Wait, wait, lemme guess: it’s either gonna be about trauma or identity! I don’t know how that’s gonna work with Ant-Man... ......no, wait, considering the way prison system is set up to destroy a person’s sense of identity, and how they’re externally identified as an ex-con for the rest of their lives after release (in a way that impacts almost every other aspect of their world), that totally fits. Seriously, looking at Ant-Man as a study of how privilege, family, and the criminal justice system all intersect would be fascinating. I rescind my snark.

I hope this video helps everyone understand Christine’s role in the movie. Everyone keeps calling her a “wasted love interest” when the movie explicitly shows she is NOT in love with Strange. His assumption she does is a product of his ego problems. When he realizes he’s lost her, he loses his last connection to his old life. He is no longer Steven Strange when when he walks away from her. He’s the Sorcerer Supreme.

i wouldn't mind seeing her in "doctor strange in the multiverse of madness" as long as she becomes a regular in the MCU hoping to be a wizard herself and become one of several night nurses and hopefully appear in "thor: love and thunder".

Really great video and I think that this film is often overlooked. However, a small nitpick: It was confirmed by the director that Doctor Strange died several MILLION times before Dormammu relented, not hundreds. I only share this because it makes Strange several million times more awesome.

Finally! I've been waiting for this! When I hear "leave yourself to become yourself," it makes me think about how the Doctor Strange in the comics rejects the material world and his old life because as a sorcerer, he is healed in his new genuine meaning of life and his intellegent mind reached its true potential. He doesn't want to be tempted into arrogance again. He wants to maintain his heroic identity. He seems to struggle with this when demons try to entice him.
@knightrostark3052
@knightrostark3052 4 года назад
Honestly, Doctor Strange became a much more interesting character once he finally was actualized as the Scorcerer Supreme. He always seems to be at his best when he's working off another well-developed character. His scense with Thor are hilarious and provide a good comedic contrast and his scenes with Tony provide entertaining back and forths between two similar attitudes but have differing motivations. I'm excited to see what his dynamic with Wanda will be because I think Doctor Strange 2 will be as much HIS movie as it is Wanda's movie as well. Plus, having an arch nemises like Mordo will certaintly make for a great prolonged conflict that will be similar to T'Challa and Killmonger. Mordo started out on Strange's side since both of them wants what's best for the World of Magic, but their ideological differences have led them to opposing sides. I hope Strange and Mordo will become something of a new Professor X and Magneto type of dynamic.

To be honest, stranges representation in HIS movie was a masterpiece because of how relatable he was. What the MCU is failing to do with strange is take advantage what that film succeeded in. I pray they achieve this again in his new film. If you feel the same let me know.

Another excellent essay and a very interesting take on the character's journey. It's really interesting to see what can be achieved with relatively little screen time in a film series as expansive as the MCU has become. Strange comes off as a bit of a deus ex machina in Infinity War/Endgame (and he is that, let's be honest) but the universe is so well structured that he can ALSO still have a character arc! Who'd have thunk? (Not me, my mind is currently blown, lol) Thank you for continuing to put out such great and thought-provoking content! Seeing one of your videos come up always brightens my day.

*The Wizard and the rat.* Dr Strange doesn’t know anything about the rat (who saves the Universe). He sees his possible futures - by living it. He does not see the rat. He is *dead* when that occurs. He experiences a pocket in time - a time loop - where he fights Thanos and is defeated 14 million 604 times. In only 1 instance do the Avengers ‘defeat’ Thanos - to the extent that they have actually defeated him, and which is debatable. There are many things Dr. Strange knows and does to help make this happen - but *he does not know even at the end* how it will play out. *If I tell you what happens, it won’t happen.* This is another way of saying that Strange does not know, and in the end must place his faith in Stark. And Stark cannot know either, but must act out of free will to choose. His action is selfless - his soul stone sacrifice is to sacrifice *himself.* This is *intelligent* storytelling. Like a Greek myth, a Bible story, or Shakespearean drama. And that’s why it spawns so many excellent video essays. 😎
