DD2 is a must-have for me. It will be one of the very rare preorders for me. The first one was so unique and had this “something” in it that made me scratch my head with the thought “How this game never was a GOTY/RPG contender”. One of my favorite parts of this game is that the pawns learn about monsters, quests, and areas as they experience them. This happens both when you play and when other players "rent" them out. So a player further along the game than you can teach your pawn about quests you have yet to encounter and, when you do, your pawn can offer advice on those quests. Same for monster weaknesses or area knowledge. So hyped for DD2

FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME! And before Dragon's Dogma, I hated fantasy games... only played WWII shooters and strategy games. Yes, the story and world were abbreviated by Capcom in an effort to push the game to market, but so many elements and systems were present to make the magic, combat, and exploration AMAZING (and IMHO the art direction is wonderful). After 4 playthroughs I'm still finding elements and systems I hadn't known about. And those pawns... I love the chatter and their abilities (AI); it makes an SP game feel alive and not a solitary experience. Great stuff!

I have a soft spot for Dragon's Dogma, but it always felt like a game with a lot of interesting ideas that were overall poorly developed. Like your character's height and weight playing into pressure plate puzzles or holes you can shimmy through... but those were so rare as to be largely irrelevant. Or how it impacted stamina and carry limits, which wasn't well explained by the game. Having to plan out your build well in advance and swapping classes to ensure specific stat gains is something I loathed, because it meant either playing the game with a guide open the whole time or getting to end game only to find out your character is underpowered. The ability to climb large monsters and damage specific parts of them was the coolest aspect of the game to me, but suffered from some jank that detracted from the mechanic's potential. Just getting the game to let me grab onto the chimera already was so tedious. All in all, it's not a bad game, it's just that it could use improvement in a lot of areas. It's a shame more games didn't take those ideas and improve on them. (Well, there is always Monster Hunter for jumping on a monster's back and cutting parts off it, but that has its own foibles to deal with.)

Love this game, playing new game plus currently. One tip for newbies, don't rush to Gran Soren (even though it gives you an early quest to protect a caravan to Gran Soren which you can just do when you are actually ready to head there). There are a few ongoing quests that will be nullified if you don't do the initial quests before hittting the capital.

The point i remember most after about 10 years not playing it is that Dragons Dogma is the only action RPG with actually helpful NPC companions. In any other RPG the companions are either canon fodder or simply overpowered and did all by themselves. In this game they put a lot of work into teamplay with the ai and it works exceptionally well. Of course not flawless, but the companions do what you tell them to do, communicate what they expect you to do or how they can help you.

This came out RIGHT after Skyrim, so I doubt Dragon's Dogma took inspiration from Skyrim. I'm surprised you never mentioned climbing on monsters. That's one of the biggest additions to the combat. Just about all other games do not have this mechanic. And even fewer allow you to maneuver while climbing so freely. Pawns also learn and grow, not only from yourself, but from other players. Other players will hire your pawn, and your pawn will learn of quest lines that you haven't been through yet. And they will tell you where to go or what to do from what they've seen. Or, they'll tell other players how to do things. The pawns also learn how they should fight from watching you. It's a bit annoying, but it's an interesting mechanic. If you pick up items during combat, your pawn will pick up items during combat. If you focus on fighting the largest creature, your pawn will as well. And you can change the way they act manually, but it can be hard to understand. THE WIND IS PUSHING ME!

For me the endgame parts where the most fun, where the game focuses on the combat which is the best part, with no bland storylines and slowly walking across the map

Dragon's Dogma succeeded in what AAA titles fails miserably nowadays even after so much hype, which is making a FUN game without countless BS that annoys u more while playing than encourage I played it over 200 hours easily while farming BBL. Most fun I had after a long time

I have the weirdest relationship with Dragon's Dogma I've never seen such a deeply flawed experience that I enjoyed so much. There's so many highs & lows that it's probably the strangest story of quality I've ever seen. I love the game I think, I've played it to 100% completion on 360, PS5, & Switch so fair to say I liked it xD I hope the sequel is able to capture the good & improve on the flaws of the game!

Because of the many flaws it took me a long time until I saw the truth: This game is a masterpiece and was in many aspects far ahead of its competitors at that time.

The Pawn system back then for DD was revolutionary🔥🔥 It’s what really made the game unique and worth the experience. After awhile you tend to grind more and more just to “perfect” your Pond. But what really makes them an asset in battle are their “Inclinations.” It’s some what of a complex system which predetermines how they respond in battle. At first if you’re wondering why your main Pond or hired Ponds are running around with like a headless chicken, is because their inclination is all wack. There’s a method to change their behavior, but it takes a time and experimentation. Of course there’s no guarantee they’ll be the perfect Pond. Ponds in DD run by a script they must follow. But for the most part a well trained Pond with the right set of skills will benefit from one to another (inclinations)

Dragon's Dogma is the only RPG that lets me actually make a colossal, *genuinely* muscular woman instead of 'short swimsuit model' or 'tall swimsuit model'. I will always champion it for that.

I want a game called Dragon Dogmeat where it's a dog with Bethesda's iconic Dogmeat's name but he's a dog that's the descendant of a dragon (for some reason).

I didn't play this until 2019, damn I missed out years of fun. Absolutely love this game, it's like a combination of Shadow of the colossus, a hack n slash and Rpg. Yes it's rough around the edges but it's certainly very underrated. I can't wait for DD2 to come out, already pre-ordered it on PC. I highly recommend all try this. There are some annoying things about it such as even when you respec you can't change your stats from what you got while levelling and some builds really are cookie cutter, some build make the last boss a joke and others struggle but overall it's superb and you can buy it for a few quid!

Hey Mitch, take a look at the new game, Svarog's Dream, it's a one dev's work indie aRPG, with the vibes of the elder scrolls, a bit of diablo 4, quite a nice story, very good game. The dev has launched a lot of updates and it shows the love in making the game. Certainly worth a look =)

I've played DDDA for many years now, first on Ps3 i think, then i got it on PC and i've played the shit outta it, min maxed multiple magick archers, collected all the BBI items twice, only thing i have left to do is level a character to 200 and get the speedrun mode completed

I am eagerly waiting for the sequel. I hated the game back when I first played it, but I recently picked it up again on a whim and I loved every...most minute's of it. I have my issues with the game, but its generally a blast to play. I especially love the Magic you get access to because the higher level stuff is utterly bonkers. If you want a recommendation for a game to look at, how about Code Vein? An Anime style Soulslike with vampires and absurd swords that really didnt get anywhere near the attention it deserved.

I still remember playing this when it first came out - one of the best/most terrible things was the original intro song which was replaced in Dark Arisen. OMG was it terrible, but awesomely so.

I just picked this game up about 2 months ago and I really enjoyed it. I saw someone in a forum say they "liked it better than Skyrim". It's a little lacking in story and environment compared to the Elder Scrolls. Also the locations are limited to 1 or 2 big settlements. Kind of miss those old games that had a new town to explore every so often. It does make up all its shortcomings with the epic combat system, made every encounter feel like a serious battle, especially at night. I laughed out loud at the Capcom goofiness of the whole thing. For me it was the pawns going into some poor fisherman NPCs house and just automatically smashing/looting every single crate or barrel this dude had. All while speaking advice in old middle English, because that's normal. Definitely recommend it and it already looks like the new one coming out in a few months looks even better in so many ways.
