DEVO, a groundbreaking band, originated in Akron, Ohio, creating raw "Hardcore DEVO" music in basements and garages. In 2014, they performed rare pre-fame songs from 1974-1977 at the Fox Theater, Oakland, for 10 captivating shows. This concert film combines their early music and band history through interviews, offering a unique glimpse into their evolution before hits like "Whip It.

The real and tragic direction of De-evolution can be consoled slightly by the ridiculous and energetic goofiness I feel while Devo is at the helm. You guys have been my north star since my earliest memories. I am 55 now and have been a DJ, Devo gave me the directive to be different and create my own sound without caring about peoples reaction. Thank you.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I have begun to try to find the lyrics that seemed to be added here to U Got Me Bugged. I have been looking at the various lyrics resources online and the section that begins at about 01:14:20 seems to be a "new" section. By the time we get to 01:15:07 we're back to the familiar "Now I'm hopelessly entangled ... " and ends/rhymes with "strangled" (these lyrics appear online but earlier in song). Does anyone know what the seemingly new lyrics to that section are? I'm trying to find out - I think I'll also try to isolate the voice. That may help. I f'in' love this, btw - just found it tonight. I saw DEVO in Central Park in '04 which was beautiful and rocking and insane (they controlled the weather 🙂). I also saw them in ... 1980 (pretty sure that was the year ... memory ... so .. foggy ... )

Their best work was the hardcore Devo era. The first couple of records were pretty good, but for a band that was so critical of the mainstream, they ended up just joining it and fading out in the 80’s.
@peterwoodhouse4314
@peterwoodhouse4314 10 месяцев назад
Can't disagree. Many established guitar based or 'classic rock' acts who formed in the 1970s or earlier struggled to adapt to the synth drowned 80s. Neil Young (sued by his record company), Queen (which albums are better, Hot Space/Kind of Magic or ...Opera/Sheer Heart Attack?), even Zappa, etc. Devo adopted synths so early, by the 4th album they were becoming indistinguishable from every other bland New Romantic or synth pop band. Devo albums still better crafted than most of the era.
