MoFi sleeves are only like $20 for 50 sleeves, but I prefer Diskeeper Ultimate inner sleeves, which cost aprox the same, but I use both. I keep my records behind the cover or in between a gatefold in a Sleeve City outer sleeve to avoid ring wear. Been doing it for many years. I can of course understand how people may wanna put em in a rounded inner sleeve to fit back into the original cover, especially if there’s graphics, lyrics, etc. on it. Cool vid as usual. Thanks!

Thants funny, I have hundreds of LPs from the 50's, 60,s and 70s that all play fine in paper sleeves. I agree that upgrade sleeves are better but I only use them for LPs that I really care about and or play often. Anti statics sleeves are very cheap, most being $.04 each US. I would recommend that you do not put your records in the original sleeves with art work because that adds wear to them as you access the LP and increases the risk of blowing out the edges. Just keep them separate. Plastic sleeves are replaceable, the original inner is for the most part not.

Paper sleeves, possibly depending on how they're made or something - I don't know - can deteriorate over time. A couple years ago I opened an LP from 1975 that had paper particles all over it.

I totally agree with you and yes static will eventually build up on your record. I was lucky to buy a brand new sealed 50 Nagaoka Innersleves for $2.00. It was at a thrift store and I guess they thought it was an album. Sometimes I find sealed calendars and 12" videodiscs, as well.

I use Mo-Fis for my black vinyl and the crystal clear Vinyl Storage Solutions inners for my coloured/clear records. And my most cherished records go in VSS double-pocket dual-flap 2 or 4 mil outer sleeves, I also keep my records behind the record sleeve to prevent ringwear. Which the double-pocket VSS outer sleeves are designed for. I wouldn't swap 'em for anything else.

I still have loads of new Diskeeper and MoFi master sleeves, because I bought them in bulk. I'll stick with those until I'm through all of them. I want a MoFi-style inner sleeve, but MoFis are too wide- they stick out of a lot of record jackets. So the question remains what the best is. I know that Hudson HiFi is better, and good enough for me now. My guess is that there is more body to this kind of sleeve vs the Nagaoka. There's a valid point to this vid if your original inner sleeve is useful or present in what you are picking up. But for a lot of LPs- especially vintage - that's not the case.

So the answer to protecting your vinyl is to use laserdisc sleeves. This is not new to me. in fact it's very old and goes back to the 1980's. I use to get hundreds these from the Pioneer LD distributor for free though the cable company and still have many for my vinyl. They where used for the cable and satellite PPV laserdisc rentals in the 90's and early 2000's. Some store bought LD's had them. Someone is making a fortune re-purposing use of these surplus leftover sleeves.I have all my vinyl collection in these and yes they fit in the original album sleeve. There are 2 other types with plastic and paper are used. I used to use some of them for dog poop bags since they where thin and handy. Enjoy paying lots of $$ for poop bags.

Thanks for the video, I'm contemplating my next purchase of inners and had actually forgotten about using Nagaoka (style) inside original paper inners. A large portion of my Lps are Japanese pressings so I've removed the Nagaoka inners and used them inside paper sleeves just as you've described. Regarding the MoFi (style) sleeves I disagree with your arguments against them- I've never had a problem storing them inside the cover next to the original paper inner, 'extra thickness' is not an actual problem. I'd say the cover actually benefits from the extra stiffness provided by the additional MoFi inner. I'd like to mention (2) disadvantages with using Nagaokas inside original paper sleeves: #1: 'Wear and tear' toencouraging #2: Nagaoka brand actually NOT practical in North America simply due to lack of supply- they end up costing MORE than MoFi sleeves, so cost argument is not valid (your Amazon link currently shows lowest price $36/50 sleeves with shipping- same price as 100 MoFi sleeves with discount from Music Direct!!). So I would disagree they are 'unquestionably' the best- they are great but have some trade-offs like all sleeve options..
@anadialog
@anadialog 3 года назад
The problem is that the MoFi don't fit inside the original sleeve, not the album. Of course they fit inside the album. Cost is not connected to efficiency, especially considering that as you have underlined it is very fluctuate. I am not defending Nagaoka but the concept, which is indeed the best to take care of your record and at the same time preserve the original layout. If you don't care storing the record out of its original innersleeve then MoFi is an excellent choice. In any case a lot of people pointed out that in the US you have a valid alternative made from invest in vinyl, which appear to be the same as Nagaoka and 10$ less than the MoFi.
@Matasky2010
@Matasky2010 3 года назад
@@anadialog Sure, but unlike you many people are not concerned with 'using' an original inner sleeve, and would prefer to preserve them. Many people prefer to remove the vinyl without pulling the whole inner sleeve out. Your arguments against adding a MoFi-style sleeve are silly. MoFi style sleeves can be found for $25/100 on Amazon (Square Deal makes them) for those of us in North America. The 'extra space they take up' inside the cover is literally the thickness of a piece of rice paper lol..

