In Russia there’s people who believe the USSR never dissolved, so technically the USSR is an unrecognized nation.

Limerick in Ireland declared an independent Soviet that lasted a few weeks in the 1920's I think it was. They issued their own currency too. I don't know much about it apart from that.

There was also another short lived republic in Ireland, the Limerick Soviet when the workers of Limerick took over the city of Limerick for a brief period in 1919 just as the Irish war of independence was starting. They also had their own currency, but the British eventually suppressed it. It is said to be the first soviet outside Russia or Mongolia.

You can mention the Carpatho-Ukraine. A country that became "independent" after the annexation of Czechia by the Third Reich. It was conquered by the hungarians a few days later though.

In Croatia the village of Petrijevci near Osijek was also a country(unrecognised) around the swamps there but was later incorporated into Yugoslavia in 1919.

And in France : Brittany Basque Country Corsica Alsace Lorraine Savoy (These aren't really unrecognized but have quite interesting pro independance stories through history, like the Faeroe Islands, Scotland, the Duchy of Normandy or Burgundy) You could also explain how places like Luxembourg or Liechtenstein became independant unlike most of the small kingdoms of the Holy Roman Empire and so on

You could do an entire video on the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'. Unlike those on this list, it is an unrecognized state that exists today.

Neutral Moreset (not certain I'm spelling it correctly). It used to form a 4-point country border with Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. Transnistria cannot go unmentioned, especially as you named Gagauzia in Moldova (not Moldavia, which is a part of Romania).

Some people here in the comments section were debating the limits of Europe. Here's my opinion: To the south-east, the Bosphorus river marks the frontier, thus making Turkey partially European. To the east, the Ural mountain range, the Ural river and the Caucassus mountains mark the frontier, making Russia also partially European (only a small fraction of its land extension but around 70% of its population).

After WWI there had been a „Freistaat Flaschenhals“ in the Middlerhine reginon of Germany. It was a unclaimed part of Germany that neither the US nor France occupied after the end of WWI. Freistaat Flaschenhals is translated in Republic Bottleneck which comes from the shape of the piece of land, but also remembers the a lot of wine is grown in the areas. After the Greeks took west Thrace, they forcefully relocated the Bulgarians that lived in the region. My great grandmother took her son and 8 other orphans and crossed the border taking them 500km north. No one ever knew who of the 9 boys was her biological son she payed for their education and bought each one land. She has 9 grand daughters named after her and now my daughter carries her name too.

In The Netherlands we have Friesland (Frysia) in the north with their own recognized language and Limburg (where I am from) in the south which also has their own language but that was recognized as a regional minority language. Of Frysia I don't know a lot, only that there is a East-Frysia in Germany and that they were descendants of the Frisii. Of Limburg however I know a bit more. The Duchy of Limburg wasa state of the Holy Roman Empire and was located in nowadays Liege (Belgium). Later they became part of the Burgundian Netherlands (one of the seventeen provinces). In 1793 French revolutionary troops occupied the land and terminated the duchy. From 1815 till 1830 Limburg belonged to Great Britain, then with the independence of Belgium it became part of Belgium and with the treaty of London singed by Willem I, Limburg was split in two between Belgium and The Netherlands. Untill 1866 Duchy Limburg was part of the German Confederation. The Netherlands was in the possesion of the Duchy of Limburg and with the second treaty of London it became a province of The Netherlands. The Limburgish language is spoken by over more than 2 million people today. In a Dutch newspaper of march this year (when Frysian was recognised as an official language and Limburgish as an regional minority language) it says that from data from a research 30% of the native Frysian speakers still speak the language at home, where 45% of the Limburgish speakers speak the language at home. DId not expected to see the "Monarquia do Norte"! After the Republican Revolution of 1910, that brought an almost 800 years Monarchy to its end in Portugal, Monarchist forces tried to bring down the Republic a couple of times. Exactly one year after the Revolution came to place the first attempt, then another one with some more intensity, all of them in the North. But the 1919 movement was the most significant one, and they didn't only took control of Porto, but almost the whole of the North (thus the Monarchy of the North, as it is commonly known). Remember that Portugal joined the Allied in World War One, then came the "Spanish Flu", our First Republic was a mess, so, fertile ground for revolts. Kingdom of "Traulitania" is a hilarious cool nickname. "Trauliteiros" and "traulitada" is a funny folksy way to refer to a hit, as in someone or something hitting another person or another thing. It seems that those who supported the coup liked to persuade others to join in or to not oppose, with a good pair of... "traulitadas". 😆

You should mention the Republic of Ossola in the next video. It lasted for 44 days but it's quite an interesting story. Was officially recognised by Switzerland.

There is a huge dispute in Romania between the romanians and the hungarians in the two counties Covasna and Harghita. They are fighting for independence, but the government won’t allow it. Also the stosrt of how Transilvania became a part of Romania is an interesting one.

I'm Irish and I'd never heard of the Republic of Connacht. Cool. Also tells you a bit of how well history is taught here.

for your information: between the month of March and August of 1796, (after the fall of the Most Serene Republic of Venice and before the foundation of the Cisalpine republic, very faithful to Napoleon Bonaparte, the REPUBLIC OF MARTINENGO (Lombardy, province of Bergamo) was proclaimed the goal was the independence of the sovereign people from the dominant city of Bergamo, the colors of the flag were golden yellow and blood red, with a red eagle on a gold field, Napoleon deemed it sufficient to allocate Martinengo as district chief of the Lower Plain which is part of the newly established Cisalpine Republic, comprising a large part of the Po Valley.

Like the video. I'm Irish and didn't know that connacht declared a republic. during that reblion county wexford was the other main area for reblion. wexford also declared a short lived republic.

Actually, some of the Cossack remnants fought alongside germans on the eastern front against USSR. If they got captured, though, they were executed on the spot.

There is 0 chance of western Thrace I live in Greece and Noone has even thought of such thing and in that part of Thrace 90% of people who live there are Greek Christian so I don't think they would want such thing especially with the recent conflicts in the area with turkey on the border

There was actually one that happened in Iceland with the support of the British, the man named Jørgen Jørgensen was the one who started it and he is reffered as "hundadagakonungur" or in English "The Dog-Days King" as it only lasted for a couple of weeks/months in the summer of 1809 if I'm not incorrect, quite a funny story tho

You really should use appropriate map at 5:55. Lithuania had different eastern border at the time and ultimately republic look diferently. It's a really funny story as well ;)
