In a music scene often dominated by themes of romantic love, SB19 stands out by breaking the mold and elevating Philippine pop culture. They tackle diverse topics-from family, personal struggles, and perseverance, to the complexity of public personas-introducing depth and substance to their music that isn't just about catchy hooks, but meaningful stories.
Their poetic and progressive approach to songwriting sets them apart, as seen in tracks like Ilaw and MaPa, where metaphors and wordplay are intricately woven into the lyrics. SB19’s artistry goes beyond music, as they create music videos that form a cohesive narrative, linking their work into a larger story.
Beyond artistry, SB19 bridges the gap between different regions of the Philippines through their nationwide tours, fostering unity among fans from all walks of life. Their commitment to authenticity, creativity, and resilience has redefined the local pop scene, paving the way for future Filipino boy bands and girl groups.
SB19 isn’t just redefining Philippine music-they’re elevating it.

Creating their own company was a big bold move for #SB19. They were thinking not only for themselves but on what they can contribute to the music industry & the country as a whole

Pablo the leader of SB 19 s a musical genius. He is the mastermind behind this meaningful songs. He is the songwriter, composer, producer and arranger of almost all of their songs. Aside from that he uses that wordplay to their songs. Yes, they are self-managed.

I realised they are the real ones when I listened to MAPA for the first time. I bawled my eyes out and as I watched the music video repeatedly and realised the lyrical nuances, I understood the depth of their artistry! They are really good! I appreciate their autheticity and I hope they continue to grow! I am certain they will continue growing!💜

👏 well said i know SB19 has a lot of fans and they are very dedicated and supportive. But SB19 is still underrated.. they need to be recognized by more people, especially Filipinos. people are not paying attention to them, because they were introduced as “the boy group who trained in Korea” which is not even true. because of this people already set their biases and opinions against them without giving them a chance nor listen. I know this because i was one of those people, no one in my circle knows them, but when i gave them a chance and watched their First Take, instantly I became a fan.

Very seldom I come across a Filipino reacts to SB19. And your reactions and observation are on point.. medyo bitin lang… 🤩🙏 I’ve been watching reaction videos of SB19 from various people mostly foreigners and yes, they are amazed at what SB19 have been doing in their songs ang in their dance..and lately they’ve been recognized about their fashion sense. Most reactions are for their songs GENTO and MAPA. I got to fully understand the message of the songs which have double meanings, allusions and different layers instilled in the music videos.. like MAPA - Map, Mama-Papa, Mata-Paa. Grabeh.. naadik nako especially their stint in the FIRST TAKE videos of MAPA and GENTO, which garnered lots of great reactions from various people mostly foreigners. I am looking forward to your next reactions of SB19’s. Sa sobrang versatile nila .. marami pa talagang aabangan sa SB19. 🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖

Very well said. SB19 are visionaries. They truly want to change the landscape of opm and bring it forward to the future and make it great enough to compete with other international artists. They are tackling this theme on all fronts in the Philippines and starting to convince people to the new way of thinking. They don’t just talk about it, they also walk the walk. And yet they remain so humble and acknowledge that there is room for every artist to shine in the industry. That’s why I truly love them and am one of their fans.

I also believe they are one of the major reasons why Billboard PH is back after it ended its operations in 2018. SB19xA’tin made so much noise in Billboard main that they relaunched in 2023 making SB19 as cover stars with ms Regine. Call me delulu but just look at SB19’s BB history, no other Filipino artists has achieved that much in Billboard main.

Totally agree. They resuscitated and formulated a 'sit back and listen' kind of Filipino music, particularly their live concerts. It was So Alive.. with their vocals and choreography, and their engagement with the audience was so personal that they seemed so reachable. Definitely an upgraded opm/ppop genre. Perhaps some were taken aback, for it was an uncharted territory for filo music, hence the resistance, including from some artists themselves, and the folks who were for so long has been marinated with the hugot style for years.

My main takeaways: 1. Connecting people. Last pagtatag docu screening i met up for the first time with my fellow A'tin in our province. We live in one region but have different dialects hence the tendency to not understand each other sometimes😅 but we bonded pretty well because of sb19. We were so noisy at mcdo singing their songs while eating. Music connected us all. 2. Form and substance. This is what really intrigued me. I became an A'tin after hearing La Luna. My gosh the wordplay and depth! And so does all of their songs. It's no wonder people call Pablo a genius. 3. Followed a legacy of failures. I agree. So many boybands came and went before them. They become famous for a while and then disappear. And some only became famous in a negative way (like not being synchronized or not sounding good in harmony). And then sb19 came and gave us BOOM! Synchronization like world class dance crew. Harmonization divine. The MVs? Revolutionary. 4. Not forced to sing something they don't want. Yeah! I came from a kpop fandom and the boys i followed sometimes had to sing something that doesn't represent their personality. Tho sb19 face financial problems sometimes because they didn't come from a big rich company, at least they're in control.

