I’ve got one from the last release in my display cabinet - fantastic memories of this kit. My dad made my original in 1971 when I was ill with pneumonia and managed to make the wheels on the Land Rover go round, although they squeaked a bit. When my GP visited for my check up (shows what a different time it was!) he pushed it around my bedside table and told me it needed oiling and an MOT! Dr Eric Taylor of Virginia Water. Total legend.

I built this kit in the 70s, 80s, 90s and managed to find one in the naughties. Loved this kit. Still have several RAF Ground force crew, one dog and a land rover. Had a deal going on with my local model shop owner, who used the Land rovers in diorama displays but didn't need the missiles or launchers, until he closed down. The old airfix kit was a representation of a full team needed to set up and operate a Bloodhound and maintain security, hence the dog.

One of the first kits I made by myself. To make it 'accurate' takes a lot of work, but it's so much fun, just difficult enough to make the moving parts work, and it was also in the Hercules kit, so I had two.

Thanks for the out of box review. The parts do look in good nick. Since the SRN-1 hovercraft kit still hasn't reached the shores of Oz I guess there will be equally long wait for this to appear in our stores. Ordering from Airfix themselves is just too expensive in terms of postage. Looking forward to building the kit again though.

I made this in the 1970s. Great kit and all the extras: landrover and figures (especially the dog) plus the inclusion of both the launcher and the trailer make it very worthwhile and fun. Came in white plastic back then.

I got the Hercules when it was released in the US in 75 or 76 when it came under the MPC range; it had US Coast Guard markings, extra figures and bonus decals -- for a B-25 and I think an F-84! It's still in my stash; painted the inside grey but that's as far as I got with it.

Never had this as a separate kit, but it came as part of a Hercules C130 kit Airfix released in the 1970's. The Hercules was built to a good standard, brown & beige cammo with a black underside if I recollect, but I made a total dogs breakfast of the bloodhound.....

The signal gantry was also in most Anderson series, in most episodes, too. Building copies of the many jet plane designs is fun, some times it's easy to get a Monogram 1/48th Starfighter, then it's much harder to find which Hustler kit provided the parts...

Given the age of this kit it's quite impressive even if a bit simplistic. But it is a significant weapon in the UK's Cold War arsenal and I had no idea it was in service for so many years. It'd be interesting if Airfix or ICM comes up with a new one in 1/35th scale.

The back end was attached to the launcher by shear bolts, the front end supported on movable rests, when it was fired it produced enough thrust to shear the bolts and off it went, that happened in less time than it took you to read this. @@simongee8928

Got one on evil Bay a few years ago for about $10 USD, mainly for the Land Rover. Looks like a pretty straightforward kit. No clear parts for the windshield though. Would use 96 RAF Blue Grey instead. You forgot the 1/48 Land Rover Snatch and WMIK Airfix released several years back with the Operation Herrick series.

My dad was an Armourer and he spent some time on the bloodhound system at RAF North Luffenham and RAF Barkston Heath, two units that were close to my home, but also bases that I at various times went to as an RAF Airframe Mechanic, although by the time I was in the airforce North Luffenham was still open but not operationally, I went their ten-pin bowling, but Barkston Heath was a practice land-away base for trainee pilots from RAF Cranwell, my first posting after trade training, as ground-crew we went there to do see-ins/off and all the other line related stuff, however, the Bloodhound’s were long gone by then but the missile ready compounds were still there and the baseplate mounting as well. Sorry, I digressed, since taking model making back up since being forced to retire early I decided I want to make a model of every aircraft or piece of equipment that my grandfather, father, myself and my son ever worked on, most models were easy to procure except the Rapier missile system and the mighty Bloodhound, so many many thanks for bringing this re-release to my attention, good old Airfix saves the day, I just need a kit of the Rapier system, if anyone has any knowledge of a manufacturer and/or item identification number I would really really appreciate some information, thanks. The only other one I need is the Jet Provost T5A or a T5 that I can modify but I have sourced it from various sellers and should not be an issue getting. Thanks again for sharing this post with us all. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇦🇮🇱

I missed this one the last time it was reissued. I'm definitely going to get one this time! The tooling for this kit is a year older than I am . . . . Now, if only Airfix will consider reissuing their 1/76 scale Soviet SAM 2. 228th like.

Unfortunately, Airfix can't, the mould was irrevocably damaged a while ago, which is why it has never been reissued. It is one of the few moulds Aifix have lost, the SS France being one of the others. I think that some of the 1/32nd car moulds were damaged in France when Heller had them. If so a shame as I would like to see the Maxi again. They are expensive when you find them .

That would make a fine kit, agreed. I guess the best idea for now would be to scratch build one using this kit as a starting point if you are retired and have fond memories of building the original kit, or write the code to 3D Print one (no doubt in 1/72nd scale) if you are young. I'd also like to see Airfix reissue their Soviet SAM 2 kit in 1/76 scale. I realize there are new kits of this subject, but they are 1/72nd.

Been waiting all year and now my LHS is closing down in a couple of weeks 😢😢 Not sure they will be able to get one for me in time. I've heard the Landie is pretty good. I hope to do a Bloodhound as deployed in Cypress by 112 squadron as a gate guardian. With regard to figures, the Recovery Vehicle set has a dispatch Rider on a motorbike and a couple of other figures, and the Rescue set with ambulance and fire tender have a few figures with at least one in a hazsuit. I'd have to go check the stash to see how many figures come with each set. Also some of the vehicles have a few figures of not that brill quality; the Bren Carrier and the Bofors come with crews.
