UNSAFE BUS STOP is Nearly IMPOSSIBLE to Use

I am so excited to be able to share this overgrown transformation with you. I actually drove by this bus stop and had to make a U-turn because I just couldn't believe how overgrown this was. There is no yard, but there were trees and weeds growing in the cracks that reached over 8 feet tall and with trunks as thick as my fist! This is in the middle of town next to a major road, so you know traffic is going by quick! With your support we will be able to make this bus stop safe for the community to use again!

Right. Property lines r a certain number of feet from the roads center line. The city should be made to ck this. Property nvr starts where the sidewalk ends.

It would be scary to be standing waiting for a bus there! They need a safety barrier or maybe move the spot? Paint marking on the curb and a large slow down pedestrian sign on that pole! Thank you for doing this!

Look like the city would be responsible for weed cutting and keeping that from becoming a hazard to people but we all know how that story goes thanks for the service you did for the community looks great and the bus will be able to see people also the cars will also be able to see ❤❤

Derek, thank you so much. You are a great asset to your community. I don't understand why the prisons that are setting full of able-bodied people don't have inmates help the community on projects like this while they are incarcerated. They might be able to learn some skills, be productive, and give back to the community.

I am not sure either! I know this one could be too close to a school for that, but there are several places that it would be beneficial. I do know that inmates are able to cleanup trash on the highways so it would make sense to help here as well. Thank you 🙏 for your support I really appreciate it

Wow, your weeds get big. I thought they were small bushes! In Canada they don’t get a chance to grow that big because in winter the snow makes them go dormant. Nice job, once again. 😎

The scary part is the tree will go dormant, but those weeds are probably only 3-4 months old. There are 3-4 different species that will get easily 8 feet tall if they don’t get cut down. Thank you 🙏 so much for your continued support my friend!

You are very good at finding places that need work. That location very much so has poor visibility and little space to walk. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="413">6:53</a> shows a great deal of improvement already, a long view of the street now exists. Like that you are figuring out how to work in your city area. That is definitely close traffic, with only a little gutter as buffer for multi-lanes.

How is that a bus stop? My goodness! I bet folks try to avoid that spot at all costs. There are no benches, shelters or anything to protect the patrons waiting for the bus. Not to mention, it is overrun with shrubs and weeds. Thank you for taking the time to help the many you'll probably never meet and helping those that travel way out of their way to catch the bus and avoid that place. ❤

watching your vids I've noticed something - all the power poles seem to be blocking the sidewalks from people who use wheelchairs, walkers or scooter chairs, and there doesn't seem to be any leeway to put additional sidewalk in. How does the utility company and city get away with that?

Honestly now that I have been cleaning up sidewalks more I have noticed that as well. I am going to find out who I need to talk to because you are 💯 right! If you are in a wheelchair this bus stop is still unusable just because of the power lines.

Right these 🌲 were huge! Unfortunately there is a city code that makes it the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain 6 feet past the property line. They do issue fines but obviously this hasn’t been maintained all year. Thanks 🙏 for watching

@DereksLawnRescue I'm not sure, ɓut there may be a code violation. I've never seen a wooden fence against a city sidewalk. Even chain link fencing is set back from sidewalks.

Good Job. Get and use one of those fold up stands for your garbage bags. Always FACE oncoming traffic when working beside roads.

You need one of those mini chain saws. Inexpensive and really handy. Also, a couple of those orange cones might be useful.

lol yes those are called giant ragweed and they get huge here! I couldn’t believe how big they were in the cracks of the concrete

That is a crazy dangerous place to have to clean off a sidewalk. I couldn’t decide if I liked not being able to see the cars coming 🫣🫣🫣 or if I would have rather seen them coming. 😳😳😳I kept holding my breath. 🫢🫢🫢 Great job.

Unfortunately, the mayor and whomever else agreed to this made a big mistake when they implemented a city code that makes homeowners responsible for maintaining 6 feet past their property line. What I have noticed is the homeowner will get fined, and it will never be cleaned up. I am just glad that we are able to help make this place better than how we found it!

Wow. Good of you to show what responsible individuals can accomplish when they put their mind to act as compared to city officials who drop the ball. A shame they are unwilling to ensure the safety of people that navigate that stretch of the sidewalk, much less for appearance sake. You did a good thing and should be acknowledged for your efforts by the city counsel. They should be ashamed of themselves, but I highly doubt their pride will allow their conscience to surface.

I read recently that baking soda water, and vinegar water are both natural weed killers. Maybe experiment with them to see what works. Perhaps with a big woody stalk stump, you could drill out the center and fill it with one of them?

I will give it a try! I used a ground sterilizer to kill this one but if I can avoid harsh chemicals I would prefer that
