That's true omg like what was his reason or what drove him to turn to Voldemort and betray his friends. From what I get from the whole series was he's scared? He wanted to save himself that's why he turned to Voldemort? That's just probably me but yeah, that's what I just concluded since he just popped in and then died without the explanation we needed 😅

Meh, his betrayal shoudn't have been shocking, he was always weak and quiet, that was the point of his character. That he was never truly a part of James crew becuase of his cowardly personality, and in the books. He is portrayed like that, i think wormtail is a very good ( storywise) character

@kyleartz2270
@kyleartz2270 4 года назад
Correction: Voldemort was egotistical and was very grand in the way he acted, it wasn't about just killing Harry it was about proving and showing everyone that he was the most powerful wizard ever, having someone else kill harry or using non-magic ways to kill harry wouldn't have the same appeal, it's why he duels Harry in the graveyard instead just killing him while he's wandless, or why he planned for the Triwizard Cup take Harry to the graveyard instead of any random object. He is a showman and his theatrics help instill fear into the wizarding community.

I often think that Wizards are oblivious to the fact that muggle objects and tools would do the trick way better than magic at times (hello wizards, please drop the quill and pick up a pen) but even If this wasn't the case for Voldemort, he would never use a muggle weapon. It would be extremely out of character since he is all about pure magic supremacy.

Ben Rutherford I actually liked when we finally got a relatively bad, antagonistic Hufflepuff character in Order of the Phoenix (Zacharias Smith). Everyone seems to paint Hufflepuff traits as them being flighty little pushovers who like to build flower crowns and make it their life's purpose to be ever so gosh darn friendly. I liked finally seeing that no house was a utopia, even if Zacharias Smith' wasn't frequent. There are downsides to every house, people will still be people no matter where they're put. Hard work and loyalty can easily be twisted around to suit a villain's needs, too. While we didn't exactly see a full-blown Hufflepuff villain, I did like that we finally got a Hufflepuff who wasn't idealized. And this is all coming from a Hufflepuff.

I don't know if this is unpopular but I'm gonna day it anyway: Lupin should not have died. I don't think his death served a purpose other than to make Teddy an orphan and illustrate the cycle of war. But that seems weak compared to all the good his survival could have do to benefit Harry, the main character of the books. I don't think his death really served a purpose to further Harry's journey. When Lupin died Harry didn't even react. But Lupin is a huge character. He survived so much tragedy and shunning and he was the best teacher Harry ever had. I feel like JK just killed him off to add to the already needlessly high death toll. Like show me some older characters who were good people and for they morality were allowed to survive and prosper in a post-voldemnkort era. I feel like Lupin deserved happiness after all the suffering he was dealt in life. Him becoming the permanent Defense against the Dark Arts teacher after Voldemort would have been so cathartic and deserving. And I just feel like Harry deserves to have one of his parent's friends still alive to he can still have a link to them.
@MarcelVos
@MarcelVos 3 года назад
I think the entire point of Lupin dying is to show that sometimes those who deserve to live the most still die, especially in war. It doesn't matter that his survival would've been a huge benefit to Harry as the death eaters didn't care about that, so they killed him anyway.

I think I can explain one possiblity for Harry's attachment to Sirius. I think Harry LIKED that Sirius treated him like a mini version of James/his dad. Because both his Uncle and his aunt and Snape only had negative stuff to say about his dad, and here is this guy who goes "Oh, james was the bestest person ever and you're just like him". As a teenager, I had a stepmother who HATED my birth mother, and everyone associated with this woman knew she was not my real mother, but they didn't usually talk about my real mom positively. If an adult had come up to me when I was a teen, compared me positively to my actual mom, and acted like I was their best friend, I'd probably have followed them around like a puppy with a platonic crush and considered them family. I get why Harry would go ga ga over Sirius, I really do.
@horimo8920
@horimo8920 8 месяцев назад
Harry liked Sirius because he was his only hope, he gave him a broomstick, and protected him. A lot of people don't realize that as soon as Sirius went home because of the order. His mind started to slip back into adolescent. It was a trauma response to help him cope with staying in his parents house. This is why I blame Dumbledore. Harry and Sirius are one the same. They desire freedom.
@alakiahm8884
@alakiahm8884 7 месяцев назад
I agree with this. Also Harry as a neglected child would have developed a lot of independent coping mechanisms which may make it very hard for him to lean on someone emotionally who is stable like Hagrid. Sirius would be easier to attach to for that reason. Also Sirius is more of an aspirational hero type figure to a teenage boy as he has more glamour and edge about him.

