I suffered from mouth ulcers. A doctor told me it was an autoimmune disease and that it would eventually go away. I waited for 12 years, and almost every day during this time, I had multiple ulcers in my mouth. As soon as one healed, another would pop up. There was a time when I had 32 small ulcers on my tongue, making it the most painful week of my life. I felt emotionally and physically drained. Despite trying various medicines, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I began researching and discovered that wheat sensitivity could be the cause. I stopped eating wheat for a month, and the ulcers stopped appearing. This change significantly improved my quality of life.

Dr. Lee is so personable. There is no “superiority” when she engages with her patients. Very classy!

Everyone blaming people letting conditions go because of lack of healthcare, YALL…he went to a derm. They dismissed him. He had access to healthcare and they didn’t biopsy him. The conversation should more be on the fact that we can’t always trust doctors to do the right thing.

Necrobiosis Lipoidica can be caused by Autoimmune Diseases, like MS and he said he had this too, so there's the link, although it is most commonly associated with Diabetes, and it can be a warning sign of Diabetes Type 2 to develop later on in life, so it would be good for anyone that has NL to have regular blood-tests to check for Diabetes. It can also be associated with Thyroid Disease and Coeliac Disease, and other conditions too. Just a little extra info in case anyone finds this helpful xx

Getting such a diagnosis is GREATLY stress reducing. His and his wife's life suddenly became much, much more pleasant. That is worth a LOT!

My husband let a condition go on for the longest time ever. Always complained about pain but didn’t seek medical help even with me nagging him to do so until I had enough of the complaints and booked him into see a doctor. Turns out he had two frozen shoulders. Two cortisone shots later, completely fine. Seriously guys/ladies, don’t let the pain or a condition such as this guys and my husbands persist, go see a doctor. So glad this man got the answers he needed. He made me tear up a little. Such a nice man. Edit: thought I’d update my post. My husband has now had a total of 3 injections in both shoulders with physio. So while we thought the first lot worked, it didn’t. I feel so sorry and helpless for him. All because he took up golfing again. We will keep persevering. It maybe time for divine intervention. Look after yourselves everyone.

I’m a 26 year uterine cancer survivor because my doctor found it early enough to be surgically cured via a hysterectomy and no need for any chemo or radiation. I also had a small skin cancer successfully removed earlier this year. Don’t ever put off checking something out!

I was diagnosed with Granuloma Anulare. I had Crohn’s. Called the dermatologist office just to tell them. Just in case someone else has this same thing. They just said what Do you want us to do??? Totally just didn’t care. Mine was a Crohn’s rash. I wish I could have gotten to see Dr Lee. She is so great!!

I was interested to hear that quite a few comments had to do with dermatologists not seeming to take enough time to really look . My husband has a lot of moles especially on his back. I noticed that 3 or 4 of them were growing and had uneven edges. This can often be a sign of a melanoma. He went to a dermatologist to have his whole body checked before he retired. The doctor came in, glanced at his back and said everything was fine. He didn’t check the rest of his body or give any assurances. I’m going to send him to another dermatologist for a second opinion. You have to be proactive with your health. Needless to say, we won’t be going back to the first doctor.

He reminds me so much of my brother. Unfortunately, my brother lost his battle with cancer at 25. Leaving a 6 and 3 year old. Hope this family continues to have many years of fun, love and laughter.

I have the same thing on my shin I’ve been to my doctors for it and they had no idea. I am diabetic definitely showing the doctor the name so I can maybe finally get some help. Had mine for about 5 years now.

I got my first granuloma allunare on my ankle when I was 15 and I didn't have diabetes then either. My granulomas spread and then fade and then regrow in other areas. I developed diabetes when I was pregnant and it didn't go away even after drastic weight loss. It's amazing what the skin can tell us!

I am always amazed at how many times something is missed by doctors. We are all human, but it's a shame when the wrong diagnosis can snowball into something so critical. I saw a dermatologist several years ago and he was more interested in talking to the resident with him than he was to me. Definitely not the caliber of Dr. Lee.

