"That's right." is what you want an employer to say during an interview or negotiation. It's better than "yes". This is part of my interview with negotiation expert Chris Voss. It simply comes down to get into the mindset of the hiring manager and saying out loud what they want. "You're looking for someone who cares more about being part of the company's overall mission here than just a paycheck." Or, "Maybe you've hired people in the past who didn't work out or left after a few years, and you want to make sure you hire someone this time who's here for the long term." Or, "Maybe you've had concerns about hiring a PhD who's overqualified but also lacks experience, and you want to make sure a PhD you hire for this role can do the job properly." Interviewing and negotiating is more than just talking about your skills. It's about strategically showing the employer that you're committed to the company's mission longterm, understand what they're looking for in the role at hand, and are right cultural fit.