Throughout the series, the ministry of magic through varying degrees infringes upon the human rights of its denizens. In book 2 they imprison Hagrid without a trial. In book 5 they restrict the education of young Wizards to ensure that they become non-combatants in the future. In book 6, the imprison innocent people to make it look like they're doing something. And finally in book 7, they allow themselves to be fully run by Voldemort and his cronies. I really couldn't stand how the other houses were portrayed. Slytherins were all evil, which there is cannon evidence that goes against that. We don't see much of Ravenclaw-expect in a few characters. Hufflepuffs are seen as the lesser house. Yet, Gryffindors are the shining stars. I don't get it.

I generally think if you have all the traits of Gryffindor you will be a bit ( or a lot ) of a bully. I think ravenclaw is extremely underused because with the traits ( wit creativity and intelligence) there is a lot of range and you could really build on it. With Hufflepuff just they seem like the best people to have in a book like this or at least they could have said something like Ron ( only cause I think his traits Aline quite well with Hufflepuff) had a hat stall between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff and he chooses one because...... and slytherins just they could of gone a different approach cause looking at the traits again they seem like good people to hang out with

The need to keep the House stereotypes 'clean' is shown with Pettigrew being in Gryffindor. It's fine while describing the Marauders, but he's the reason Harry's parents are dead, he's a vile traitor, he goes against what the House stands for. Once the truth got out there should have been some sort of comment, something like how he tarnished the 'perfect' image of Gryffindor, or how the House stereotypes are bs (which would have been a stepping stone towards uniting the Houses like the Sorting Hat wanted).

Very unpopular opinions: ( I’m probably gonna add on to it in the future as well) -Cedric wasn’t shown enough in the movies/books to be a sad death -Fred’s death in the movie wasn’t sad -None of the ending couples actually made sense and were just thrown together so that the next generation could be developed -Dumbledore is honestly the worse character in the series, he put Harry in an abusive home, full well knowing that they were “the worst sorts of muggles” like are there really no laws in place that could of put Harry with literally anyone else -I feel like Voldemort was actually a really interesting character that just went down the wrong path of dark magic, yes his views on somethings were barbaric and he was a full blown psychopath but it was just the horcruxs that made him go crazy, crazy -I literally hate all of the new generations names, like I get that Harry and everyone wanted to honour the people who died but couldn’t they just have them as middle names? Like are Harry kids gonna name their kids after him because of what he did for the Wizarding World? Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they did -Snape was such a terrible character. He bullied Hermione, Harry and poor baby Neville, and he used Harry’s memories to literally mock him. He used Harry as a source to inflict hate on because of Harry’s father? Because Harry totally knew his father well enough to be exactly like him? Another point I don’t get, Harry and James had totally different upbringings and didn’t even get to meet each other so it would be very unlikely that they would even act the same way. Don’t get it twisted, Snape doesn’t care about Harry and only helped him because of a) the life debt from James b) he loved Lily -that’s it. Snape was around 30 by the time Harry was at Hogwarts yet felt the need to treat an 11 like trash because he’s SUCH an adult. -Book Sirius kinda sucked. He only really saw Harry as James and used the golden trio as a way of having fun and plus only really thought of himself in life :/*cough cough* outing Remus as a werewolf to Snape. Never even pulling a thought together that Regulus maybe wasn’t an idiot and was actually only influenced by his upbringing. It really didn’t help that he was in Azkaban so long but I think if he did live, he would of been a terrible guardian for Harry (although admittedly way better then the Dursley’s).

I always saw Sirius more as an brother to Harry. Maybe an uncle. It was always clear, that he was not able to raise a child. Mostly because he was a half-mad fugitive. But i would not see Hagrid as any better. Of course, there is an emotional connection, but he is not a father figure. He's more the cousin that means well, has some cools stuff and messes up regularly. That's why i think it's reasonable for Harry (not the reader) to see Sirius as his spare father. In addition, in every book she showed some really bad actions from Slytherin and they never did some good things. The main character hates them, everybody hates them. And then at the end, she just says: No, no, they're not that bad. There are some good guys. Really?

My unpopular opinion: I outright hate the pairing of Lupin and Tonks. I love them individually but the minute that scene in HBP happened everything just felt odd. Tonks acted oddly desperately for a guy nearly half her age(I know it’s “sort of” hinted throughout the book, but it still felt weird) and then everyone pretty much guilt tripped Remus into dating her. It never seemed like Her character to be like that and it felt weird that Remus went along with it. And when she becomes pregnant with his kid, he just fucking ABANDONS HIS PREGNANT WIFE and acts all “boo hoo I don’t want my kid to have a werewolf dad”. I’d understand being insecure about that, but just leaving his new pregnant wife for that cowardly reason is just... ugh. And they both have to die just so their kid had to be orphaned. I dunno, ever since JKR.put that in they just never felt like like themselves. Which sucks because I loved Lupin in Book 3 and Tonks in Book 5 but that ship was just god awful.

