one advantage life has over video games is that if you can see an unremarkable place, you can go there, and enjoy the region’s perfect collision detection (usually)
reason why i love watching these videos is because you go off and talk about some hidden meaning like how “the moon is judgemental”. it’s just interesting how something so normal can be taken for something completely else.

I’m not the biggest Mario Kart fan, but I never would have guessed that electro dome (I’m not checking if that is the correct name) was outside. Just because I haven’t played Mario kart much recently, doesn’t mean I don’t have very clear ideas about each track. But yes, I like this and would very much appreciate more like this!
the classic f-zero games always make me feel weird. Lore wise you're supposed to race on tracks that are miles above the ground and the seemingly random pattern below you are actually supposed to be endless cities. It took me 24 years to find that out and I can't look at the textures now without feeling weirdly empty and satisfied at the same time. kinda hard to explain. Would love to see an episode on the classic f-zero

I’d love to see an ‘odd and unremarkable places’ video for Breath of the Wild. I realise that it would be like shooting fish in a barrel for that game, but there are some really strange-feeling places in hyrule.
I think just staring at the audience in Mario kart is just enough to give you a weird feeling. The hop back and forth in an endless cycle with without blinking and indifferent to you. Takes you out of the world and makes you realize your playing a game.
If you're doing modern games check out left 4 dead 2. It's absolutely full of places that make sense only when you're flying past them at full speed. The dark carnival campaign in particular. Great video man.
another really good spot, in cheep cheep beach. after you glide over the water near the beginning, turn around and go back in the water. there's this really cool & lovely underwater area with fish and stuff. I remember playing it back in the day and hoping we would someday get a water level that looked like that in a 3d mario game. thankfully odyssey came out & scratched that itch for me.
Modern games can be amazing for this sort of thing, I agree. When I played Assassin's Creed Odyssey on release, I went to an area of the map called Makedonia. This place used to be particularly odd because there was nothing in it. As in, there weren't any objectives or map markers to check off, they gave you no reason to go there. Of course, there was a later DLC that added a couple things to it, but when it first launched, it was such an interestingly barren and sort of wild feeling location. And it was a huge chunk of land, too. You could get lost in the forests and not see a single waymark or sign of civilization.
Interesting thought, that older games are "chalked full of these" kinds of spots is the initial assessment for some. I can understand, for sure, but boy am I glad that you're finding the gems in the modern releases. Side note, we just got our son a Switch. It's my first time playing Nintendo since the GameCube. I cannot believe I've been missing out this long! Long live the Legend of Zelda!

I love this series, so much so now that im looking at things differently, and found some odd and unremarkable places myself in games like bloodborne and Elden RIng, so thanks for that, i can't unsee.
As a kid, I was forced to go skiing every year and I hated it. It was terrifying. At 5:16, when you drove off the course down the side of the snowy hill overlooking the mountains, I nearly had a panic attack. It gave me the exact feeling of nearly going off the designated sections of the ski slopes. Those places where if you lose control even a little bit you go off the edge of a cliff and probably die. Those places were always covered in the most fluffy, perfect, untouched snow.
This series is excellent! Playing games 'wrong' can really give some interesting insights or reveal odd and unremarkable things that add to the 'vibes'. Please do more of these

As far as racing games go, San Francisco Rush 2047 on the N64 would be a really good video for this seies. It has a some really interesting tracks with a bunch of shortcuts, little nooks and crannies, and weird interesting features
My favourite little place in Mario Kart 8 is in Shy Guy Falls, where if you slow down and watch them work, you also hear their voices chanting in time to the song. I love that little touch, and it's so fun watching the little guys just keep mining away, such industrious little fellas!

you can go "down there" on thwomp ruins actually, there's a fairly easy out of bound glitch that allows you to (even though i guess it's not much of interest for those videos since it's not somewhere you can normally go)

I've always hated how restrictive a lot of newish (I'm talking Xbox 360 & on) games are, especially when they put in unnecessary invisible walls or boundaries. The way you said it makes perfect sense to me: I paid for the game, let me go there. Going places in games that your not supposed to, breaking the illusion that the developers made, those are some of the best parts of games. That's why Halo 2's levels are so fun. They didn't have time to put the invisible walls in, so you could just break the whole game. It was great. Nevermind that that they were so overworked that some of them slept on cots in the office more than once, that's definitely not horrible. I'm sure they loved it. Also, there was a face on that moon, and it was very unsettling. Double also, Great video. Keep it up. PS: I found you through your Skyrim employment survey video and then immediately went back and started watching your old stuff. I've watched/listened to almost every episode of eggbusters, (loved the DVD commentaries btw, it was cool to see you reflect on your old work) a good portion of one time glitch, and 7 or 8 VG Whams over the past few weeks, and it's been really neat to see how you and your channel have changed. I never liked how, in this game, Lakitu won't even let you drive backwards without forcing you to turn around. I used to love exploring Mario Kart levels as a kid and that just ruined my fun.
Speaking of doing this with modern games, I bet you could find some odd and unremarkable places in Mario Odyssey as well. That place has some nice spaces

