Remastered version of a long film captured all around Denmark in 1920.
"The beautiful Denmark, the country by the Sound and the Belt, - the smiling beaches, the bright forests, the lush farmland". A kaleidoscopic journey through Denmark. First, a tour of Copenhagen, including Tivoli Gardens, City Hall Square, the Marble Church, Amalienborg Palace, Dr. Louise's Bridge and the normal busy everyday life in the capital, as well as the nature in Dyrehaven just north of Copenhagen. From Zealand, you can see Stevns Klint with Gammel Højerup Church, the Goose Tower in Vordingborg, Fredensborg Castle, Nakkehoved Lighthouse in Gilleleje and Kronborg Castle. There is plenty of footage of beach life on the beaches of North Zealand and the rocky coast of Bornholm. On Funen you can see Christiansminde near Svendborg and the ferry to Tåsinge. From Jutland you can see The Silkeborg Lakes, Himmelbjerget, Aalborg, which is connected to Nørresundby by two bridges, Skagen with Holger Drachmann's grave, the west coast of Jutland (probably Thorup Strand and Bovbjerg), Esbjerg with its fishing port, Fanø, Ribe with its cathedral and old houses, Møgeltønder, Schackenborg Castle, Dybbøl and Sønderborg, Galgebakken and Brundlund Castle with the castle mill in Aabenraa, Gråsten Castle, Haderslev, Aarhus Cathedral, Koldinghus and the traffic hub Fredericia, which connects Funen and Jutland, and Vejle.
Vivid History is dedicated to restoring old black and white footage and creating high-quality colorized versions to give you an authentic and vivid experience of the past.

The buildings were more elaborate back then, and this adds to the beauty of the place. There is also much fewer cars and road signs, and it is wonderful to see how much more tranquil it appears as a result. We call modernity progress, and in many ways it is, but you could also argue there are plenty of ways in which it hasn’t been.

I'm happy that so many of those buildings still exist, and you can still ride Tivoli's classic rollercoaster "Den Gamle Rutsjebane" seen at 1:01. I've stood where those smiling people were waving at the rollercoaster from, and tried the ride several times, and the only distinctive change in that scene is how people are dressed. It creates a deep connection to the past, to think that we share many sights and attractions with people who were there over a hundred years ago. Times change, but some things didn't change much at all. Some things outlived people, and connected us over time. If that rollercoaster could transport me to the past to meet the people seen in this incredible restored footage, I'd be sure to have something experiential of Copenhagen in common with them.

Absolutely the best enhancement I have ever seen! Especially on a few segments that look to be from 1900. As if they were filmed yesterday! It not hard to see why sunny, southerly CopenHagen was admired by all Scandinavians. Without this film it would be impossible to imagine a city where horses worked in tandem with cars, trams and bicycles. No signs of half-starved, overworked horses that show up in similar vintage films from some other countries. I wonder if viewers fully understand how much work goes into getting these enhancements so realistic. It's not just a matter of apps and a few clicks. Out there somewhere on RU-vid is a spot that shows details of colorizing. If I understand it correctly, there's an easier way with one or two layers. But, the most realistic results come from applying more and more layers, with patience and a good eye for what's most natural. Of course all of this compilation predates the advent of sound, 1927. What has been added here is close to perfection: crashing waves, sounds of an outdoor market, birds singing in a park, the music of an amusement park ... yust every possible detail. Thank you again. Looking forward to every new instalment.

These fixes to old footage are utterly fantastic. They make history so much more relatable and tangible. Much better than the grainy, black and white, wrong speed films we used to watch. Everything is so much more human. I might often have thought that people had to squeeze into those suits and dresses reluctantly, or consider them uncomfortable, same with the beach wear, but nothing of the sort, people look so natural, (naturally lol), with real agency and character just like today (of course lol) but it was always missing from the old clips which removed you even further from the humanity of people in the past. These clips however bring it that back. I hope all the film ever shot pre 1930 for example, can get the same treatment in time and affirm that people of the past were literally exactly like us and dispel the idea latent in most people today that our tech advances somehow makes us superior humans with superior lifestyles. They don't. And what a great place to live, quaint idyllic towns, beautiful architecture, life at human pace, purposeful physical work, little tourism, little over crowding. Oh well.

Life had quality those days. Women were dressed so nicely. Everyone with his own bicycle was a king. Less vehicles on the road and more people. A small boat was faster than tram. People looked so happy. Younger and elderly both were fascinated by camera. Beautiful architecture and infrastructure.

0:26 Thorvaldsens Museum. Behind it is Christiansborg Slotskirke. 0:44 Holmens Kirke. Interesting there is no canal going next to that church anymore. In the background is 'Vor Frelsers Kirke' (The Church of Our Savior) 0:56 Tivoli Entrance 1:11 'Den Gamle Rutsjebane'(The old rollercoaster). Still exists today. 1:45 Magasin du Nord. Designed by Albert Jensen. To the left is the Royal Theater. 1:57 Marmorkirken 2:30 Amalienborg. The Queen's winter residence. In the middle of it is 'Rytterstatuen'(Rider statue). Considering these images the Royal Guards were a bit more relaxed back then. 2:46 Amalienborg. There are 4 buildings. One for the queen, one is a museum, one is a guest house, and one houses the Crown prince's family. 3:56 Christiansborg Castle. Total it is the workplace for the Danish Parliament, The Supreme Court, and Prime Ministry. 4:12 Børsen. Where the stock exchange used to be. The building is iconic for its spire that consists of three dragon tails. It has survived both major Copenhagen fires whilst all other buildings around has burned. 4:31 On the right is Skt.
