So ist es! ....und wenn unser Troll Gerüchte verbreiten möchte von wegen "Yuja is bored", sollte man dieses Geschwätz nicht ernst nehmen. Wie üblich hat er wieder mal aus dem Zusammenhang gerissen "zitiert", und zwar aus einem sehr interessanten Interview, indem sie erwähnt, evtl. ein Baby zu bekommen. Normal für eine junge Frau ihres Alters. Und dass sie evtl. mit 35 Jahren aufhört, ist eine ironisch gemeinte Idee von ihr. Natürlich überlegt sie sich, andere Dinge zu tun, Klavierspielen allein ist auf Dauer nicht fordernd genug für ihr Talent, ausserdem hat sie die internationale Spitze der Pianisten erreicht und ist unangefochten die Nummer 1. Mit dem Gedanken an's Dirigieren spielt sie schon lange, hat sie doch vor zwei Jahren Beethoven 1 und 2 derart phänomenal vom Klavier aus geleitet, dass alle Kritiken übereinstimmend davon sprachen, die vielleicht erste adäquate Interpretation dieser Stücke gehört zu haben. Liszt hörte ungefähr in ihrem Alter auf, "jeden Abend diesen Affenzirkus am Klavier zu veranstalten".....wie sie war er einfach zu gut, nur Klavier zu spielen....

And if they're going to dub it they shouldn't have the speaker's voice audible as well. If you see a movie dubbed in German you don't hear Brad Pitt speaking English underneath it. The two languages going at the same time make it hard to understand either one.

Yuja does exist in everyday life. And happens to have been lucky in that as a child her gifts were recognised. That changed everything. But ordinary? I think not. Gifts recognised or not. She'd have shone brightly somehow.

Doch, das kann sie besonder gut, andere aus ihrer Gilde sind da nicht so flexibel - gerade auf einem eher schmalbrüstigen Instrument (Yamaha G2J...) zeigt sich der wahre Meister bzw. die Meisterin, da muss auch Yuja schon erheblich mehr "arbeiten" um technisch und klanglich etwas aus dem schwachen Schumann-Stück herauszuholen, aber sie macht das mit ihrem grenzenlosen Talent selbstverständlich mühelos. Ein opulenter Steinway-D gibt da mit wesentlich weniger Aufwand einfach mehr her, aber das ist ja nicht das Thema...

