I really wish they kept some of the interactions, especially when Joker is trying to remind his friends of the situation. They made their confusion and struggle to recall the truth that much more realistic.

Yeah, a bit more conflict would have made this whole section much more impactfull. Specially since in my case the only reason I was opposing Maruki was for Sumire. I'd have felt awfull if everyone had hated me for trying to break them out of their perfect reality, even if it was for just a moment.
To be honest, with these conversations their apologies later on would make so much more sense to me. The conversations they used in the actual game instead were a bit too vague.
Agreed, it especially makes sense when they regain their memories. Although the cut 3rd awakenings feel very... contradictory especially to Strikers which I'm assuming is why these events were changed so late.
Seeing the phantom thieves get hostile with Joker is really interesting. It makes you feel like they're tearing away some kind of facade right in front of you. It even makes them feel real since they're not displaying the "we'll follow your lead, Joker" mentality.
It’s a mystery why these are unused. All their response more realistic than the ones used. They’re feeling offended that the MC is questioning their happiness. Plus them being angry at the MC isn’t something you don’t see in the game.
It also makes more sense why they are all so apologetic in their persona upgrade scene. In the game proper, they just are stuck in the illusion and vaguely confused why Joker is being vaguely weird with them. That always bugged me, and this makes a lot more sense with those scenes in mind.
also, a third or more of these lines are still used in the actual game, but only like two of them are voiced when there are all of these to work with. not even the flashback lines which are all voiced earlier on in the game anyway.
game day space maybe? story is set to only go a set amount of days and having to chase every last one of these people down would really drag things out, likely beyond the point of "this is a little slow but still fine"
i feel like why they cut is, bc the option of word from joker here might be too forceful how the way they response i like in the game that seem to understand it themself by joker not try to focre them to remember thing and this reality we suppose to hesitate to waking them from this happiness that why they cut it bc it feel one way of choice from joker perspective
I WISH they included this in the game. I found it a little weird that they painted Joker’s friends as the unreasonable ones and Joker portrayed as patient with no voice clips involved. It makes them more humanized, of course they would want happiness who doesn’t? It shows the dialogue as extremely natural. I also like how in this context with the voice clips it paints at Joker’s selfishness when he has to choose whether he should accept the reality with Akechi alive or go back to reality with him dead that Marino proposed. It would make him a hypocrite if he kept Akechi alive and had everyone live in bliss. It tugs at everyone’s character and selfishness at striving and keeping the fake happiness that Maruki provided them.
Keeping this reality for the sole reason to keep Akechi alive would be a back hand to Akechi, he knows he should be dead and Is furious that he was brought back because It was part of someone's Ideal reality, sure Joker might want to keep Akechi alive but when you look at the whole thing Joker would have more reason to keep this reality for the sake of his friends than Akechi for the fact that they are happy, meanwhile Akechi wants to tear this fake reality down, he can vocalize It himself without any doubt because he knows what happens when It *does* go
They didn’t want to make it too complex cuz they’re trying to make the player choose the “right” decision. It’s also why they didn’t explain Maruki’s plan well.
