Leeds has an appealing campus that feels safe and quite homely. The campus is located in a perfect position between the vibrant and pretty upmarket city centre 10 minutes walk to the south and the leafy streets and red brick Victorian houses to the north side, located around beautiful Woodhouse Moor, Hyde Park and Headingley where many students live. It is a lovely place to be a student.
Graduated from Leeds in 1972 (yes, nearly 50 years ago!!). I spent much of my time in the chemistry dept, at the right hand end of the Parkinson Building. I visited and did a tour a couple of years ago. The campus has expanded tremendously and the inside of the Union building was unrecognisable. But the chemistry building hadn't changed at all - I'll swear it's even the same paint on the walls! It's a great university.
Daughter went to Leeds University 2016-2019 and loved it. She spent much of her time in the Laidlaw Library. The university and Leeds in general has a very nice feel to it. She felt very much at home there. Loved visiting her and still visit Leeds when we get the chance even though she has graduated.
It’s so weird to see Leeds university like this, I’m from Leeds and visit leeds quite a lot but never been inside their university which it’s so nice to see. It’s looks so pretty & massive as well
how is it there? I’m looking at either Leeds or southampton for philosophy. Just worried as it’s a very social and party uni apparently, and especially with covid im so un sociable at the moment and not confident at all.
I've just finished my first year at Uni of Leeds and I've literally only been to 3 of the buildings! Hopefully restrictions will allow for more on campus time next year!
I’m starting in Leeds this year and I’ll be doing food science and nutrition!! This video is great! I’m an int student so this really gave me a better idea of uni
I visited leeds campus last Monday and saw you walking out of laidlaw library! It was so weird because as I was walking around I wondered if I would see you 😂crazy coincidence as I saw it was your first day out of isolation x
To answer your question that you didn't really ask ;)... I think there's three Caffe Neros on campus - Laidlaw, Business School, and Cityside! I could be forgetting though as study abroad and lockdown means I haven't really been on campus in two years
Hi, thank you for the informative video you've made! It's really useful. Could you please make another video to talk more about the university's academic life... like instructors' feedback and the nature of tasks and research? If you already did, kindly share the link. Thanks.
Really?! I am considering attending LUBS as an exchange student as well! How was your experience, could u tell me? Nobody from my university that had their semester abroad at the University of Leeds attended the Business School so I am curious.
@@pallasminerva1776 for me it was great, I loved everything!! Try to get accommodation in the campus or as close as you can. Also, don’t pick too many classes that are difficult. Focus on living the experience. If you’re not from Europe it’s a great opportunity to travel to other countries too. Or travel around the UK which is beautiful. Think more about your schedule. I filled my schedule with too many classes and I was really stressed and regret not enjoying the experience more. If you can, leave mondays or fridays off so you can travel during the weekend. Just remember this is a great opportunity to be there, not just to study. Also, depending where you come from you may not be used to their weather. I saw snow for the first time in my life there and it was amazing. But I also suffered the effect of the sun going down around 4pm. That was weird and had a negative effect on my mood. Just remember to enjoy as much as you can, meet people, travel and have fun! The campus is amazing, but we don’t have that in my country so maybe it’s normal for you 🤷🏼♀️ have fun!
@@valeb410 Thank you very much for the advice! I have never seen snow as well. As a matter of fact, I live in a tropical country, so the weather is probably going to be a problem haha
Totally different as compared to campus in the 1970s.It looks neat but it's more soothing in the 70s.Especially the student union. It was crowded then but warmth all around. And the department of fuel and combustion science, where I did my master degree, has vanished.
Thank you for making this video. I am at the end of Year 12, I think of my 5 options leeds has jumped to 2nd. 1st is Uni of Sheffield just because I'm a Sheffielder born and bred, I roughly know the campus already etc. But Leeds looks really good especially the 2nd Library you showed and the indoor cafe area!
Well that brought back some memorie, in the late sixties aged about 10, my siblings and I would take detours-nosey around-long cuts on our way to school, one day we decided to investigate a new route. We were near one of those ponds you mentioned, when suddenly we heard a very familer voice shouting at us, it was dad, he was laying the paving stones with a group of other workers. Boy did we get a roasting that night! Mind you it did not stop us investigating, we just checked out where dad was working first.
Rodger stevens is brutalist architecture lol and its Damien hurst's favourite building.. I think its actually a really interesting building and piece of art, wish I went to leeds uni so I could see it on campus (I study architecture)
Pretty sure the Roger Stevens building is Grade II* listed 😂 definitely a different vibe but it’s designed by the same architecture practice who did the Barbican estate which is cool imo
There are 27,000 universities in the world. This year Leeds University is ranked at 86 the QS international tables which brings it within the top one third of one percent of world universities.. It is of course a Russell group university. The top 100 employers in the UK (ie The High Flyers' report which is viewable online) ) publish an annual ranking of the 20 universities whose graduates they favour most. In the real world this counts for quite a lot more than the often baffling and sometimes downright bizarre national rankings that appear in publications like the Times and the Guardian (Lancaster and Loughborough universities were consistently placed as top ten universities in the Times national rankings???!!! You have got to be kidding!!!). For 2022 the High Flyers' list places Leeds at number 5. Cambridge is ranked at number 7 and Oxford is ranked at number 10. Leeds is the wealthiest city in the north of England with upmarket shops, restaurants and cafes. The university has an embracing and safe feeling campus 10 minutes walk from the thriving city centre. On and around the campus there is some lovely architecture and a buzzing social scene. Of the UK's 120 universities Leeds falls consistently within the top three for the number of applicants. With an impressive international standing for the quality of its research and a first rate social scene Leeds will always be a serious choice for a great many academically gifted undergraduates and postgraduates.

I'm going into my 2nd year in Accounting and Finance, while the campus is great and the buildings i went to at the beginning of my 1st year. The pandemic has ruined the 1st year experience, i haven't had on campus sessions since December. Hopefully we will get to go onto campus for our sessions this year
@@zaaramuskaaanxxx7679 I found it interesting as a subject, very theory based with some statistics based maths. (1st year experience). Personally it didn't do it for me as i am a very heavy maths guy but if you are a analytical person who likes the more stats side of maths it a very good subject to do. It is very competitive but also needed a lot and the better university you can get into the better. I personally have decided to change into a maths degree as it just fits me better, but Accounting and Finance type degrees are very good in general. Just make sure to explore all your options and puck what you would enjoy most. Ps. Sorry with the late reply, been busy recently 😅.
I’m going to uni next year and Leeds is one of my top choices so I’m so glad you posted this! Just a quick question, do you know anyone or anything about the fine art course at leeds? ☺️xx
thats where I went, but really wish I hadn't decided to do chemistry, if anyones reading this then don't ever do it unless you absolutely 100% need/want to, its extremely difficult.
I have offers from leeds and glasgow along with birmingham and exeter but i think im gonna choose Leeds in the end.Tthough I am still waiting for an answer from Manchester, well lets hope for the best🤞
Hey ! How’s it going? I stumbled upon your channel last month. I’m not sure if I left a comment or not . I’m Melody! Yesterday I got my my offer to study at the university of leeds. Thanks to you ! You encouraged me a lot, I’m gonna do my masters degree 💙 however, I did my bachelors in Australia 😭 so it’s gonna be a long journey for me! Alright, so if you are comfortable answering me the question 🙋🏻♂️ how is the vibe at the university and city 🌃 how are the students ? Are they friendly or in cliques just like in Australia 🇦🇺 we have 😨
