This is definitely a video to save. Perspective is one of those things where the exercises make sense but I never actually know how to use it when drawing. This video is amazing because of actually seeing it in action. Keep up the amazing work!

What I love about perspective is even though you said you can’t see the other two tires. If this was a formula 1 car you would which is why consistency is important

You really have a gift of great tutoring! Im not much in creature design nor vehicles, but your vids are so greatly narrated that I do enjoy em so much! Thank you! If I can point something, I miss you mentioning how to construct perfect halves aka measuring middle and each side section by using crossing diagonal construction lines otherwise still perfect tutorial!! Cheers, man!👍

Thanks Bobby for the perspective exercise , this might be a dumb question, with perspective how /can is it used for creatures or organic concepts, unless there is a a landscape scene? If that makes sense. Love ya brother. Thanks again!
@bobbyrebholz2183
@bobbyrebholz2183 6 месяцев назад
Even in organics, things have to line up for example, if you have a group of elephants standing randomly, the farthest one back is going into perspective in the distance which is why it's smaller.
@bryanterborg3665
@bryanterborg3665 6 месяцев назад
@@bobbyrebholz2183 I think maybe I didn’t ask that right. I ment if it’s an individual creature, like what you do as a concept artist. Like a portrait that has foreshortening..
@gerdbertling643

if I may suggest s.th.: different figures, people in a surrounding (city, landscape) from above or other difficult perspectives. Thanks

Not that I'm an expert, but the only thing I would add to the advice here is a quick reminder of how to mirror a distance onto the other side of the centerline. Here you eyeballed the width of the far half of the car and it looked correct because you know how it should look, but I as a beginner always do the X trick to find where stuff should be on the other side of the centerline.
@bobbyrebholz2183

Thanks for mentioning that. I will cover that aspect more in-depth next time.

Hi Bobby. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). GREAT vid on perspective! Besides drawing and painting at my home studio, I also draw & paint in plein air & do urban sketching because I love being outside and making art from real life too. This video was perfect to understand much better how to train my brain to avoid perspective mistakes when drawing free hand. I will be putting it into use in my next sketching walk. One additional thing... I see many artists and urban Sketchers giving sort of a wide angle view to their drawings (buildings, cars, people, etc. like seen from a camera with a wide angle lens and everything curving inside it) and I don't know if you could do a video on something like that. I just find really hard sometimes to see the perspective properly when curving everything within the composition, specially with organic subjects (animals, people...). I hope I explained this correctly. In any case... great tutorial and thank you very much for "teaching" us so well (you do explain things very very clearly and easy to comprehend). Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

Hi I do have a question, I started my drawing journey during the lockdowns because it was something I have always wanted to do. I come from a 3D modeling (organic/hard surface background) recently when I came across your channel I found that I have a propensity and natural skill for creatures and monsters which I grew up on the older Godzilla movies etc. I figured this out after months upon months of line drills and trying to learn human anatomy which was not fun for me to say the least. But then after watching your videos I tried a creature something simply not overly complex and bam there is was came without even thinking. Do you suggest I start learning traditional animal anatomy which fascinates me, to better convey structure and form and have any drawings I create make sense. The second part your classes you teach I am no where near the level of the stuff I seen coming out of your class I still feel very noobish I finally broke that stupid perfectionist mind block and advanced my drawing a little. Would I be able to work through it with minimal basic understanding of drawing principles?

Bone and muscular structure are crucial. Go on Google and look up animal muscle and bone anatomy. Draw the skeletal and muscular structures. When you start drawing creatures with skin, fur, scales etc, you have to know what the underlying shapes are so the body looks believable.
