We have heard more and more about the resorts of Albania in the last year, direct flights and reviews have started to appear on the Internet. Albania has two seas: the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea, and the Adriatic Sea in Durres is less than an hour away from Tirana Airport. It takes longer to go to Ionian, but the size of Albania is quite small and if you want you can rent a car to see the mountains, the sea and other natural parts of the country. Albania without a travel agency or travel agent is a great idea, not only because I love independent travel, but also because the need to buy a package tour to Albania makes very little sense.
If you are looking for a holiday in Albania, you will still fly there through Tirana Airport. So why not see what the capital of Albania is. I was shocked by the history of this small nation and saw that I knew nothing at all about the history of Albania. Interestingly, I did not have to go to standard museums, some installations and important places can be seen in one day, walking the streets: the pyramid of Tirana, the installation Cloud, the square and the monument of Skanderbeg, the mosque, the cathedral of the Albanian Orthodox Church.
What to see in Tirana, if you have more than 1 day: the lift to Mount Dite (Daiti) and there on the mountain you can drink coffee or eat, enjoy the view of Tirana. At the foot of the mountain, where a regular city bus arrives, there is an impressive and at the same time spooky BunkArt Museum, located in a real bunker. During the communist regime, dictator Enver Hoxha kept the country completely closed and ready to attack enemies. His enemies were all, even ideologically close communist countries. Albania's bunkers can be seen everywhere and are reminiscent of the dictator's brutal 40 years in power.
Even after the fall of communism, Albanians experienced another shock: most residents invested in the financial pyramids, expecting a high percentage, and as a result all the money disappeared and mass riots broke out in the country, leading to a civil war in Albania.
Albania is now moving towards joining the EU and even in recent years has been open to tourists from almost all over the world, helping to develop tourism and services.
