Toyota denied allegations of the fault to avoid law suits. In fact, some of the cars we import into Kenya were declared unroadworthy in their countries of origin as a result. I tested it on a 2011 Toyota Fielder and it still has the issue. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, I suggest you do the following: 1. Keep calm, try not to panic. 2. Put on your hazards and sound your horn when necessary to warn drivers around you. 3. Throw the shifter into neutral. This will prevent further acceleration by preventing power transmission to the wheels. 4. Apply consistent and firm pressure on the brake pedal. DO NOT PUMP! Just steady consistent pressure. 5. The car should slow down, though not at the rate you want it to be. At this point, use your other foot to try and dislodge whatever is holding the accelerator down. 6. Steer onto a safe shoulder. If you haven't stopped yet, engage your parking brake slowly. Do not yank it rapidly as this will lock up your rear wheels causing you to fish-tail or roll. The car should be able to stop after all these steps.
Some few years back I was in similar situation between bellevue and the capital centre U-turn along Mombasa Road. My mat somehow was over the accelerator and going under the brake pedal, a mistake I suspected was done by the person who had cleaned my car the previous day. so every time I tried to brake as I approached the capital centre U-turn, the car would accelerate even more. Thank God I ended up removing my foot from the brake pedal and used the handbrake instead. Ever since, I am always careful with the way the mat is placed on the drivers area.
This True ,wakuru Be careful One Sunday I was cruising from uk 🇬🇧 to Scotland via Motor way called (M1). high way in uk are called Motor way I had a benz C-class, a cover looked like carpet hooked the accelerator pedal , won’t release it , pressed it maximum. Luckily, was a Sunday, Motor way had less cars , I managed to bend down, lifted that cover, released the pedal. Wakuru , I had said last prayers I thank God , that jet ✈️ speed was scaring. Be careful
This is what to do Wadau 1:Stay clam 2:Shift into Neutral in your automatic transmission, on you manual transmission use the clutch to pop it into neutral 3:Apply the breaks 4:But your hazards on 5:keep you eyes focused on the road 6:Steer you car off of the road 7:Turn off the car 8: Engage the emergency Brakes
Wow! What a sad story, thanks for this information mkuru. Moral lesson: KNOWLEDGE is information, UNDERSTANDING is comprehension and WISDOM is application.
One grave problem with us humans is that we never read the user manual of any product we buy, case in point, we only know the play, stop pause and skip buttons of a remote control. Other buttons are always there for beauty yet they have got functions. Let's learn to read the user manual because that's the manufacturer's mind.
I have finally watched the latest episode in this channel I made it my mission to watch from the first one I have no regrets at all thanks I now move to the movie
I subscribed six months ago and bingewatched everything you have ever appeared in online. It is thay serious. You are so right about Kenyans and littering. Park at any bus stage and count PK, candy, used condoms, water bottles na kale kakartasi ka kufunga mutura na mayai… man.
Happened to me in a parking lot, 2019. To this day the only explanation I have is that the floor mat somehow jammed the accelerator. Started driving forward, then suddenly the accelerator floored, car flew forward 20 meters, b4 I could process what was happening, I was stopped by a wall at probably 50 kph, I don't know. Missed 2 cars and a tree, airbags all deployed, car write off. Thankfully was alone, only injury was a high impact abrasion/burn on the arm (I believe from the explosive deployment of the airbag) that healed in a few days but left a scar as a reminder. Vital lesson, BELT UP as soon as you get in that seat, before you touch the ignition, same for your passengers, even in your own home or a parking lot. It could have been worse slamming into the steering or being thrown around unbelted, fractures etc, due to false safety of the parking lot. Sometimes we drive off and start belting up as we go, or just b4 turning into the 'main' road. That day the parking lot was my main road. My shoulder was bruised where the seat belt dug in on impact. Lesson 2, if your floor mats don't have velcro or hooks so they don't move, is the clean floor worth it? Get them secured. Sad story, but good to know it can happen. Other than putting gear in neutral na kupambana, tough, horrible situation. Thanks for the varied content.
It has happened to me like twice, at first i thought the car had a problem and i was to take it to the mechanic. Later nika realise accelerator ndio inakwama kwa mat.. luckily gari ni manual,so everytime it used to happen nilikuwa naweka neutral so no more acceleration
hahahahaaaa... that happened to me in 2008! I was in the phone talking to some fool...ngaiiiii... nilikanyaga accelerator instead of brake I flew like a chopper!!! ...nikaingia gari.ilikuwa imeparkiwa mahali! I flew up n hit down kama Bomb!! sikuongea for 5mins.... I thought i.was knocking on heavens door.. uweee... il never forget that.
Mkuru my car is Chevy na ni mzito sana that even when the speed is 160kph you don't realize and since I trust it I overtook believing to have gotten back to my lane before pickup approaches kumbe accelerator imekwama 🤔 ...the oncoming vehicle had to swing at the pavement and that is why am alive today because the oncoming was a miraa pick-up that could have crushed me once
If it's automatic you can disengage the gears to Neutral and adjust parking break, if manual reduce gears then you can apply the parking breaks slowly that is
Hii kitu ilitufanyikia na family pia maze...gari ilioverturn thank God tulitoka tukiwa safe kabisa ...i totally relate na hiyo kuaccelerate instead of braking
@Abel Mutua am a fan from Doha but since I started listening to you're stories have graduated to an air conditioner. Na request story moja ya John Kiriamiti please. Otherwise good job bro. Ningekuwa na walimu kama wewe Sai Ningekuwa surgeon walae ju siwezi sahau anything nafunzwa
YEAH true hadi mimi kuna tym apo westy waiyaki way so na drive na speed less like 30 then kidogo kajam so tym nakaribia gari iko mbele yangu need to slow down ikiwezekana ni simame juya jam weeee kumbe nili accelarate instead ya brakes gari iliruka asap uzuri nilikua rada ya brakes dindt crush watu nilikua nao kwa gari walikua zile za eeh budaa wasap mostly auto cars
@AbelMutua in our vehicles mostly china made vehicles or the vehicles from Asian origin, the Power Assistance Brake is what we refer to Automatic Braking System (ABS) that's what most of us know it as
I agree with that littering problem. People who litter missed a fundamental part in their growing up. I call out my friends and even strangers who litter. Tabia mbaya sana. Thanks Mkuru for highlighting this. Keep educating the masses
