There are many stories about the origin of the name Nandi Hills. During the Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Anandagiri meaning The Hill of Happiness. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hills resemble a sleeping bull.
ABOUT PALAR RIVER :
Palar is a river of southern India. It rises in the Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka state,[1] and flows 93 kilometres (58 mi) in Karnataka, 33 kilometres (21 mi) in Andhra Pradesh and 222 kilometres (138 mi) in Tamil Nadu before reaching its confluence into the Bay of Bengal at Vayalur about 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Chennai.[2] It flows as an underground river for a long distance only to emerge near Bethamangala town, from where, gathering water and speed, it flows eastward down the Deccan Plateau. The Towns of Bethamangala, Santhipuram, Kuppam, Ramanaickenpet, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Melpatti, Gudiyatham, Pallikonda, Anpoondi, Melmonavoor, Vellore, Katpadi, Melvisharam, Arcot, Ranipet, Walajapet, Kanchipuram, Walajabad, Chengalpattu, Kalpakkam, and Lattur are located on the banks of the Palar River. Of the seven tributaries, the chief tributary is the Cheyyar River

ನಂದಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಮೂಲದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಕಥೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಚೋಳರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಂದಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಆನಂದಗಿರಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಅಂದರೆ ಸಂತೋಷದ ಬೆಟ್ಟ. ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳು ಮಲಗುವ ಗೂಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹೋಲುವುದರಿಂದ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಹುಶಃ ನಂದಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳು ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಪಾಲಾರ್ ನದಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ:
ಪಾಲಾರ್ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಒಂದು ನದಿ. ಇದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ನಂದಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ,[1] ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ 93 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ (58 ಮೈಲಿ), ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ 33 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ (21 ಮೈಲಿ) ಮತ್ತು ತಮಿಳುನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ 222 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ (138 ಮೈಲಿ) ಹರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಚೆನ್ನೈನಿಂದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಕ್ಕೆ 75 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ (47 ಮೈಲಿ) ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವಯಲೂರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಗಾಳ ಕೊಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ.[2] ಇದು ಬೇತಮಂಗಲ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಬಳಿ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಲು ಬಹಳ ದೂರದವರೆಗೆ ಭೂಗತ ನದಿಯಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ನೀರು ಮತ್ತು ವೇಗವನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದು ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಭೂಮಿಯ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಪೂರ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇತಮಂಗಲ, ಶಾಂತಿಪುರಂ, ಕುಪ್ಪಂ, ರಾಮನಾಯ್ಕನ್‌ಪೇಟ್, ವಾಣಿಯಂಬಾಡಿ, ಅಂಬೂರ್, ಮೇಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿ, ಗುಡಿಯಾತಂ, ಪಳ್ಳಿಕೊಂಡ, ಅನ್ಪೂಂಡಿ, ಮೆಲ್ಮಣವೂರ್, ವೆಲ್ಲೂರು, ಕಟಪಾಡಿ, ಮೇಲ್ವಿಶಾರಂ, ಆರ್ಕಾಟ್, ರಾಣಿಪೇಟ್, ವಾಲಾಜಪೇಟ್, ಕಾಂಚೀಪುರಂ, ವಾಲಾಜಪಟ್ಟು, ಚೆಂಗಲ್ಪತ್ತೂರು, ಲಾಜಪಟ್ಟುಬಾದ್, ಚೆಂಗಲ್ಪತ್ತೂರ್ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಲಾರ್ ನದಿಯ ದಡ. ಏಳು ಉಪನದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಉಪನದಿ ಚೆಯ್ಯರ್ ನದಿ