And I agree about paper sleeves. If the album came in a paper sleeve it’s immediately a bad sign. Imo budget pressing. Most likely American pressing or UK etc. lots of cheapo paper sleeves. Most ever single album I have that came with paper sleeve had some sort of minor damage from it when it was NEW and just opened. I makes me cringe to see paper sleeves being used. If you don’t care much for dead silence in your vinyl... sure who cares I suppose. If I ever ship an album, I would never ship in a paper sleeve. And makes me sick when sellers use them. But the original printed inner sleeves are super cool, and I agree it’s part of the value and experience but I preserve them and do not use them, I store them inside the cover. And use the vinyl in a MA records fabric type sleeve outside the cover. Making sure no seam splits are ever to happen. OCD :)

All Japanese albums... Or well over 95% of them have that round bottom anti stat type sleeve since the 70’s or so. So nice for a stock sleeve and love Japanese records for these reasons... just another bonus. But I’m still using MA recordings Japanese fabric type sleeves. Super super soft and albums slide in and out like nothing else. And they are anti fungal , but truly most expensive sleeve. Mofi is ok, but records don’t slide easily in and out, and would choose Kirmuss over mofi if I had to choose that style. The MA records sleeve is so smooth you can slide the vinyl in one handed. The tops are offset 4-5mm so you can slide the vinyl in with zero effort and 100% confident no scratches, no static charging, no fungal issue as it actually breathes unlike all other sleeves are mediocre at best.

It doesn't matter if the corners of this inner sleeve are round, If you keep your records in the original paper inner sleeve it is eventually going to tear. In Addition that paper sleeve is going to attract dust and moisture. If there is a paper inner sleeve with writing on it that I want to keep I store it in the jacket.

I have found the best defense to static electricity is a zerostat gun. As soon as you clean a record the friction creates static, even if you use a carbon brush, you need a good drain to ground such as using a wrist strap. But how practical is that?

Back in the day, at least from the early 1970's onwards, almost every Australian LP came in an inner bag which was that shape, although I don't think it was the same as the record companies usually used cheap plastic. Now almost all records are imported so we get those crappy paper sleeves.

Zero Percent of my records came in those paper sleeves that you showed. Seriously, I've never even seen one and I have hundreds of records from 60s-70s-80s-90s and 2000s... Virtually all of my LPs came in paper sleeves lined with (what I assume is) PE. I've been upgrading them all to rice-paper enforced Spincare HDPE sleeves, but that's just because of my buy-wash-listen cycle, if it wasn't for that one could easily keep the originals and be totally fine with them. Actually I've kept most of the original sleeves and whenever I sell the records they all go back to their paper-PE sleeve.

I use the MoFi sleeves and put the original paper sleeve in the album cover next to MoFi. What's the big problem with that?
@anadialog
@anadialog 4 года назад
No big problem Neil. Nagaoka is just a more clever and effective solution. Why? Multiply your MoFi sleeves for all your record collection. If you have thousands like me, that is going to be a LOT of extra space eaten up from the thickness of the MoFi sleeves. Moreover, adding a MoFi sleeve, in some cases, occupies too much space inside the cover, deforming it. Plus, as I have explained I like to pull out my record from the original sleeve. If I use the MoFi I am rarely going to see the original because most times I am going to leave it inside. Nagaoka makes you use the record as it was intended without adding extra space.

ANA[DIA]LOG I totally understand your situation. I have been an audiophile for over 53 years now when my only source of quality audio was records. I prefer to use the term vinyl but I now hear that that's a NoNo. It took me 17 years after the introduction of the CD player to actually find a musical sounding player so over time I have stopped buying vinyl and have purchased thousands of CDs and I only have about 800 vinyl recordings that sound worthy to my ears. Been using Mofy sleeves for so many years that the space situation that you're referring to is not mine. That's why my reply was to put them side-by-side in the record jacket. Didn't really seem to take up hardly any additional room. Thanks for your kind reply.

Indeed, a lot of people do that but I don't work for a museum. I want to enjoy my records and use them as you are supposed to, which is also why I don't use plastic covers on the outside. I want to feel, touch and smell the paper and the different parts of a record. What is the point to preserve them to that extent? So others when I am dead will use them instead of me when I was alive? Not my choice but I understand collectors, I just can't do that, which is also why I think the Nagaoka are the best because I have maximum protection and at the same time I can use the record in all its parts.