3:48 that reminds me of the background in Melee's Hyrule Temple. The jump back then from N64 to GameCube was mind blowing with the boost in details, and smash was no different. Going from basically one static background image in smash64 to actual backgrounds with 3d space to them hits different. I will admit this is not good looking, but it gives me that nostalgic/comforting feeling of squinting hard enough that there's SOMETHING out there.
I did this kind of thing a lot when I was a kid on my gamecube. I basically played dollhouse with most of my games and as an adult I have an eye for little spots that have that kinda empty, "useless" space vibes. Been playing a lot of WoW with its current expansion and there are still so many little spots where you can just stop and relax cause there's no quests in them, there's no one really running around in them because flying is a thing from the get go, so you can just kinda sit down and vibe.
One thing i want to point out about the electrodome view is that they bothered to make the moon realistically sized in the sky, when 90% of other games make the moon gigantic for the spectacle. But not here, the moon is nice and tiny in the sky
I think the monster hunter series has a lot of potential for odd spots. The old games have strange spots in large areas with huge skyboxes, little rooms that act a bit like hallways but encourage exploration, and the new games are so massive that a few little corners are oft forgot.
Okay not gonna lie that Electrodrome easter egg kinda blew my mind. Never noticed that and now my entire view of the track has been altered. Maybe that sounds a bit exaggerative but I do mean it.
I am so glad I found your channel again. It’s awesome. Your Eggbusters series was what I grew up on, spending countless hours trying to replicate glitches and whatnot on my Wii games. You were my Saturday morning cartoons. Can’t wait to binge everything you’ve put out in the decade since then lol.
I think it worked BETTER than the older games. I never had an "Oh my god" moment during the n64 episodes. Though I admit the term "Unremarkable" may no longer apply.
Kart games were always my favorite for this type of stuff. Diddy Kong Racing always had a ton of random nondescript areas you could just drive to and chill in when I was a kid
I have only played any Mario Kart game a few times in my life. I stayed over at my cousins' house just a few days ago and played this game forgetting I watched this already, and now it's cool to see that I can actually relate to the places for once

9:08 I call that moon the "Creepy Peach Moon" as if you look at it from a certain angle (tilted 90 degrees anti-clockwise in this case), it looks like a hollowed out Peach face. You can find it in many Booster Course Pass tracks (which you should also cover in this series).
The little boat on Toad Harbor is one that I thought should be added. It’s kind of hard to stay on, but if you’re able to it’s pretty obvious that you’re not supposed to stay there for longer than half a second. The textures are strange and low resolution, and it just has kind of a strange vibe, even though it’s in the middle of the track. I remember staying on that boat for battle mode on the Wii U version, and it being pretty effective at times
I had never considered the ecological consequences of Electrodome. The poor birds must be so confused by all those bright lights at night, totally mangling their diurnal cycles.
I watched the video while driving along in my own in Mario kart 8 😅 and through this it felt more like a walk (drive) through a museum. Which I really enjoyed. Thank you 🙏
My headcanon is that Sweet Sweet Mountain exists in Dinosaur Island, from Super Mario World, because in that game every level is named after after food.
Am I the only one who is in love with SNES Rainbow Road? I love the way the lights illuminate the drivers but the skybox and background look like a cold night, I don't how to describe it, I hope i'm not alone in this.
If I were to try and explain one of these videos to someone IRL, it would come off sounding like something terrible, low effort, and boring, but despite this, I've watched all of your videos in the last year, and almost immediately watch any new one as soon as it comes out, which is not the usual. I feel like racing games are one of the best genres for this. They always have weird spots that you're just supposed to blow past and never look twice at. Lego Racers has some good ones, and the little nub that you like on Thwomp Ruins reminds me of hiding from my friends in Kirby Air Ride City Trial.

There are youtubers who entire career is looking at weird little things in the Dark Souls series so I think there is plenty of room for this style video in modern games
You missed something interesting in Mount Wario; if you turn around after leaving the dam you’ll see this odd structure that you just came out of, and would never have seen otherwise
