I absolutely agree a long hauler based out of steam would solve a number of problems but i would go further and use a small battery to produce hydrogen onboard. and burn that to boil water.

Awesome video steam powered Chevelle..... I didn't see that one coming. That car would make an interesting cutaway / exploded view no pun intended drawing for sure. Most people I would assume would think that a boiler would be likely to explode I would have thought the same , until your video great work as always.

I will second the semi tractor steam idea. Unfortunately we all know that everyone including the gov't is so stuck on battery powered electric, it seems like no alternative is given a second thought. Also, there is a company out of so-cal called achates power that is developing a OP diesel that is better emissions, power, economy, and less parts than a standard 4 stroke diesel. It's a descendent of the junkers and fairbanks-morse engines and very promising. I imagine its being developed by a shoestring budget compared to EVs since the pace of development seems very slow. It's a shame really, I firmly believe that if the same money was poured into developing existing ICE further or other combustion related power sources for vehicles (like steam) we would have far more efficient vehicle power sources that don't use excessive amounts of exotic or dangerous materials and are easy to recycle at EOL. I also don't think people realize the scope of how big a change to battery powered EVs is at an infrastructure level is either. The sheer cost and not to mention the climate cost of building an entirely new infrastructure to support EVs at the levels needed to replace ICE vehicles would likely bankrupt many countries vs just using the existing petrol infrastructure.

I wish they would bring the land yachts back, with these alternative engines that require a large car anyway

I always enjoy Unsung Heroes episodes about cars with unorthodox engines especially. Speaking of unorthodox engines, I know you're not that interested in F1, but have you heard about how they're looking at research into efficient two stroke engines?

when some one tell me of steam engines, just bring me back to the Titanic and that past era of the industrial revolution but hey never knew General Motors tried again the old steam approach. Thats why i love this series. Is learning new things every episode (: Also what do you think of the EV1? the approach of GM to mass produce an electric car and later destroy them all. Even appeared one abandoned on Jalopnik and people were amazed it didnt get destroyed.
