Mitch did stay out of his way. I did feel a few times like Marcus Miller was sharing some great insights and after a few minutes of explanation, Mitch would say only "right" and not even with a capital R. An example is at 38:36, when after the very interesting, heartfelt definitions of great artist and great producer Mitch's response didn't feel like he heard that answer. I've been watching Mitch for over a decade making these videos so I'm a fan regardless.

THIS!! I came to comment this exact same thing. Such an amazing interview, and only because he just let Marcus go and get all the way through his thought. Especially in the development of Marcus’ tone and playing development. You can edit after if things get long winded. I wasn’t subbed before, but I am now.

Math you, well said! Loved your commented! Marcus Miller seems to be one of those rare artists--and human beings in general-who has a strong sense of who he is and he inspires others because of that. He's very poised and has, as I perceive anyway, an innate sense of how to relate to others and how to make those around him better at what they do. He interviews others well also--those aforementioned attributes have made him a natural at interacting with others. We need 10 million more just like him! 😃 Thank you and God bless you and all!

Back in 1977 in Boston I went to see Tower & Power at the Orpheum Theatre. Lenny White had a quartet as a warm-up band. Really getting more than your money’s worth in those times. There was a young bassist playing in White’s band. Hard to take your eyes off him he was already that good. Years later somehow I was drawn back to that night only to learn it was none other than Marcus Miller. Followed him ever since. He never steered you wrong. Even in college we’d go to the town record store in Amherst, Mass, buying the latest fusion-type record and my friends and I would immediately look for his name in the credits. He was early 20’s and ubiquitous in the music scene of the time. Just a remarkable talent.

Marcus Miller. DAYUM. He was the first cat I looked to in the beginning of the 90’s when I wanted to SERIOUSLY learn bass guitar. Absolutely important interview and kudos to Mitch for making it happen. Marcus Miller is my all time favorite MUSICOLOGIST ever since I heard him on the pivotal " Never Too Much " by Luther Vandross and " Star People " by Miles Davis. I have listened extensively to Mr. Miller over the years as evidenced in my collection of the projects that he has been involved in especially such notables as Bernard Wright, Lenny White, The Brecker Brothers, Dave Valentin, George Benson, Grover Washington, Kevin Eubanks, Lonnie Liston Smith, Jamaica Boys, Tom Browne, Bob James, Joe Sample amongst many others. Ultimately and without a doubt, attending a Marcus Miller live performance is the ESSENCE.
