I don't care who selected this music it's not funny and extremely insulting. Disrespectful to the families. The happy music needs to be taken off this. As someone who remembers the 70s and 80s and was there in Philadelphia at the time ...remembers. It's very hurtful. It's not ok.
The music sounds like it should be a low budget insurance plan commercial. Is Nancy Spungen wanting me to save on my medical copays while I’m shitfaced at 2 in the morning while trying to sweeten the deal with facts everyone knows? No? Because that’s the vibe I’m getting here.
I'm reading a book written by her mother now. It sounds like she was a bad seed. She was too much to handle and her parents were going to end their marriage because of the stress. Still, she was loved by them and were horrified of the name Nauseating Nancy. No matter how insane she was, she was somebody's baby girl.
By all accounts Sid's mum was a very interesting character, described by all as more of a friend than a mother. One undisputed fact about their relationship is that mum and friends used drugs in front of Sid from the earliest age. At some stage Sid joined in and was shooting speed + whatever with his mother as a regular lifestyle habit. That is how he grew up.
Jolene Myers I read that book and almost felt traumatized by reading it!a lot of people don't know her family was affluent and they really did slot to help their daughter
2.07..you mention Nancy's brother David..So why are you showing a photo of Iggy Pop in the left ,Bowie on the right & who I think is the famous groupie Lori Matrix ( think that's her name) that's the girl in the photo & not Nancy..she was a teenage lover of Jimi Page & Robert Plant ...so why did you show that photo???
These are all well-known facts lifted from the book 'I Don't Want to Live this Life'. The photo with Iggy Pop and Bowie in it doesn't feature Nancy at all (it's two other girls) and also what's with all the happy, jangly music? This sort of crap is the video equivalent of spam.
She is actually in the photo but the editor (sic) zoomed in too hard. She's just behind iggy and Bowie to the left if you search out the photo. Its kinda iconic. Unlike this silly "unknown" stuff everyone and their stuffed hamster knows.
@@mr.hitchens Thanks man, interesting stuff.....you're right about the Iggy/Bowie photo too. Whilst it's not in the Deborah Spungen book, it is posted online including its use as the image for the 'Iggy Pop (w/ David Bowie) - Funtime/Sister Midnight Live 1977' video on this very platform. Thanks again.
It's amazing that she died from just 1 shiv to the abdomen. I've been stabbed on many occasions, been sewn up by the Dr and life has gone on. She just had really bad luck.
I doubt she did. Although she did have some reported episodes of dissociation, she was never described as having hallucinations or delusions and didn't exhibit the verbal disorganization, known as "word salad", in her speech patterns which are common of schizophrenics. She probably had one or more personality disorders in addition to depressive issues. She could be a bit paranoid, but not in a hallucinatory kind of way. She's mainly described as having a poor self-concept and to have been needlessly combative, to become violently angry with no good cause, to be demanding and perpetually dissatisfied, have very poor self-control, to become antagonistic with no cause, unable to cope with frustration, romantically needy, and sometimes go into fugue states where she couldn't remember anything later. Her general profile really doesn't meet any with the characteristics of schizophrenia; she seems like a good candidate for borderline personality disorder and maybe some others. It's worth noting that the psychiatrist who speculated that she might be schizophrenic didn't share the diagnosis, if it was a formal one, with her parents, or make any moves to establish a course of treatment for her. Different professionals had different opinions on what was wrong with Nancy and none of them seem to have agreed. She fell through the cracks because no therapeutic approach that was tried seems to have worked and yet she wasn't deemed quite sick enough to be institutionalized. I'm sure she could have gotten better help today.
Fact 10 is less unknown than any of the other ”unknown” facts, as it is a repeat of fact 2. Besides, all those facts are what people generally know abt Nancy.
I learned this just recently while listening to an interview her mom gave, her mom pronounced it with a hard G like in green, not a soft G like in giant. Everyone says it incorrectly, including myself, til I heard her mom.
lynne johnson Yes, very misleading title. I'm from her area and know just about everything about her if you have any questions. I visit her grave when I can. Also her mother wrote a great book 'And I don't want to live this life' that a few of these facts were probably taken from.
The music killed this vid for me. I had to mute it in order to get through the end. Next time maybe something a little more punk/rock would be fitting instead of something RU-vid “makeup gurus” use while they apply makeup.
Nancy you were my little baby girl And i know all your feats Such a joy and kiss away your tears but now your gone theres only pain and nothing i can do if i cant live for you
I adore how they juxtapose the cheery music with morose facts about Punk Rock's most reviled sweetheart The photographs of her and sid are beautiful nonetheless🖤🖤 rip
#6 oxyen deprivation can show up later as a form a Aspergers syndrome. Boy these are some facts that nodody knew. Thank you for telling everyone.....derrrr
NS has the most often mispronounced surname of any public figure in human history. Her family name is pronounced "Spunghen," not "Spunjen." Virtually everyone gets it wrong.
That poor girl! Her mother (notice I didn't capitalize it) actually wrote a book called "I don't want to live this life" and its all about Nancy and how she was such an "evil child".. its the mother who should be shamed!!!! RIP Syd and Nancy.
Mona Maguire I've read that book as a teenager and it's fucking sad. Both Nancy and Sid had Parents that didn't really give a shit about them. RIP Sid and Nancy.
Hi Stephi.. I read the book too and from what I gathered.. Nancy had some kinda disease as a child that was never taken care of.......... I agree that both parents were CRAP and her mom (notice no capitalization) was a therapist! She speaks in "I don't want to live this life" that Nancy would scream till she turned blue.. May she RIP both she and her Prince... So young....................Sid and Nancy
From what I have read in that book so far the mother cared very much but had no clue how to handle nancy which is understandable no doctor could explain what was going on with her as a child and she got extremely violent and had outbursts of anger and would scream all the time as a baby. How do you handle that??? It must be exhausting and very draining. I think she did her best with nancy.
How are any of these facts unknown? They're all either well known pop-history, or taken directly from the book written by Nancy's mom, Deborah; And I Don't Want To Live This Life.