I think a lot of the tension/ between Ron/Hermione is that they struggle to admit that they want to be together ? From what I remember, they were childish/piss off each other in the beggining but since book 4 they start realize their feelings and have this weird friendship in denial (mostly at Ron's fault). We don't see they being together as a couple, because the book ends in the same day they start dating, but I always thought that most of that weight was gone and that the they would be a jokefull but caring couple. The epilogue feels that way.

I actually believe that Romione is a good ship. Hear me out, yes, they used to fight a lot but I believe that the fact that they got together on the last book shows that they were old and mature enough to handle their differences differently. Hermione used to be a little arrogant and close-minded but in the end she became a truly caring character that sacrificed a lot for others. Ron on the other hand used to be very whiny (don't get me wrong, I love him) but in the end he got over it. If you think about it, most of their arguments happened because of their very different traits. And they were kids! When you're 14 years old you aren't expected to already be mature. However, that doesn't mean that I don't respect other people's opinions, it is totally fine.

Lmao, Sirius spent less time with Harry than Lupin but Sirius's death caused Harry the greatest pain. I mean Harry used the Cruciatus Curse following his death, yelled at Dumbledore and broke Dumbledore's things in the Headmaster's office after Sirius died. When Lupin died, who's easily in my top 5 favorite characters, Harry primarily felt bad because he had a son, who was a baby, just like Harry was when James died. These 2 different reactions should tell you who Harry considered to be his father figure. A man convicted of killing Harry's parents, whom Harry wanted to kill mid third book, who saved the trio from Lupin the Warewolf, who kept in correspondence with Harry from that point on, to helping Harry with Triwizard Tournament, to give Harry understanding about Barty Crouch, and then relieving Harry from pain after Cedric died. He stayed with Harry at the hospital at the end of Goblet. He sided with Harry when others wouldn't give him info about the Order and Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix. He encouraged Harry to start the Dumbledore's Army, which you all love. He provided Harry with understanding how James was. He stood up for Harry against Snape and nearly had a fight with Snape, to make sure Harry isn't bullied during Occlumensy lessons. He risked his life at the end to save Harry at the Ministry, and DIED protecting Harry. Where was Lupin after Prisoner of Azkaban? He essentially disappeared for Goblet of Fire and came back in Order of the Phoenix. That's not a fatherly characteristic, but Sirius risked everything to be near Harry during the Tournament. Heck, we barely see Lupin keep in touch with Harry in Half Blood Prince. Harry had Sirius for only 2 years and Sirius kept communicating with Harry more than Lupin did in 4 years. Sirius died when he went to save Harry and Lupin died for the cause. That's a big difference.

As flawed as Sirius is, he is the only adult who Harry opened up to easily, and is an advocate for Harry's best interests. Sirius was reckless - but he was almost always reckless with his own life, never with Harry's. Also, in list of things Harry that show Harry's reaction to Sirius's death - Harry tried to strangle Mundungus when he thought he was stealing from Sirius's house.

Still Harry never found her too attractive in canon so that's already that. Would've been cool though! I think Harry sees Sirius as a father figure and the closest he'll ever come to knowing James, but he doesn't really know what a normal father would be like (Mr. Dursley is not a normal father, even to Dudley) and doesn't see the issues with how Sirius treats him. I think Sirius _thinks_ he sees Harry as a son, but he really sees James. It _is_ an interesting dynamic between two people with extremely tough histories, starting from childhood. Harry has a _lot_ of father figures; Hagrid certainly is _one_ of them, but I don't think any of them really fully encapsulate what it is to be a father, which might be the unconscious intent. The closest that comes to it, in my opinion, is probably Arthur Weasley, which is something of a default choice because I don't think either of the Weasley parents can help basically taking Harry on as yet another son when it is so clear he needs good parents in his life. Arthur doesn't seem to treat Harry too differently from his own sons. FYI, Sirius is my favorite character so... To anyone who thinks I don't love him as a character based on what is written above, don't. He dethroned Dumbledore (just saying).

