Part of the reason attention goes toward the violinist Jill is because of the handful of violin centered cover songs they did in the Spring of 2020. Fuki, the vocalist was finishing work outside of the Band, and one of the guitarists was on hiatus. The covers went well, and since than a small number of violin centered pieces have been part of the live act.

I think as you can see from the Doll$boxx reaction, Fuki has full control over her vibrato, it's a choice of when to use it, when not to use it, and when to go super wide with it. I know the latter is not to your taste (I've got more used to it but I also prefer it less wide) and that's fine - but I don't think its right to suggest she doesn't have control over it.

The vibrato is just a stylistic choice, a lot of japanese singers use that, its not about control at all

Some of the Japanese traditional vocal styles have a wide and very fluctuating vibrato. I assume that's the reason why a bunch of their rock and metal vocalists also incorporate that into their sound. I am also not always the biggest fan of it, but I would see it more as something cultural than anything else.

This track is an other one of their Touhou covers/rearrangements (wiki Touhou Project for more info on that franchise), some of them are really good and this is certainly one of them. They actually originally started out doing just doing Touhou covers when they were just a 2-piece. And no worries with Unlucky Morpheus as long as you use their official videos, they are happy that people react to them and actually want people to use their official page (and not some rips that are put online). They are independent, so no meddling from labels either.

*David* - Fuki has Masterful control over her vibrato! In their albums and live shoes she will switch her vibrato from tight to very wide. Fuki's mother used to sing Shigin poetry to her. Shigin is Traditional Japanese 'sung' poetry that uses a very wide vibrato - often with multi-tonal passages *_within_* the vibrato. Yuko Sukuhana, founder of Wagakki band, is a Master of the technique, and teaches it in University.

Honestly I confess I’m one of them 😂 I like the vibrato, I love the weird dissonance it has Idk how to explain exactly but I see why some people wouldn’t like that, but if I were genuine I think I would never want to trade her vibrato or tone it down because it’s her style & find it precious especially for Unlucky Morpheus even being a double edge sword. I also don’t like some people & even some unhinged reactors mock her because of that, from what I heard at least (I may be wrong) Fuki is a self trainer of her own voice, like she is not professionaly trained by others & she got this singing style by listening to her mother, I would say that even for Japan her vibrato is more unique, because she uses a bit of raspy alongside, her voice also resembles the voice of a boy, it has a bit of a masculine tonality, you can notice that in the Black Pentagram live the most. Great reaction as always David, I really like how you talk about giving the whole band recognition as well.

Good review again, David. Love when you come back to Unlucky Morpheus. As some have pointed out about the connection between them and Touhou Project, here is the original song that they were working with: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8jJZA-O_B78.html. Fuki's vibrato usually makes me think of those old cartoon clips where a car is speeding through a mountain pass full of hairpin turns while barely being able to stay on the road. When it hits right, I totally love it, but when she's a little off, it's a little jarring and takes me out of the song for a moment.

that's ... weird choice, i mean you've already heard some of their best songs like Black Pentagram and Angreifer, as far as i know you also heard Cadaver / Revadac palindrome song, you've even heard 4-handed bass performance so honestly with this band you're at the point where you're left with some old songs based on ZUN's Touhou Project compositions (like this Unkown Child, SIVA, Dragon Force) or some stuff from time when Shiren had his arm muscles issues so as he couldn't play his guitar that much he used to compose more death metal stuff where he could shine with his screamo. I mean you probably seen most branches of their music, any next song by them you'll hear will be similar to something you've already heard. I don't mean you should stop reacting to them, rather keep going but don't expect to be really surprised by them cuz with stuff you checked out from them you can easily say you know this band

Thanks for reacting to this, David. As it was already said, this song is a cover of a song from a famous bullet hell shoot 'em up game in Japan, known as Touhou(or Touhou project, as it has a ton of games, both official and non-official). Unlucky Morpheus in their inception was a doujin metal band that played covers of games and anime, mostly Touhou related. It was only in 2014 where they started to release their own original music (curiously this was also the year that Light Bringer, another band featuring Fuki on vocals, was put on indefinite "hiatus")with the album 'affected' and the song that put them on the map to to speak was 'Black Pentagram', that shared this time with the title of its album, released in 2016. Everything else is about what we've always talked about in UM reactions, always appreciate the honesty 🤘
