I'm not a homeowner but i would imagine that if I didn't pay my rent and was that far behind the first thing you should do is pay it before going away on vacation, that's a major slap in the face.

Thank you. I don't know why people do this type of stuff. I'm glad I'm a black homeowner that don't have to worry about this type of stuff. I had sisters who would try and get me to go on vacation with them but at the time nobody owned their own things.... Ludacris.

The landlord LET her get that far behind in rent, rather than following the correct procedure and evicting her long before she even considered taking a vacation..

There is proper protocol and she did try to pay him if he did not have a court order he could not remove anything even after court in ny state the landlords have to arrange for tenants to pick up any property left behind

I think a housing crash will happen because all those people who bought homes over asking price, although it was at a low interest rate, they are over their heads. They have no equity if the housing prices continue to go down, and if for whatever reason they cannot afford the house anymore and it goes into foreclosure because even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I think this will happen to a lot of people especially with the massive layoff predicted for the future and the cost of living rising at a high speed.

I suggest you offset your real estate and get into stocks, A recession as bad it can be, provides good buying opportunities in the markets if you’re careful and it can also create volatility giving great short time buy and sell opportunities too. it's incredible how the masses are thinking backwards, have no ability to reason or analyze anymore. Why would anyone pay $500,000 for a ghetto house worth $75,000??? but this happened in my NJ crone and drug infested city. People were fighting to buy run down, rat and roach infested houses for 5x what they were worth.I think there's something going on behind this that we don't know about yet

I'm just upset how nasty a person has to be to take a brand new stove and make it so nasty they have to throw it away. I'm a painter, and have a contract with the local HUD office. I paint a lot of the section 8 HUD houses. And let me tell you, those places are NASTY!! There's absolutely no reason just because you are poor that you have to live in absolute filth. I will never understand some people.

I do clean outs and prepare apartments for new tenants. I back up what you say. Not only section 8 houses though. The amount of hoarding, filth and destruction is beyond understanding.I really don't get how the tenants with kids living in these conditions don't have the kids taken away.

I do not blame this Landlord one bit. She took advantage and had the audacity to go on VACATION while owning so much rent? I live in London, I always pay my rent on the day that I get paid. All through the Pandemic, the Housing kept sending me emails with ways I could relax payments etc. No thanks, my home is my priority, things could easily get out of control.

@@firecontent6841 not the state I’m in. You gotta go to court the judge has to sign off. Anywhere from 30-60 days for the tenant to get out. Being two days late and then being evicted is super generous for the landlord

In Belgium, Spain and some other countries in Europe you can go on vacation and these gypsies from Romania that travel all over Europe begging see that your are not at home they just break in an start living in your house and nothing you can do but go through the courts to evict them. I guess you forgot that we were ordered to stay home when pandemic hit? I remember watching on the news owners of businesses were getting arrested for opening up their business. Don't blame the tenants because alot of them couldn't go to work because of the shut down instead blame your government officials. I don't understand why you landlords don't sue or take action against the government officials who started this mess?

I used to own 36 rental properties and now I have downsized to 22. I went through horrible tenants for the first 2 years of being in the business but now I am blessed to have really good tenants that I feel comfortable working with when they have hard times. The ones that refuse to make an effort are the ones I have no compassion for.

There's the difference. It's not always the tenant's fault. There are some really bad landlords out there that demand rent but won't even keep the home up and ask you to make repairs. Was this lady's priorities wrong? Absolutely. She would have paid for that mistake when the moratorium ended anyhow. But he was wrong to sell her stuff if this is found to be an illegal eviction.

As for rent increases, no matter where you live, you should know what is legally allowed and plan for it. "Sometimes we need a break"? Are you fr? Its a business arrangement not a charity, its all in a contract, everybody knows what's up. You take vacations after you save to cover your lost wages while you're gone, you don't expect your landlord to just suffer for YOU.

She was “vacation” while owing $15,000 back rent. We either have property ownership rights or we don’t. The landlord owns the property. I understand there are needed rules and regs to protect renters from abusive landlords. But, more info is needed for this situation, because on the face of it, the tenant was corrupt in her behavior.