The real twist is that Crookshanks is actually the cat that was owned by the Potters (mentionned in Lily's letter), and that is why he recognized Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black, and that is why he had been in the magical menagerie for ages (like Peter had been in the Weasley family for ages), and Sirius and Pettigrew probably did not recognize the cat, because they always thought he was just a regular cat, but Crookshanks is actually a kneazle. Harry is a child soldier that's been forced to kill, tortured, betrayed, abused, and had an unbelievable amount of stress, responsibility, and pressure put on him. That he's lashing out at other people is realistic and seen often in soldiers with ptsd. They have so much trauma that they can't deal with it and lash out. Add to that he literally has no one to turn to that will understand or help with these feelings. Everyone is either adding to the pressure or also a child. Everyone ending up with their childhood sweetheart/friends really annoyed me as well. Personally, I really wanted at least one major character to marry a muggle. The whole series is about acceptance and equality etc. and they all married within their circles?? Also: - Remus doesn't get enough recognition for everything he went through & everything he did for Harry. - Ravenclaw had the potential to be explored as (what I believe to be) a truly 'grey' house. But we didn't have any really relevant Ravenclaw characters, so... - The epilogue is too neat and happily ever after for me, personally. Could have done without it. - Regulus Black was the true MVP of the entire series.
@PunkZombie1300
@PunkZombie1300 5 лет назад
How was Regulus the true MVP of the series? Don't get me wrong, I liked his character, but let's look at what he did: -Betrayed Voldemort after Voldemort almost killed Kreacher (not because he had a change of heart about killing Muggles and Mudbloods) -Stole Slytherin's locket and left it with Kreacher -Died Which lead to: -Harry and Dumbledore not finding the locket in 6th year -Harry, Ron, and Hermione having to break into the Ministry to get it a year later Like I said, I like his character. He was sympathetic towards Kreacher and Voldemort's treatment of the House Elf made Regulus think twice about following him. Maybe it even changed his mind about being a blood purist. But his actions didn't change anything. In fact, had he done nothing, things would have gone smoother for Harry.
@chloeee91
@chloeee91 5 лет назад
I suppose he's my own personal MVP of the series because he stepped up when he really didn't have to and lost his life with no recognition for his sacrifice, bravery or cleverness. Regulus was a reformed Death Eater who died betraying his master for someone else's cause, and then thought of by a coward posthumously by his family, friends and society. Only Kreacher knew the truth, and he wasn't even allowed to defend him. A lot of people point out Hermione's intellect for example, but forget that Regulus had not only figured out that Voldemort was making a Horcrux, but managed to figure out where it was hidden and how to get to it, something even Dumbledore didn't achieve until much later. Fair enough, he didn't actually manage to destroy it, but he thought Kreacher would be able to and he knowingly sacrificed his own life in hopes that it would be, all at 18 years old. Even though it wasn't destroyed, if Mundungus Fletcher hadn't stolen the locket, Umbridge wouldn't have gotten her hands on it and it would have been safe at Grimmauld Place where Harry probably would have felt it/been drawn to it. There are many things that would have made life easier for Harry, but if they all happened, we wouldn't get a story. I'd also say that Regulus being driven to find the locket because of Voldemort's treatment of Kreacher makes him especially admirable. I do believe that he grew up believing his family's blood purist ideals to some extent, but I don't think he bought into them to the same level as say, Bellatrix or Walburga. It's said that he admired and respected the Dark Lord in his youth, which I can understand given his environment and upbringing, but it's also said that he began having doubts about his role and Voldemort using Kreacher as an experiment was the last straw that pushed him into acting. His relationship with Kreacher shows me that he had empathy and compassion for a magical being seen as inferior by most of wizarding society, not just the snobby pureblood ones, and I can't imagine someone who feels that way about another species could truly detest a subsect of his own. Personally I think Regulus being a Death Eater was a survival tactic. As someone with a Machiavellian thought process myself, it's exactly what I would have done if I was in his place. He had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders after Sirius ran away and got disowned, and he did what was expected of him and became a Death Eater for what - a year or so? before he defected because reality kicked in. I also think it's interesting that he's named after the star at the heart of the Leo constellation, which arguably would have been better suited to Gryffindor Sirius, but we know JK loves putting thought into her character names. Sorry I wrote an entire thesis, goddamn lmao. I just love me a neglected badass.

I like the point of the epilogue. I honestly kinda hate epilogues in general because they close of the wonder, that feeling of wanting more is great and I want to imagine that anything could have happened to the characters at the end. My main issue with epilogues, like the one for Harry Potter, is this need for everyone to be coupled off with kids. Real life doesn't work that way. Not everyone gets married with kids, and not everyone wants to be. I am frustrated with the notion that that is what a happily ever after should look like. What if for instance, Ron didn't have any kids, or waited a long time and his kids were significantly younger than Harry's. I could easily see Mrs. Weasly getting on Ron's case for not giving her grandkids.
@chloeee91
@chloeee91 5 лет назад
I agree, I don't like a story to be tied up in a bow and placed at my feet, epilogues are bit too finite for me as well. You're absolutely right, I don't really understand why everyone fell into the same traditional happily ever after. The epilogue was a really childlike view of the future, I think. Realistically, maybe Harry and Ginny got divorced, maybe Ron didn't want kids like you said, maybe one of them couldn't have kids, maybe one of them couldn't take how normal everything had become and now spends their time organising illegal underground duelling tournaments in Russia. The possibilities are endless. The fact that they all stayed in one place, settled among themselves and did what kids are usually told to do when they grow up is a bit sad to me.