I just bought new unique limited edition vinyls and when I took out my new vinyls very carefully out its paper inner sleeves what was unlined and very thight make vinyls misted and maybe scratched also and now both vinyls have big white damage. Fortunately these vinyls working after that and sound quaility is same, but what I can do... can I clean or repair those damages? btw I must bought those amazing Nagaoka No102 Antistatic Record Sleeves! Fortunately by chance our local stores sells those Record Sleeves!

That is not the real price! As I said in the video it's usually 27-30$. They probably finished them on Amazon. They will be back in stock in a while. Invest in vinyl in Italy is much more expensive, almoat 40€!!. I hope they are good. After trying 4 times with other brands I gave up!

@@AriKona I don't recognize you! I thought you knew me. I did not call you a liar I just claimed my point. If you think about it, actually it was YOU that defined me a liar in the first place with you comment. In your first comment you stated a different price after that in the video I said around 27-30$ for the Nagaoka. Again 58$ is not the price of the Nagaoka inner sleeves on Amazon. You want proof? Here it is. On Keepa you can see the price of the last months of the Nagaoka 102 on Amazon.com ( keepa.com/#!product/1-B009AOLH8G ). When I posted the video (July 10th 2020) as you can see the price on Amazon.com was: 32.99$. Absolutely not 58$. I am sure that if you hunt other online shops you will find it at a cheaper price. Moreover, I said that the inner sleevs of "Invest in vinyl" are almost 40€ IN ITALY. Remember I am italian? and so it is. Check here: www.amazon.it/Sleeves-inserisci-Collection-corretto-Investire/dp/B07CYKRVRW/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=invest+in+vinyl&qid=1594493906&sr=8-2 As you can see the price is 37.52€ (almost, as I said, 40€) which is about 42.36$ much much more than the Nagaoka 102 (in Italy). @AriKona 4 года назад
@@anadialog In my first comment all I did was go to Amazon to verify the prices. I did not say that you were falsifying anything as I respect your right to say what you want. Since I have been down this same road and have spent way too much money on MoFi sleeves over the years, I was very happy to see Invest in Vinyl make the better sleeve (like Nagaoka) and at a more reasonable price. I certainly understand that Amazon (and other retailers) may have different prices at different time as well as where they are located (US vs EU). I guess when I see "Unquestionably the best record inner sleeve", I am hoping to find that to be true. The simple addition of IMO (something I often do) would make it more palatable. So, I apologize for saying you called me a liar as, in truth, you did not. I would suggest purchasing one order of Invest in Vinyl sleeves, take one of them and one of the Nagaoka, turn out the lights and see if you can tell the difference. I can't. And this could be why Invest in Vinyl is a best seller on Amazon. Keep on producing videos, they are useful, even if we don't always agree. ☮️

I don't have any problem with them. It's just a matter of convenience. They don't fit in all the original sleeves, your talking about the covers perhaps. You can fit MFSL sleeves inside lyric inners just fine, you dont need Nagaoka ones. And they are not the best inner sleeves for the same reasons MFSL ones are not. The best inners are plastic lines paper sleeves, like the Allman Brothers one, as the paper adds rigidity you can separate the sleeve from the record when inserting, creating 0 friction and wear. The RTI ones DEFINETLY scratch your records, any sleeve can as its the dirt inside the sleeve rubbing the record, and since the RTI ones are so tight and leechy they are terrible.

Paper sleeves ruin you records? Sure there are better options, better paper, anti-static, but how do they harm? What objective evidence is there? I have seen staining of wrinkles from the sleeve on old records stored for long periods, but this could be mold or chemicals leaching from the vinyl itself.
@4Kandlez
@4Kandlez 4 года назад
Or chemical leaching from the paper? Paper is abrasive and sheds particles which collect in the grooves, plus they attract mold if stored for long periods like you say.

PVC is very stable. That grainy paper! If you press it, it will scratch the surface of the record. It is rather logic, plus after some time the paper will leak acids or may shed particles in teh grooves. It is of very bad quality. This is a well-known problem. They are surely not using acid-free paper. Plus, don't forget the anti-static effect of the Nagaoka or similar inner sleeves.

@@anadialog Don't get me wrong, my precious audiophile recordings are in very good sleeves, but I have collected over 1000 records, and many have survived with the stock inner sleeves for over 50 years if you store them correctly away from temperature extremes and humidity. Also there is a proper way to remove a recording from a sleeve, and replace a disk back in a sleeve us old schoolers used for decades. Is common sense we used when there were no other sleeves other than the one you got with the record. Too lengthy to explain here, perhaps I will put up a video.