Yuja Wang Plays Dazed Chaos, Then 7 Encores By Zachary Woolfe May 18, 2018 The usual praise for a musician who plays a recital in a big hall is that he or she makes that big hall feel small. But on Thursday, the pianist Yuja Wang made Carnegie Hall seem even vaster than normal: big, empty, lonely. Through her concert’s uncompromisingly grim first half and its wary, stunned second, Ms. Wang charted wholly dark, private emotions. She was in no way hostile toward an adoring (if slightly disoriented) audience, but neither did she seem at all interested in seducing it. After the playbills had been printed, Ms. Wang - who will have a Perspectives series at Carnegie next season - revised her program. She subtracted two of the four Rachmaninoff preludes she’d planned to give before intermission and added an extra three of his later, even less scrutable Études-Tableaux. Ms. Wang played none of these pieces in a way that made them seem grounded or orderly; she even seemed to want to run the seven together in an unbroken, heady minor-key span, a choice that most - but not enough - of the audience respected by not clapping in between. Even divided by light applause, these pieces blurred into and stretched toward one another. Doing nothing that felt exaggerated or overwrought, Ms. Wang emphasized unsettled harmonies and de-emphasized melodic integrity. The Étude-Tableau, in E-flat Minor (Op. 33, No. 6) wasn’t the juxtaposition of one hand’s abstraction and the other’s clear etching. No, she was telling two surreal tales at once. The martial opening of the Prelude in G Minor (Op. 23, No. 5) swiftly unraveled into something woozy and bewildering. The washes of sound in the Étude-Tableau in C Minor (Op. 39, No. 1) were set alongside insectlike fingerwork - neurotic, insistent, claustrophobic. ... Her bending of the line in the Étude-Tableau in B Minor (Op. 39, No. 4) felt like the turning of a widening gyre, infusing the evocation of aristocratic nostalgia with anxiety. (Rachmaninoff composed most of the works Ms. Wang played as World War I loomed and unfolded, and the 19th century finally ended.) The stretched-out, washed-out quality of melancholy in her account of the Étude-Tableau in C Minor (Op. 33, No. 3), made that sorrow seem more like resignation: The loneliness she depicted felt familiar to her, even comfortable. The prevailing mood - dreamlike sadness; a feeling of being lost; rushing through darkness - continued in what followed. The relentless trills and tremolos of Scriabin’s Sonata No. 10 - which is sometimes played lusciously but was here diffuse and gauzy - glittered angrily. Three Ligeti etudes from the 1980s and ’90s proved that Rachmaninoff and Scriabin, as she presented them, were presentiments of the modernism of the distant future. There was the sense that more time than just 20 minutes - decades, perhaps - had elapsed during intermission, after which Ms. Wang played Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 8, composed during World War II. Here, playing with guarded poise, Ms. Wang seemed to inhabit a kind of aftermath of the dazed chaos she had depicted in the early-20th-century works on the first half. The contours were sharper now, the colors brighter and bolder. The effect was still unnerving. I considered whether Ms. Wang’s flamboyant clothes - in the first half, a floor-length purple gown with only a slash of sparkle covering her breasts; in the second, a tiny iridescent turquoise dress with vertiginous heels - were the right costume here. They did give the impression that she had arrived alone, a disconcerting combination of powerful and vulnerable, at a not particularly appealing party. In that sense they were a fitting complement to her ominous vision of this music. Likewise, it seemed at first that a few of her seven - yes, seven - encores jarred with the forlorn mood she’d built up. Vladimir Horowitz’s “Carmen” fantasia, an Art Tatum stride version of “Tea for Two,” a demented arrangement of Mozart’s “Rondo alla Turca” - all were blazingly performed but had a touch of cheerful kitsch about them. But perhaps they, too, were of a piece with the intoxication that permeated the recital. ... And by the end, as she followed the “Mélodie” from Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” with Schubert’s “Gretchen am Spinnrade,” Ms. Wang finally seemed to have found a measure of real, hard-earned peace.