It doesn't matter, he had no right to move her out or her items without an eviction notice issued by the court judge. She can get triple the cost of her items. I would sue him immediately even if I didn't pay my rent. I had a landlord that's lost her house in foreclosure. So I found out about it and did not continue paying her rent because she no longer owned the house and I didn't know if the new owner would kick me out or even the bank. So for 6 months I live there rent free. After the new owner brought the house. My old landlord decided to take me to court. When I told the judge she lost the house in foreclosure. The judge shook his head, and said, 'only in America could a man live somewhere for free", and he told her the case was dismissed boy was she mad. I went right back to the house because I wasn't evicted and lived there for another 3 months rent free.

I honestly believe they should create some type of forum where people can be added to a list of rental violations. In a year or two some property owner will forgive this debt and rent to her again. She will still owe the previous owner.

@@patricialynn6280 what are you ranting about? The law is the law, no matter how obnoxious your tenants are. If you don’t wanna follow the law then don’t become a landlord. If they don’t pay, file for eviction, aka the LEGAL way of evicting a non-paying tenant. I’m this case, the moratorium prohibited eviction for non-payment, so her eviction was illegal. And no, I don’t agree with the moratorium. It’s gone on for way too long and lousy tenants take advantage of it, but you still have to abide by it until it’s over, unfortunately.

I work on rent property also. The problem with renters is they feel they have rights but the landlord has none. They won't pay rent, steal stuff like appliances, damage property and feel they did nothing wrong. When the renters feathers get ruffled then all of a sudden cops and everyone else need to get involved.

Then you have landlords who consistently take renters money and do absolutely nothing for their tenants as well .....I can say this bcoz I've been on both sides of the fence and not all renters are the same!! There are plenty of people who pay their rent and pay it early and on time as well and still get screwed over by landlords.....They want their rent to pay their mortgage, but refuse to fix anything, they lie about work being done, etc ....I myself had no issues when I shared an apartment back in college, but once I tried it as an adult after I graduated? Wasn't for me! To pay someone 1600 monthly+ utilities, alarm bill, water bill, and other misc and my basement flooded due to their negligence and I HAD to get a company to come out and do the work to pump the water from my basement? And everything I had down there was ruined too? Televisions, carpet, sofas, ottoman etc??? They wound up paying me a butt load of money when all they had to do was the right thing!!! So there are awful landlords in existence just as there are awful tenants

I know a lady like this but worse… she had been kicked out of apartments all her life because she doesn’t pay rent… when her son was old enough she used his name to rent out a mobile home… the manager told his girlfriend(my friend) that her boyfriends mom hasn’t been paying rent… my friend and her boyfriend had been giving his mom half the rent for all that time and she had been keeping it and ruining his reputation. This really sucks honestly for the owners honestly because I believe some of them actually had to work really hard to afford to own extra properties and to not be able to make money off of them is just ridiculous.

All of the people playing Pandemic roulette with the landlords and electric companies while at the same time refusing to work are going to be in for a big surprise soon. NONETHELESS, giving your personal opinion instead of doing your job is equally wrong. A report or an arrest should have taken place and not a phone conversation about how he feels about the Pandemic squatters.

You can play that game all day but the reality is she got rent assistance as hundreds of thousands did, pocketed it and left the landlord holding the bag. I paid my deadbeat tenant’s rent for a year while they lied about being impacted by the pandemic. They were still working. Meanwhile I had to cover the mortgage while being in treatment for a cancer recurrence, forcing me to have to continue working full time to avoid foreclosure. A vacation would’ve been lovely. Instead I had to evict the deadbeats then sue them for back rent and damages to my property. I won and am still collecting via garnishment.