Oh my gosh, I was in the same situation!! I’ve had 2 punch biopsies and nobody’s even read me the results! I’ve been brushed off so many times. Seeing this though and being on a drug for pre diabetes has made it disappear! I’m glad this guy found relief. I’m also glad I came across this video because researching more into this, it’s definitely what I have!

As a person who has had a “mystery rash” on my shoulders and back for months, it’s amazing how little many doctors and dermatologists know about rashes. They never seem to know what it is, they just throw different treatments and medications at the rash, hoping something works. Doctors need to do better.

I’ve had NL for almost 30 years. Was diagnosed almost 5 yrs before I became diabetic after the births of my 2 sons. Worst thing I ever did was use steroid cream prescribed by dermatologists. Made them super painful when touched. The spots aren’t really active now after all this time and mainly look like faded scars.

What’s sad, is that no other doctor chose to preform a simple biopsy to diagnose it, which caused extended stress and worry for the patient and his wife… Dr. Lee goes above and beyond in all cases to get answers.

I felt so sad at the start watching this poor man filling up, thinking he might die from cancer, not see his son grow up, or vica versa. He has been, in my opinion,watching from the U.K., been treated or rather not treated properly by his doctor and two dermatologists…the mental anguish they have caused him was so unnecessary. Dr PP acted quickly and got a diagnosis….I would have loved to learn if she is going to be able to do any surgery to help, though seeing his arm after that was cut about with oyster shells after a fall, maybe surgery isn’t an ideal solution. Wonder too if he needs to test again for diabetes…it may have been missed. Lastly, very sorry to hear he also has MS…a rotten deal all round. I had squamous cell on my neck like that. - Dermatologist #1 injected steroid and said it’ll clear up. - Dermatologist #2 spotted it immediately. The excision was huge. I’m grateful it was on my neck and not face. Moral of the story is to get a second opinion.

I love Dr. Lee. She’s an awesome doctor. But if NL is associated with diabetes and he is not diabetic, he really needs to get his pancreas checked for pancreatitis. Because if he has pancreatitis, it will turn into cancer if untreated. I am a widow for that reason.

The Dr says don't put off a doctor's visit for something that's worrying you...thing is, he DID visit doctors..even specialists and they did him no good.

Ignoring something won't make it go away. If it's something serious it's always better find out sooner than later.

I have been dismissed by so many doctors, having that moment of finding someone to listen is magical.

I had the exact same experience with a granuloma annulare. Luckily mine did go away and it was the correct diagnosis, but the dermatologist visit was truly less than one minute and still cost me over 100 for the consult.

NL is also associated with RA, rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disorder. MS, which he IS diagnosed with, is also an autoimmune disorder. So it’s not necessarily a warming sign of diabetes.

I think what makes this show enjoyable is Dr. Lee. She is a good soul, kind but honest. Able to treat patients like people but also willing to not hold back on that honesty

I had a similar issue saw 3 dems who told me nothing to worry about... 10 yrs later another derm and a biopsy turns out it was basal cell carcinoma. I had to get MOHS due to size and location. Seems that because it was on my ribs/side it was a rare occurrence not a typical location and not deemed a concern by those other Drs. I ended up with a 6 inch scar not pretty but it was benign and that was the most important.

Aw it's a shame we don't get to see the treatment recommendation or how he responds to it - NL seems to be pretty difficult to treat so it'd be interesting to see how he gets on.

He is a Bless Man that his Wife and Family are concerned about it because a lot of families just brush it off I'm glad he found out what it was and that can be taken care of hopefully

What would men do if they didn't have women nagging them to see a doctor. I had to make all my 2nd husbands appointments and go with him so he would see doctors and councelors. Glad he's going to Dr Lee. And he has a wonderful family

I had such a thing too, on my left shoulder and it kept growing and growing for about a month. Went to see the pharmacist, they didn’t want to touch it and sent me right to see the doctor, saw the doctor, who looked cluelessly irked and sent me to see a dermatologist. I went to the dermatology emergency and as soon as they saw it they told me « haha I see someone’s been around cats lately » it was a fungus transmitted by my friend’s kitten scratching me a few weeks back while playing. And there my nightmare ended. Thank you dermatologist

My hubby has pre diabetes too but he doesn’t have those’s things on his skin he loss a-lot of weight he was a size 40 in his waist now he’s a size 32!