Juni 2016 Ort Philharmonie Berlin Yuja Wang hat eine beeindruckende Anschlagskultur. Sie kann mit einer unglaublichen Farbpalette in Pastelltönen Klaviertöne so miteinander verbinden, dass man von Ton zu Ton überhaupt keinen Übergang mehr zu spüren vermeint und es nur noch leuchtet und schimmert. Andererseits hat sie eine beneidenswerte Technik, die es ihr ermöglicht, Werke etwa von Chopin, Rachmaninow, Tschaikowsky oder Prokofjew mit Brillanz und Kraft anzugehen. >Chopin statt Brahms< Warum sie nun in ihrem aktuellen Programm unbedingt Brahms, Schumann und Beethoven miteinander verbindet, bleibt unverständlich. Die ersten beiden der Balladen op. 10 von Johannes Brahms klingen mehr nach Chopin, mit Farbtönen zwischen matt glänzend und brillant prickelnd. Dabei erzählt Brahms hier ganz andere Dinge. Die erste bezieht sich ausdrücklich auf eine schottische Schauerballade, in der literweise Blut fließt. Aber wo bei Brahms Vollgriffigkeit Verdichtung bedeutet, zeigt sich bei Yuja Wang nur eine Tigerpranke in Liszt-Manier. >Kreisleriana diplomatisch< In seinem Klavierzyklus „Kreisleriana“ nimmt Robert Schumann Bezug auf die Figur des Kapellmeisters Kreisler, wie ihn E.T.A. Hoffmann erfunden hat - ein Prototyp der Romantik in einer Mischung aus Satire, Karikatur. Kaum unterscheidbar, was Realität, was Phantasie und was Wahnsinn ist. Bei Yuja Wang bekommt die Musik fast etwas Niedliches, auf jeden Fall etwas Nettes, Höfliches, diplomatisch Unverfängliches. Und immer dort, wo es etwas virtuoser wird, langt die Pianistin auch mal kräftig zu. Technisch stellt sie das vor keine großen Herausforderungen. Aber letztlich ist das alles genau das Gegenteil dessen, was Schumann intendiert hat: eine Freiheit in der Form, ein Ausloten von Grenzbereichen. Dagegen war es bei Yuja Wang leider nur nichtssagend und langweilig. Nicht wenige Pianisten müssen sich Ludwig van Beethovens "Hammerklaviersonate" versagen, weil sie das Werk technisch nicht bewältigen. Das immerhin muss Yuja Wang nicht verunsichern: Selbst die ärgsten Triller und Sprünge greift sie sicher. Sie spielt es wie eine leichte Fingerübung, oft messerscharf klar. Leider kommt sie musikalisch kaum darüber hinaus. Der langsame Satz, der zum Tiefgründigsten gehört, was jemals in der Musik erfunden worden ist, zeigt sich allenfalls als Mischung aus Chopin und Rachmaninow, das aberwitzige Finale ist hier ruppig wie eine Prokofjew-Sonate. Aber dass Beethoven vor knapp zwei Jahrhunderten eines der radikalsten Klavierwerke überhaupt geschaffen hat, an dem man bis heute zu knabbern hat - auf diese Idee konnte man hier nicht kommen. Und wenn am Ende angesichts dieses "8 000ers" der Klavierliteratur nur der Eindruck von sehr vielen Tönen bleibt, ist das erbärmlich wenig. Bei den Zugaben hat sie dann immerhin noch zeigen können, was ihr wirklich liegt, wenn sie etwa die "Carmen"-Fantasie von Wladimir Horowitz, die von technischen Schwierigkeiten nur so strotzt, hinlegt, als sei es nichts. Auch - oder: gerade - nach zwei Jahren stimmen Ihre Aussagen völlig. Die Pin-up-Pianisten wie Lang-Lang und YW bedienen Optik und äußere Effekte für eine bestimmte Art des Publikums. Wang macht parallel eine Karriere, indem sie die Bühne als Laufsteg benutzt und ihren halbnackt dargebotenen Körper von Hunderten feiern lässt. - Demgegenüber gibt es ein Publikum, dass Konzerte z.B. von G. Sokolov besucht, eben weil er Musik um der Musik willen macht. Möge er noch lange spielen. Even - or: especially - after two years, your statements are completely true. The pin-up pianists like Lang-Lang and YW serve optics and external effects for a certain kind of audience. felixhartmann, nicht zu fassen wie herablassend und arrogant hier ein Mensch degradiert wird. Bei Yuja Wang geht es ausschließlich um die Musik, und gegen sachliche Kritik ist auch nichts einzuwenden. Einen Menschen, den man nicht kennt, als seelenlos zu bezeichnen, zeugt nicht nur von schlechtem Geschmack sondern auch von sehr schlechten Manieren und einer ekelhaften Hochnäsigkeit. Oder aber von einem nicht vorhandenen Musikgehör. Ich jedenfalls bin heilfroh, dass durch diese absolute Künstlerin dieser alte Mief, der verstaubte betonköpfige Mief des Klassikbetriebes endlich eine wunderbare, absolut nötige Erfrischung erfährt. Und das hat wahrlich nichts mit Sex zu tun (nur in der Phantasie von so manchem Schreiberling hier). Es ist reinste Ästhetik. Im fortgeschrittenen (?) 21. Jahrhundert so einer Künstlerin die Seele abzusprechen, nur weil sie sich elegant und auf ihre Erscheinung passend kleidet, wie armselig ist das denn. Ohren auf, Vorurteile abstreifen, eigene Grenzen vielleicht mal überdenken und bemerken, dass die Welt nicht stehenbleibt, etwas Toleranz einer Frau gegenüber mitbringen, die ihr ganzes Leben nichts anderes macht als Musik zu verinnerlichen und, nebenbei bemerkt, die Komponisten verehrt wie kaum jemand anderes. Ich bin jetzt 71 und ich sehe hier keinen Sex, sondern höre Musik von einer absoluten Ausnahmekünstlerin, bei der die Ästhetik der Erscheinung und die Schönheit der Musik eine Einheit bilden. Erfrischend allemal.