This is exactly why I stopped the home buying process in May 2020. I was gonna buy a multifamily property then the moratorium came out and I shut all that down. I did not want to get stuck with tenants who legally didn’t have to pay. Unfortunate for the landlords who previously had tenants and they decided to take advantage smh

We had one tenant in who tried that ish, but luckily the moratorium ended. We just cut our small losses and had another paying(on time payments) tenant moved in. We verified income, criminal records, and had them take out rental insurance (Texas) . Luckily we didn't lose our property or too much in revenue that wasn't easier recouped. We're still a tad behind on losses but we make enough in profits that we weren't concerned. However, we still were thoughtful enough to raise house rent above market price, unlike Many landlords . We try to be fair at the same time. But you have to pay, where u stay! Simple. 🤷‍♂️

Guy I know has a job making $1800 per month, but making about $4000-$6500 per month on the side TAX FREE about 10 hours or less worth of work.. . He still refused to pay his mortgage for about 14 months. So yeah, if you let people they will abuse the system.. :)

Not all the time I knew a landlord who would get eviction notices even when people paid. She had the city in her pocket. She'd hike rent up, when she died they named a school off that crook, I say crook because she'd use old pictures to make them pay for repairs that wasn't needed.

I just had one of tenants who thankfully left. Both she and her son destroyed my unit. She allowed her dog to relieve herself in the home. She caused a rat and roach infestation. She also owes me 10000 . I have a hearing set up for August. I am traumatized by what she did because she too advantage of my kindness.

Well, she filed a lawsuit it says at the end. She WILL win and the landlord will not only end up paying WAYYYY more back to his former tenant, he's now in arrears for legal fees of both parties. This ended up costing him nearly triple of what she owed him.

You think her stuff was worth more than the $15,000 she owed him? She is going through legal aide which is free so there are no lawyer fees to sue for. That is why he said he did not care if she sued him because she owed him way more than her stuff was worth. They will just deduct her belongings value off the back owed rent. Not saying he was right to get rid of her stuff, he should have put it in storage but I imagine he was pissed she was off on vacation while having not paid rent in 1 1/2 yrs and just was not feeling it.

@@EricV89 She is going to sue for the value of her stuff of a few thousand dollars plus fees. He is going to counter sue for $15,000 back owed rent plus fees. The judge is going to side with them both, he owes her for her suff plus fees and she owes him for rent plus fees. Now based on all these judge shows the judge deducts the lesser judgement from the higher judgement leaving a final judgement for the one still owed money. In this case the landlord as there is no way she had $15,000 in belongings.

@@MA-mh1vs it’s very possible she had more than $15,000 in belongings which is why most rental insurances start at $20,000. $15,000 is not a lot to furnish an apartment, especially if there was more than one bedroom. NY is a tenant-friendly state. Even if the tenant is at fault, if the landlord broke the law, didn’t send the Notice to Quit, and go through the courts for a proper eviction, he will 100% be at fault and have to pay her. Problem is, in NY evictions can take up to a year. Crappy situation for the landlord

If he tossed out a10yr old couch she does not get to sue him for the cost of a brand new couch, she gets to sue him for what her 10yr old couch was worth. This goes for everything she had, so there is no way she had anywhere near $15,000 in 'used' belongings.

Just pay someone to throw their ish out on the street and change the locks. Your chances of getting arrested are slim to none because no one saw you throw their ish out and change the locks. The tenant could sue you but they will not get any money from you because the amount they owe you in back rent far exceeds whatever damages they incurred by being forced out. Sometimes you have to work with the law but around the law to prevent going broke from non-paying tenants. The law says that you the landlord cannot evict a tenant because of covid relief. The law does NOT state that someone else cannot evict your tenant. Perhaps the next time your tenant takes a vacation you can make it a permanent vacation from your rental on to another rental because the truth is the tenant has zero intentions of ever paying you and when they lift the eviction ban people like that will just move to another rental and never pay you.

All he did was change the locks and allowed them their property in the garage. My grandpa was respectful and got 60 days in county. This guy gave away her things although & did illegal eviction. The tenant did have to pay my grandpa $40k back rent but the tenant has no money so it was really was a waste.

Everyone is condemning her "going on vacation" but what if all she did was go to a relative's home for a few days. I don't think she went to a fancy resort. STEALING a tenants belongings is stealing, grand larceny, and ILLEGAL in all 50 states. What the landlord should have done is go to court, get an eviction order and had that posted to the door when she returned. I would have thrown her out too and came up with a story like she turned in the keys. The cops are busy with real crimes and do not care about nonsensical tenant landlord disputes.

