We just celebrated my mother's 97th birthday yesterday. I whole-heartedly agree. People deteriorate when they don't feel cared about. My brother and I care about her to the point where others call us her advocates. Thank you, Cas! Great guest and interview. Thank you, Doctor!❤

Great podcast! I’m one of the fortunate ones who benefited from the pandemic. As a retiree I’d been a member of the YMCA for several years and regularly attended various classes. When we were issued stay at home orders a number and f us missed not only the classes but the contacts. A few of us were texting and staying in touch that way and then the Y was able to have classes like yoga and tai chi outside. A number of us would stay afterwards and chat in the parking lot. One of the local fraternal groups was sponsoring a walk/run 5k. Five of us wanted to do that and when asked for a team name I said the Tai Chi 5. Over time more friends joined the group and our five became six then seven, eight and occasionally nine or ten. Males and females, an occasional spouse in the group but most are not attached. Few of us have family local so the group is filling many needs. We still walk once a week at a local greenway and occasionally hike at the local state park with First Day Hike there being a group activity that we all make a point of doing. We also attend theatre productions with three of us being active in the local community theater group but attendance isn’t just local. Many will travel miles for an attempt to earn the recognition of the other name for the group. The Culture Vultures. 😂. We go to concerts together. Some of us bike together. Some kayak together. Five of us share our watercolor experiences. Some would rather eat out than eat at home so some are always out for an interesting place for a meal. And we don’t all have to do the same thing. We are all there for one another In whatever way they need. We vary in age from 62 to 79 with one spouse being over 80. We aren’t similar in education or socioeconomic backgrounds. And we all have particular individual interest. I volunteer with meals on wheels. One teaches art camp for kids during the summer. One donates blood every 58 days or whatever the earliest time he’s allowed to do ao and he will drive many miles to find an open donation site on that day. He doesn’t wait for one to come nearby. One plays handbells at his church. One does hundred mile bike trips. One built his own dulcimer and will occasionally entertain us with it. One is a huge game collector so we will occasionally gather for group game night. We’ve traveled before to see the Van Gough virtual exhibit and have been to Colonial Williamsburg several times for special events. It’s my family as I have no relatives within 500 miles but I’m so blessed to have all of these people on my side. I’m vegan and they aren’t but they are always on the lookout for restaurants that has good options for me and will often, on their own, opt to go to a restaurant that is totally vegan and happily eat my kind of food. So without a doubt, we’ve got this magic longevity thing working for us. Lovely seeing it confirmed by the delightful guest!

@@elizabethsorensen7363 Indeed I am! And I appreciate them every day. We all have other good friends aside from this group and occasionally one will join us and it’s all good. But they are indeed a blessing. And I’m going to remember that early tomorrow morning when I head out to join some of them kayaking far earlier than I usually get out and about! 😂

I believe in zen cas!!! Dispite what you might think. You bring me zen! Just getting this doc on is zen! Thank you for reaching out of you comfort zone. My sister told me that while I’ve been decluttering I’m seriously retrieving pieces of my soul. I believe this because I’m releasing things that I’ve hung on to for years for why???! Not sure. I’m finding myself threw you and what you do🤯

Cas, you're such a fun person, and your podcasts are so helpful in terms of helping people to prioritize, minimize and manage life. If we lived in closer proximity, I would love to be friends with you!

Cass, this is a sensational and fascinating podcast. Thank you very much for all the hard work you do sharing new ideas and wonderful advice for living a better life. I’m in my early 50’s and the wheels are falling off. My Mum died, I had to put my Dad in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s and I’m parenting a tween and a teen, both with their own issues. Nice to be able to look up and get some inspiration and hope:)

I learned from my father to interact with everyone we meet. A compliment or random positive observation can leave an impact. My "weirdness" makes it easier for me to not care about the obvious judgments that people have.

This was such an interesting & informative Podcast. Everyday I wake and know how blessed I am with an amazing family (Three awesome Granddaughters) fabulous friends and three 'Core' girlfriends that helped to shape who I am today. This study's findings were so valuable to hear. At the grateful age of 68, I still love to learn. Thank you both so very much.

I love to send quick texts to friends just to say "Hey, I was thinking of you" 🙂 I also created a separate Google calendar for "Friends & Family" where I try to make note if a close friend/relative mentions an important event in their life (whether it is a trip they're taking, a surgery/appointment they're worried about, a presentation at work, etc.) so that I can reach out and wish them luck or ask how things went.

I also love to get mail that's not a bill or a marketing piece, so I hope to get to a place where I can mail notes to people to say hello, but for now I keep up with the text messages.

I am a bookkeeper, and i realised that being a lady bug actually shows up in my job , for example when doing bank reconciliation my colleagues will separate "utilities " into water, heating and electricity, but i call everything utilities. They will have separate categories for each subscription type, i pool everything into subscription category when doing reconciliation 😂

Beautiful conversation, very interesting. I am unable to be around fragrances and this has changed my life so much, in particular my relationships, I now have just a few friends and some close family, I mostly visit through online or on the phone. I crave to be around other people more often but it just makes me to ill. I am so grateful for the relationships I do have ❤it is what mostly matters, along with my relationship with myself, God and the Angels, my garden, pets and nature.

Good news -- new study(studies?) shows evidence that parasocial relationships can also count in the satisfaction. One doesn't have to be in person as long as they're engaged. One example I heard was if you know "in jokes" - that indicates a level of engagement that can be healthy
