Today, we’re moving on from artificial intelligence that needs training labels, called Supervised Learning, to Unsupervised Learning which is learning by finding patterns in the world. We’ll focus on the performing unsupervised clustering, specifically K-means clustering, and show you how we can extract meaningful patterns from data even when you don't know where those patterns are.
Crash Course AI is produced in association with PBS Digital Studios

How exactly does representation learning/reconstructing one picture allow an AI to see if two images are similar? The example provided only talked about reconstructing one image, and not comparing two. Also, why would a neural network need to reconstruct an image when the original image pixels' data is already there? (I'm really new to AI, and I've enjoyed this series so far! I'm just a little confused about this one. Many thanks to anyone who can help!)

Hugely informative... but I think we’d do well by having a primer of sorts. For example, the tools to use to explore machine learning, some rudimentary or introductory tasks to get going. Theory is important, yes, but it only goes so far. Learners need to have an example of _something_ to mimic.

Heres a quick one for you. What if we build it so it has no dependance on air? How do you block a concept, keep it blocked from itself? Like how to hard code something even if it breaks the basic ruless of physics and pose it as truth, when in fact it means something it should mean at the moment it was meant? This is a lot of work. I dont think our tradicional computer is able to do this. We gotta make our cpu in 3D. Use lightning to stamp them.

But even the human brain isn’t trained with pure unsupervised or supervised learning. Various feedback mechanisms provide a type of supervision? Such as pain in the case of not touching a hot stove or a parent telling a child not to touch the hot stove. That being said this series does provide a good overview of the current state of the art in AI
@vvhitevvabbit6479
@vvhitevvabbit6479 4 года назад
Environmental feedback isn't the same a supervision. In unsupervised learning, the AI decides what is good and what is bad based on signals which it interprets on its own. For example your dad might tell you to stay off the roof because falling is dangerous, so you take the hint and avoid the danger (supervised). On the other hand, plenty of people love sky diving or base jumping. They know what conditions make falling safe; equipment, technique, timing, weather conditions, etc. They determined this on their own. (Unsupervised). This allows the machine to learn things that it's 'supervisor' may not know or even understand. I mean, my grandma once told me that the internet is dangerous and i shouldn't be on it, but she didn't understand all the variables. I'm glad I never followed that 'supervision'.

My first brush with machine learning was when I played Black & White. I have it installed on my computer still. Imagine if they made a modern version with even better AI or AI with more processing power. Or imagine a creature challenged to complicated tasks and taught by a streaming community on how to solve them.

I find it interesting that at one point Jabrils points out that the human brain is specially designed for this kind of learning, but then goes on to say that the structures and patterns were developed through billions of years of evolution. Design and evolution don't work hand in hand. Patterns don't develop from evolutionary change. The patterns like our brains were designed in the universe.

don’t get me wrong i see the distinction trying to be made but unsupervised learning still runs on an algorithm, does it not…and does not actually determine which criteria it should use to find the patterns on its own…

By supervised learning do you mean programming? Conditioning? Training? Alligning? Or reforming the student? True learning should always begin with learning the simplicity of truth itself...ie: that bieng the only thing one can truly know is that they truly know nothing really.