Well that exactly what he did.. but rather she owe him or not.. & how much landlord laws were invented for a reason.. he will have to be fined or something..can't go around without a court order putting people belongings out for other people to steal & changing locks.. to me that was plain dirty! At least he could have did was put her stuff in a storage & tell her she gets it back when she pay the rent she owes.. she probably would have came up with the money then.

@@bevhoney-b2184 You are overvaluing the concept of landlord laws (which everyone already knows) over the enforcement of landlord laws. By overvaluing something already known you totally block your ability to grasp that courts have a huge backlog of eviction cases and police are tasked with prioritizing violent crimes as priority over non-violent illegal evictions. If the landlord would have put her stuff in storage he is establishing liability for an illegal eviction. By the landlord coming up with a reasonable lie it is the landlord's word versus the tenant's word because the landlord is denying an illegal eviction took place but rather the tenant surrendered the apartment.

The officer could have just asked to see her "keys" if she still has them shes telling the truth, if she doesn't, the landlord is because he claimed she surrendered the keys when she voluntarily moved out.

@@aceydishy9338 Even if he did, which he did, the keys if she had them would prove she didn't surrender the keys and voluntarily move out but had the keys and went on vacation to come back to all her stuff gone and the locks changed, at least if she has the old keys she can prove the landlord lied when he said she handed those keys over and left on her own.

Why don't the tenants realize that paying rent should be their priority? This is so unethical that they went for vacation instead of paying rent. Because of people like these Landlord services are introduced which handles all things related to the landlord and tenant in a smoother and professional manner. When I got trapped in a similar situation where my tenant started ignoring my reminder calls for rent and didn't respond to the house bell, I contacted Landlord Assist. They handled everything really well. They weren't abusive or voilent to the tenant but still sorted the whole situation out. Definitely going for their advise in future too.

That was not her house nor her belongings. This may have been the landlords only or other source of income, that she "proudly " took advantage of. Great she's out. It don't matter if you count to sue her you're supposed to abide by the eviction laws you have to go through the courts to evict her you cannot do it on your own if you put her stuff out in the streets or gave it away you're going to be made to pay for it regardless of how much rent she owes you just because you evicted her illegally

A judge will probably take the lost items value out of the amount she owes. But I don’t think that’s fair. Why would she go on vacation when she should have been getting a job, or giving him the keys when she left. Sounds like a setup so she can try to get new stuff to me.

My siblings and I inherited a 4-family house when my dad passed. None of us want to deal with the hassle of dealing with tenants. The problem is that our mom lives in one of the apts and doesn’t want to move, so we can sell it. Our sister lives in another apt, but she’s not a consideration because she’ll get a cut of the sale if we sold the property, so she can buy a place. It’s just our mom holding us up. Rent from the two paying apartments basically covers expenses: water, taxes, heating, insurance, maintenance, etc. Again, no one makes money on this and it’s more of a massive headache than anything else. We all have full time jobs of our own and have to pay for our own housing. Ignorant people seem to think landlords make money from rentals, but most do not. We now have a tenant who hasn’t paid rent in four months after his lease expired and he’s basically squatting. Our attorney has written to him and served notice. We do NOT make money on this property. It’s terrible that the process seems to be so unfair and people can basically live for free with little recourse. It’s just not worth renting out your property to irresponsible, fraudulent tenants these days. I just hope we get him out sooner rather than later and we can convince our mom to move in with one of us. Rental properties are just not worth the constant hassle.

The landlord must've be getting Rent Relief for her. Because why would you let anyone go a year without paying rent. Something doesn't smell right. More than likely, the program stopped paying her rent, and she didn't pick up where they lefted off.

That law was ruled to be Illegal. The govt had No right to take private property owners houses and force them to house them for free. That would beike ordering you to give me keys to your SUV or car then forcing you to pay while I drive your vehicle for 1to 3 years..
