Upgrading your suspension is a simple and affordable way to make your bike faster. By upgrading your suspension, you'll improve your handling and speed, making your bike more responsive and fun to ride. If you're ready to boost your bike's performance, then this upgrade is for you!
Stock suspension works well for road riding but as your skills improve or if you ride on the track then you can ride faster and more safely with an improved suspension system. One of the easiest ways to upgrade is to follow the same path as KTM and fit the WP Apex suspension, and in this video I show how easy it is to replace stock rear suspension with Apex - a better system with the added benefit of being able to adjust rebound as well as compression so that you can dial in the bike to suit you and your riding style.
This video applies to the KTM small Dukes, RC and the Husqvarna 125, 250 and 401
Torque: Top and bottom bolts 51Nm, loctite 243
Rear shock adjustments: Turn fully right until the screw stops - turn back to the left to the first click then turn to the left:
Sport: 10 clicks
Standard: 15 clicks
Comfort: 20 clicks

Now, I’m just a normal guy who likes working on bikes; I’m not a qualified mechanic but I’ve spent a lot of time working on bikes and most of the servicing you see is directly from the manufacturer workshop manuals. I like to show you interesting things you can do and that I’ve done with my bikes, but I can’t promise you that anything I show you will work on your bike as not everything is always exactly the same. Be careful not to harm yourself, anyone else or your bike and always be aware that if you have a warranty then changing or working on your bike can invalidate it - they do love an excuse not to have to pay out. If you have any doubt then talk to a qualified mechanic or engineer and make up your own mind.

Hi! Excellent video. Any idea if the new adventure 390 has softer monoshocks then duke 390 of 2019, maybe second gen. I wanted a more comfortable ride on roads.
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Месяц назад
I would imagine that the Adventure has a longer rear shock which would be an issue. This shock can be rebuilt so it would be possible to change the spring.

This is very helpful for me as Motor Bikes are wildly expensive 🫰 here and i was thinking of upgrading the forks and rear suspension instead of spending like extra $5K usd to upgrade to 390s and it's a bit much for me as well as i have been riding 150s

Hello I just recently came across your videos and they’ve been incredibly helpful! I wanted to ask if you’d have any recommendations on getting my 2022 390 duke to pop wheelies , I know the new models can out of the dealer but mine has a slightly smaller displacement, if there’s any modifications you can recommend it’d be greatly appreciated!
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius День назад
Using power to make a wheelie is not the best or safest way to do it, so I recommend this video to show you the correct way to do it. Good luck and be brave! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8ZrRSG6lopA.htmlsi=z3YHsSwkrDPflPUV

Have you tried installing the shock upside down? I have a feeling it may fit if it does then you dont have to grind the rib on old gen models.
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 4 дня назад
Doesn't fit, it is an easy job to file our grind out the web on that side so that you can access it with a screwdriver.

Sir does this fit to a 2013 1st gen model?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
I can't gaurantee that it does. Gen1 and Gen2 use different shocks. I think it will fit, but as I've not tested it, I can't guarantee.

Hello instead of lifting the bike and let the rear hang can I just remove the rear wheel?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 23 дня назад
You will need to lift the bike in order to remove the back wheel. To remove this there can be no weight on the suspension.

How many miles does your bike have? I want to get the Duke 390 2024 and I have a 2020 390 Adventure which is not as fun to ride as regular Duke.
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
My bike is mostly used for short trips so it's only about 10k. Really depends what you want from a bike. 2024 Duke looks interesting, adventure is a different beast for a different purpose.

Hi David, I've just brought a duke 390, what mods do you recommend just to make it run better etc. I'm 40 so the face down ass you break neck speeds are not what I'm after, just happy with it sitting at the speed limit comfortably
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
Hi, ah just a youngster then! To be honest, the stock bike sits just fine at the speed limit. I've been doing some regular runs along the motorway recently so I'm running a 42 on the rear which just drops the revs a bit at 70 and helps my fuel economy since that is where my setup starts to dump fuel into the engine. Biggest mistake people make is to try and plod along in low revs - engine was not designed for that, so while you can alter the fuelling to make it better, best course is just not to do it - typically if I'm below 4k revs it's because I'm waiting at a junction. But the FuelX Lite will improve low speed running for most people because it's a bit over lean because of emissions. Otherwise mods are mostly personal preference on sound levels etc.

I recommend swapping the oem spark plug for iridium, sorted out the frequent stalling issue on my 390 ADV. The copper electrode on the OEM plug had mostly gone by 9k miles and the gap was 1.4mm!

@@MotoMirius No worries mate, funnily enough my duke service light come on so itll be handy to watch that before hand haha
@TightHoleLover
Sir does this fit with 2019 duke 390?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
Yes, your Duke is the same as the one you saw it fitted to in the video, which is a 2017. You will need to slightly modify the ribs on your swinging arm mount as I showed in the video - you can use a file to do this if you don't have anything else. You could get away with a small bent screwdriver which you can buy but easier just to make a small adjustment.
@TightHoleLover
@@MotoMiriushi sir I didn't notice this reply 😅 till now yeah it fits perfectly and also I need to do something about that screw . Thank you .

Hey what are some mods i can do to my ktm duke 125 to get more power, i decided nkt to go whit difrent sprocket because it is not big difrence but i will be getting pigiback and air filter what shoud i do more, thanks in advance
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
It's difficult to generate more power with the 125 because it is such a small engine - even a 50% power increase doesn't make a huge difference in the real world. The best recommendation I can give is to invest into getting the larger engine version unless you cannot do that because you are age restricted. The most effective difference is the one you don't want to do which is to put a larger sprocket on the back - this helps to overcome the lack of torque made by the small engine - so this would be the starting point.

@@MotoMirius well i cant go biger for 2 years bc of the law but i consider buying some bike bigger in a year so dont know is it worth it
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
It is a really difficult position to be in. I wouldn't spend too much money on the bike because the performance upgrades won't do a lot for the money - but consider the bigger rear sprocket. Invest instead in becoming a better rider so you can maximise what you can get out of the bike and so you can breeze through the tests once you are old enough@@dujeklanac1639

@@MotoMirius hey i decided to do all mods, so i am.buying: full sistem exaughst, air filter, pigyback acu, biger sprocket and new cahain but how mutch bigger sprocket do i put? Original one is 45t and i was looking at 48, what do you think whitch one to put and what chain do i need? And are ghere any more mods to do? Thanks buddy you alwais answer
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 6 месяцев назад
I would do the mods then see if you want a bigger sprocket. If you do then I'd suggest trying a 48. You will need a longer chain - likely 114-116 links but typically the next size up if often 120 and you just remove the links you don't need. @@dujeklanac1639

I don't remember the last time I saw a road bike that didn't come from the factory with a progressive spring.