Thanks for this "synopsis" of SB19, it really captures the essence of Mahalima's halina-- how A'Tin grew to the size we have now, and still growing. Pablo mused why stan them, and my answer is always: it's their music (everything else is added bonus). Just one thing, in "What we get is what they want to give" u said "they're NOT fully in control..." u meant right? 😅 N-hu, I really enjoyed this ❤

Even the WYAT SONG, " there's no groove within this music, no sign of your heartbeat in it, I'm alone" They can just simply say, you're not here, I miss you, I feel lonely. Their songs will make you use your brain because of it's underlying meanings and intricacies which is very rare to find in a group here in the Philippines. This is why I understand why they are not that mainstream yet and many Pinoys still don't know them because you have to be someone who loves music or someone who has a deep understanding of art in general to really appreciate them. They don't settle for mediocrity.

I love how you laid out each point and I agree with all of them. You re-echoed my thoughts and you articulated them well. When SB19 introduced their music, it was a hard pill to swallow because it's different from what Pinoys are used to listen in mainstream. It's easy to accept and listen to KPop but not our own pinoy version of pop. I think in addition to the contributions of SB19, it would be interesting to discuss their impact in the industry and to their audiences. With the fresh sound and relevance they bring to the table, how did this shape or affect the status of music industry in general, the quality of songs produced and released nowadays, their effect to the new OPM artists rising especially in PPop or is there even a correlation between SB19's rise to booming PH music landscape today?

i hope this would be posted on facebook for wider reach. i agree with everything you said. I have also these thoughts. Many opm are only about romantic love/ heartbreaks, to me its getting shallow and boring already because that's not all there is to life and its the reason why i wasn't that all-in into opm before only gloc9 not until i have discovered sb19. They make songs that are full of substance and also sound wise they're very innovative and unique from any opm songs. Even love songs they make is tastefully done, has a healthy and mature concept of love, and it can also be interpeted in any kind of love not just romantic.

Also before "what?" mv came out, most opm mv before that were the usual singing while walking, running in the beach etc. Maraming napasabi after what? na kaya pla ng pinoy. Look at where "what?" director is now - hndi nalang sb19 ang client. He now also makes mv for sarah geronimo, cupof joe, bini, even marian rivera tiktok vids. SB19 and 1z entertainment really are gamechangers in an industry na palakasan, hilahan pababa etc. And its sad that many filipinos dont know or acknowledge that

To me SB19 is a shot of adrenaline to a the sleeping giant that is Filipino OPM. I cannot understand why I get the feeling it is their AGE that hinders them to be considered as a pillar of the industry. It seems to me their youth and their earlier K-Pop association put them in a box when their music is far beyond their years and the bounds of Filipino or K-pop music. To me these are the contributions of SB19. Add to that, they voice concerns and complexities only the youth have experienced and can identify with. They speak to and for the majority of the Filipino population thus should be taken seriously and be heard. The West is listening to them and gone farther than any of the mainstream artists whose careers have spanned decades. No disrespect to their predecessors but we should give the same support and respect to these new emerging leaders of the industry. Young as they may be, they are not like the 20-year-olds from generations past. Now that they've gone independent, I worry how they can keep moving forward. Negotiating locally is already difficult and moreso when dealing with say the US or Japan music industries. Filipino artists have always lost step overseas not because of talent but having a weak bargaining position.

Number 1 - reason why i stopped listening to opm after college. Because they were all the same - either cutesy pop, indie love songs or ballads. Sb19's "what?" brought me back to opm

Do you teach ptofessionally? You should. I felt like I was in a webinar😊 you didn't just give us a rundown of your thoughts but you spoke about it intelligently and point per point. You gave me a broader perspective on SB19. I will only listen to you from hereon❤ kudos to a job well done🎉🎉 More please kahit ibang group pa yan😊

SB19 for me is the most SELFLESS Ppop group. They always mention Ppop rise in their interviews. And yet, bashers downplay their great contribution. Ubdeniably, this group's songs will endure and stay gor a long time.

of oourse it is being recognized. everyone in the industry reconizes sb 19. kung sino man nagsasabi ng di sila recognozed ikaw na lang yun siguro. kasi pag di kinikilala yan wala sinuman ang sumusuporta dyan. kaya nga sila nananalo sa mga ibat ibang flatform dahil ma din sa mga fans. pinoy pa ba? alangan naman nananalo sila dahil sa boto ng mga dayuhan? 😂😂😂
