know...defund the cops and replace with Social Workers. smh

I feel sad people have taken that path and ended up there. However others will get arrested for being drunk in public but we let this happen. So I no longer can bring kids to certain areas of downtown.
This young man is more of a harm to himself than Mr Fisher. He is going through dirty garbage and probably doesn't have access to safe healthy housing with clean water soap a toilet etc. Probably gets ODSP for people with disabilities that is 40% below the poverty line and has to pay rent with that. This breaks my heart as I used to work in the LLS class in port hope high school as a sub contractor through an agency and he was a student there. He has special needs and clearly someone introduced him to some bad things and took advantage of his disability. Heart breaking
What the hell is LLS, it was always called special education. What years did you tech this guy. I went to port hope HS in the early 2000s and he doesn’t look familiar.

This world we live in today makes me sad. This guy (who can be verbally and physically aggressive) has been dumped and left to rot like garbage. Hi Pete,I enjoy your videos,I've traveled to cobourg and surrounding area many times for fishing and other recreational activities, last time I was there we had to watch our gear like a hawk, made us a bit uncomfortable, but coming from Cornwall very used to that. Stay safe.

there is more dignity living as a raccoon than as this poor unfortunate challenged and under-housed young fellow. We can humanly deal with raccoons and relocate them. housing ourselves is truly one of Canada's most serious problems that has not been solved by the government. whatever that is. All levels of government want to pass on the responsibility of mental health services and social housing. So the problem remains as long as citizens keep voting for the same party and people and perpetuate the same irresponsible system.

Maybe hit up the investigators who STILL have not provided answers to Vienna's death at a sanctioned daycare. Why can't you poke yer video lense in their faces , or the regulatory licensing staff who approved a play area with an accessible septic tank only months prior. Thier incomes all give them the stability to not have to scrounge through garbage for cans for money while they sip on coffee go for strolls while still remaining tight lipped and silent of this tragedy that hit the area almost a year ago! Or is that too risky because the power they hold could actually get you charged with harassment. If you can't report to improve lives get out of the business buddy. Based on comments made by locals, he has mental health issues, and sadly, someone took advantage of his autism, introduced him to drugs and now this is where he's at. 😞 Dealers don't care about the person, or even the product... they only care about the money they can make off a regular customer. 😞

Indeed while it may not be obvious to some this long standing community member is a young man that is managing muliple challenges and needs support NOT judgment! Embarrassment and degradation to a human spirit should not be how we operate as a community. What I think is actually sadder is there is a man with a video camera harassing him and thinking it is reporting!
Hopefully they are. And will help him. Where are the enablers who help? What about the people inside their homes while this is happening? What about other posts that state this isn’t the first time.
Sad thing is. There is a young woman and her child in that building. Used to see him doing this daily when they were on division st. He for sure needs help! So sad
This is corner of Division and University directly across from Catholic elementary school and Catholic Church… busy area, and not a site school children or the residents nearby should be subjected to.
Instead of filming the less unfortunate why don't you ask him if he needs any help? Takes real guts to do that instead of hiding behind a camera, and filming the mentality I'll at a disadvantage.
I totally understand many may see this as the photographer simply trying to get a video they can post or sell for profit. We all need to make a living. But whoever took this should've called the authorities to help this lost soul. Not only was this person a threat to themselves, they were a threat to public safety. Whoever was behind the camera taking this lacks a moral compass and compassion.
I live down the street from here and I can assure you that if Pete had called the cops the conversation would have went as follows. Dispatch would have asked what do you want us to do about it? They would have questioned Pete about every personal detail about his ID, full name address, DOB, phone number. They would have then asked him description of the "suspect" and would have promptly proceeded to do nothing about it. No cruiser would drive by and nothing would be done. Call over and time wasted. Keep up the great work Pete this needs to continue to be documented things are only getting worse on the streets of Cobourg.
Why do people always assume there is some "authority" they can call to fix every problem in society. The guy who first responded to your comment is bang on about what (or in this case WOULD NOT) happen.
Showing what some people don’t see. And what others see daily. There are enough places to go. Transition House, The Warming Hub. Salvation Army. Time and time again Transition House isn’t full. It’s approximately two blocks away from where he is. The question might be better asked - where are the people that say they help people like this? Do they only come out on Fridays? Do you have to be at the encampment to get help? One thing you are right about Kim. It is sad.
@petefisher2426 The problem is that it is everywhere. I don't think there are many left who haven't seen this. Filming it isn't going to help stop the crisis, and he might have a place to stay but is to strung out to go there.
