This video (and also many of your others) is so full of crucial information! Interesting that the snow is enough humidity for them and doesn't rob them of their energy. I assume that one of the reasons, why this works so well for you is the generational continuity of your herd, so they are perfectly adapted and also taught by their mothers (as you mention). We had 50 one year old steers and when the first snow fell, they lost condition after 3 days. We tried a few things and it seemed that they forgot the way to the creek (who knows why - maybe because of the snow) and they didn’t get enough water from the snow. We also just had started to feed hay which may have caused that. (Funnny sidenote; the veterinarian said that the grass should have no nutritional value… )Anyway - what your video beautifully shows is that with experience and fine tuning winter grazing can work. What always worries me much more are humid springs with our very soft loam, when cattle are pugging an area in a few minutes.

Amazing how cattle can know where the best feed is burried under the snow!

They really do! I don't know if they smell it or what.

Just proves that cattle don’t need a barn to stand in and eat a bunch of hand fed hay and be babied. Make them work for you, not work for them. Whether you make hay or buy it, it cost money. Thanks for sharing

I had a steer that would stick his tounge out every time I walked by. I started giving his tounge a gentle little tug when he stuck it out. He kept coming back for more, made a little game out of it.