Just finished watching Morgana, Ryuuji and Ann's unused dialogues, and I already feel more tension between Joker and his friends. People already said they were being butts for ditching him in the third semester while he was so patient, but this one felt more genuine. Like, instead of Joker being so patient and say he will believe and wait for them, he's desperate to have those friends he did make a bond to come back to their senses and remember what they were all fighting for. Friends he made during his probation for a crime he was falsely accused of, and friends who believe in him. And said friends doing actual arguements of how much happier they are, to the point aggressively defending it and going against Joker because they think he's in the wrong and the one trying to make them miserable on what they always wanted, when they expect 100% support from him since he's the one who helped them through their issues during their Confidant events (which is obviously forgotten). Instead of what we got in Royal where they all just go confused, remember a bit and awkwardly walk away. TBH, if all these unused dialogues were used instead of what we got, their Third Awakening would have felt more genuine (bonus on rubbing it in their faces that Joker teamed up with Akechi while all his friends went off in their happy reality, because despite being with him for a year, they all ditched him and Joker's assassin was the one who teamed up with him). EDIT: Just finished the video and wanted to add the options for the BAD ENDING on the Palace's second visit would have made more sense as Joker can be torn from giving his friends a rude awakening or stay with them because other than them yelling at him for telling them off, but also want them to be happy in the end and might as well go with it. TL;DR: This one actually shows a bit of Joker's desperation for his friends and have an actual fight with them instead of how passive it went in Royal.
While I do agree with you that it probably would've been better to have there be more tension during these scenes in the final game, I think this was was just a bit too much. When I was playing through this part it was quite painful for me because I knew that everything in their false lives made them happy, but I knew that it was wrong and it took away a lot of the growth they went through. In the final game it felt more conflicting which I think they really needed to build up the choice you make whether to let them be happy in their fake lives or turn reality back to normal. I didn't see this as his friends ditching him, more like they were too happy to notice that they had drifted apart and that there were huge gaps in their memories, like Ryuji's when he couldn't remember how they had met. I think this version it makes the choice seem too obvious, which it still is because the game clearly labels the fake reality as the bad option from the start, but having it play out where Joker is patient and let's them decide the truth for themselves is more impactful when choosing the final decision. This one feels a bit more like an "I'm right and you're wrong" argument and just seems too harsh. I do agree that they could've made Joker seem less passive during these scenes and that everyone probably should've reacted a bit more aggressively when their happiness was questioned. The player dialogue options aren't there so I can't determine for certain what Joker was supposed to be saying. You do make a really good point though. There was definitely something missing from these scenes and it wasn't just the voice acting.
I really wish they’d kept this in. We don’t know what the protag says in these arguments, but regardless it shows off the eerie side of Maruki’s reality The fact that 7 different people all end up reacting the exact same way to Joker pushing their buttons (Why don’t you want me to be happy?/I’m happy like this./I’m happy just how things are./etc) goes to show that Maruki has his tendrils in their subconscious. A manipulative phrase like “Don’t you want me to be happy?” is awkward coming out of your friend’s mouths, but it matches and fits perfectly in Maruki’s.
@@NeroV1L3 No one would realistically "come to their senses" in an ideal reality unless they were forced to. The small amount of conflict here would have been a welcome change, as Joker was quite literally making it a point to ruin their happiness in favor of the original reality. He's even telling Haru "It's wrong" she is enjoying time with her (originally dead) father. If anything, the PT should have given Joker far more resistance.

