Thats a cool tip - was wanting to use it for night time sailing interviews, was concerned about when there is 0 lighting from other videos but this seems to do the trick

Nice way more sensitive to ir than other digital night vision devices just wondering when sionyx is going to add direct sensor readout to EVF so one can truly take advantage of the higher iso sensor the people at sionyx have hinted at this before just curious if firmware update is coming but for now it is still leaps and bounds better than others love the videos and the idea of using the sionyx for astro photography

Not sure the development path they are taking but I know I’d love a red mode which should be easily done via firmware (so my night vision isn’t shot when looking through the viewfinder) and a longer than 1.5 second exposure time for the photos (even 10-30 seconds would be legendary combined with the timelapse mode - although long time fans of my channel will know 300seconds / 5minutes is where the magic is at).

How did you attach your illuminator to the Sionyx, as pictured in your accompanied promo photo? Tyi

I've ended up 3D printing a mount (design files available here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4683306) which you can get printed by any nearby printshop for likely $2-5 I'm working to design a more robust mount but at the moment I'm looking for a 950nm illuminator and design the mount to accept either or both.

Pick up a 1064 IR light or laser and nobody will be able to see you, even gen3+ pvs31s can’t see 1064 but the Aurora is amazing at that wavelength.

Do you have any suggested brands/models? This one was inexpensive to try out which is its appeal, but I’d be willing to shell out a bit more for a higher NM Illuminator to give it a go as well, would make for a cool comparison video.

If I owned the SiOnyx IR Light I would compare them. The Illuminator kit is also “5w” but is 940nm vs. 850nm and it looks like it has a substantially larger optics more beam zoom range and runs off two 18650 batteries 🔋 vs. A single AA battery. So there is a difference but how much in a practical use case? Up for debate.

If you use the 940nm it won't easily be seen by the naked eye and PVS -14s won't see the light at all.

This is true, however 940nm are pricier lights and I have yet found the need to get one myself compared to these small lights which are far more afforable.

@@EmberSkyMedia 940 is not better then the 840nm The 940 leaves tracemarks when people walk not very bright as the 840nm And is more clear

@@adhd_with_pennies4867 940nm tends to require more output from the light than 840nm for the same "illumination" on camera because you are getting closer to 1100nm where silicon is opaque and the camera can no longer see.

Do you think the camera will be able to pick up license plates from a moving car?

Depends on a lot of factors such as angle, distance away and speed of the car. Also depends on the make of the licenceplate at night as the Night Mode plays with colours and that could wash out the numbers (especially if they are red) against a white background of the plate.

Did some quick tests here, at night I would say “no” 90% of the time with night-mode, especially if they have license plate lights. Day mode works pretty well.