I have one on each shin . I've had them for 15-20 years. I was told granuloma annulare. But I've never had any tests. I don't have insurance, so I haven't done anything. So glad they haven't grown.

I was wondering if it was connected to his MS? Bruises that appear out of no where is cause for concern! Dr. Lee, we need the treatment plan!! We know that you will get to the bottom of it! They've come to the right place!🤔

This is serious and should be studied. I had a patch just like this and was given the 1st diagnosis. Just ate from the produce section, mainly a veggie salad and a fruit salad. It cleared up super fast.

What about treatment? Did he have a glucose tolerance test to actually confirm he doesn’t have diabetes? People can have diabetes for decades and not even realize it until something catastrophic happens.

It's weird that NOWHERE in the video, discussion on this page or any comments was "Necrobiosis Lipoidica" explained. It's like saying Diabetes. It doesn't tell you what it is, what causes it, or more importantly the treatment if any. This video left me with more questions than answers.

I suppose I would have to see the entire show to hear what treatments were available for his diagnosis.

It is so stressful dealing with an unknown condition, and in general putting off hearing potential “bad news” not only robs a person of their peace of mind but can also deprive them of their best potential for a cure. Medical providers need to do a better job of educating the general public and their patients about seeking treatment as soon as something unusual shows up. But also, as patients, we need to be our own advocates and be persistent in seeking a solid diagnosis and appropriate care.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow his MS, which might be untreated, could have something to do with his condition, rare as it may be. MS can affect people in different ways, and compromise parts of the body that might be unexpected. I hope he can do follow-up examinations and tests where he is to determine what the next best steps are to prevent this condition and/or slow the spread of his MS.

It's so important to see your doctor, especially if you feel like something is going on, big or small. My husband waited until he was feeling horrible to go to the doctor, even gbough i begged hom daily to see the doc. he was diagnosed with AML 💔😭 (Leukemia) and 4 months later passed away. Get a check up every year, and do your lab work please.

Some ppl might call me a depressing or a ghoul or whatever but l love watching Dr Lee, she is so caring. I was particularly interested in this man's diagnosis as l have a similar condition strange how my GP did not tell me what it was yet they that l am type 2 diabetic for over 11 yrs now. I actually confirmed my leg blemish from my research on YT but then Dr Lee's programme double confirmed it. Such a good doctor for caring.

I have the same thing on both my shins. It started on my left leg with a small sunken spot and moved to my right leg 10 years later during my divorce. They have increased in size over the years to be approx. seven inches long and four inches wide and more. They are huge islands and I was pretty sure his was the same because both of my shins have the blood vessels showing like his did. It is a pre-diabetic warning and I have had the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes for over 30 years now. I was only told to eat chicken breasts as the remedy to my pre-diabetes when I was diagnosed on my left shin. I love Dr. Lee, but he needs more bloodwork to check his numbers and to figure out how to eat way more low carb or intermittent fast with low carb before he gets full blown diabetes like I did. Many years went by before I had a true diagnosis of Diabetes and NL with a punch test just like Dr. Lee did on his leg and arm. It's now affecting the blood flow to my ankles and feet get swollen if I don't exercise enough. Good luck, but don't follow my dismal lack of help over the years . My NL looks like I was burned and causes adults to stare rudely at my shins. Continue to seek a diet/eating plan that will keep you from having high and low blood sugars to stop any more progression. Also, my left leg area was injected with lots of some type of steroids at San Jose State U. student health clinic in the late 1980's which helped keep the left leg area smaller for many years. No other Dermatologist would inject the area on my right shin and it is over twice the size of the left shin.

When the first doctor diagnosed the lesion, they should have spent a few minutes explaining what it was, how it occurs and given him options for care and treatment. Docs are so wrapped up in seeing as many patients as possible that they don't bother to do the rest of their job, which is to educate their patients on their diagnosis!! Writing it down so that he could have referred to it at aayer time would have prevented this whole elisode and the anxiety that went with it.

Doctors need to be re-trained about diabetes. It’s a number. They ignore prediabetes which slowly damages the patient and is ignored until the threshold is hit.