Not that difficult to see, Atlus probably saw this as too much so they cut it out, that or they didn't have time to put it in, either way it's perfectly fine the way it is
Having romanced Haru, seeing her dad be like "is he your booooyfriend?" made me feel like, "oh shit he knows" Then Haru denied it and I was like "wait Haru no"
he’s my favorite character because of how he acts in the third semester. i always have a hard time denying the new reality because of how amazing of a dad he is.

Thinking he would still end the conversation with "I'll be waiting"/"See you later" but he likely would push more on the facts of what happened/reality is wrong rather than dancing around it vaugely.

Futaba’s broke me the voice acting was insanely awesome making me feel like i was actually hurting her even though the main character is the one saying whatever he’s saying
I like this. It feels so emotional from the voice acting. When they try to defend their happiness and they're happy with the way they're living, they really nailed it with the VA
Even aside from these being voiced, I kinda prefer how these are written compared to how it was in the final game. Ren’s approach to snapping them out of it feels more personal, not just saying “I’ll be waiting for you” and leaving. (Based on how the characters respond to him at least)
Oh, man the Futaba one killed me. The poor kid deserves happiness more than anyone else in this game. That "why are you being so mean to me" sounded so genuine it really caught me
I really like the idea of them actually getting mad and lashing out, but i also understand why they changed it to what it did. It turns into a whole weird scene in front of everyone who isnt involved. And even though his friends de-escalate the situation i think its more in character for joker both as an innate character trait and as a thief to be more subtle. I mean it's through subtleties in what he gradually tells his confidants over time that lets them empower and better themselves (mementos requests not withstanding). Plus I'd like to believe he'd be considerate enough about his friends' feelings, however misguided, to not rip off the bandage like that and let them do the rest themselves. As vague and non-escalating as it is in comparison, i still think the version they put in the game fits nicer overall.
Joker's characterization is a lot more subtle than his predecessors, so the final version being more in line with that fits overall. Time may be why these were cut.
I do wish that at least a couple of these lines were in the game though. Like with Futaba how Wakaba and Sojiro head home and Futaba says that she might have to call him Dad someday
It’s interesting how Morgana and Ryuji were the first to apologize for getting upset. It’s also interesting how out of all of them Haru was probably the quickest to become upset with Joker
For some of the cut content, I was able to understand why, but this cut, it truly baffles me. Also Makoto's awakening really depressed me, I don't know if it's the most depressing to me, but it's definitely up there.
On the subject of Maruki's reality, something that I've wondered for a while is if Yu Narukami (and possibly other members of the Investigation Team) were affected as well. By my estimation, Yu would be 21-22 years old during the events of the 3rd semester, so it's likely that he's attending a university in Tokyo, possibly with Yosuke as a roommate. Considering that his Persona is a manifestation of a desire to seek the truth, I feel like he would be very much at odds with this new reality.
Honestly I wonder too. We technically have several previous Persona users either most likely in Tokyo (like Yu and Yosuke) or have a possibility to be in Tokyo (like Rise and Mitsuru). I feel like the 3rd semester would have alerted them something is wrong. Or maybe they knew what was going on with Mementos but saw the new generation was there and just shadowed them??
These responses (and probably the difference dialogue choices that were intended for it) make SO much more sense than the ones in the game the actual ones are so vague and polite. It's weird. This is more direct and emotional
this one is so much better. it makes you realize WHY maruki's world isn't good. in my first playthrough, while i picked to deny it and that it was the right choice, i couldn't verbalize why it was. with the flashbacks, next to their aggressiveness, you realize that yeah, they're running from all their progress. they're doing what they looked down on through every arc. it's a happy ending, but it isn't the truth. at the end, they all move to pursue their dreams unlike vanilla. nothing in life will go the way you want, but that doesn't mean you can be miserable about it. they get their happy ending on their own. also the voice acting!! i love matt mercer. anywhore
I think these should’ve been left in, but what I especially like is how the other background characters like Sae get upset too because it’s their happiness as well. This definitely would’ve made Joker’s decision to accept Maruki’s reality a lot more loaded
@@IceBr8kr not only that, it might affect the past and future Persona users to some extent, though they won't know it for now. Sometimes, consequences of the past gen kind of affect the next gen as seen in Arena. The Shadow/Cognition research traced back in 3 not only caused some hardship to the SEES, it also affected the Inaba Investigation Team as the renaments were causing trouble post trail.
Wow this dialogue is alot better than the one that's actually in the game I would love to have this and these are perfect sense this is what the 3rd semester should have been sense its supposed to make you show emotion from other than just a scene or 2
Were these voiced in Japanese, and if so, did they make it into the final game? If the Japanese dub lacks these voices, they probably recorded them in English but Atlus didn't use them for consistency :(
I get what everyone here in the comments are saying but I think i'm more disappointed at the fact that these events ended up not being voiced at all. I mean, these events feel and are so important that it's just so weird for them to not be voiced. Plus, it'd be heartwrenching to hear Okumura's voice again in this context.

I really wish that they kept this because I feel like the characters feel just as appalled as you did when you first found out that reality was fake. It also shows how much they wanted this reality, but they're also letting go of the fact that everything that they've done for the reality that they fought for had been undone making them no better than the general public or even their past selves who were purely under the control of someone else despite their want to show the truth about the "sh*tty adults" who've been pulling the strings of the public. Furthermore, it gets you the player to question whether you're doing the right thing or not seeing that they end up yelling at you.
I wish they hadn't deleted these scenes. Each one had a heartfelt apology which seemed so confusing since the "denials" seemed so tame. With the full voices, this makes much more sense.
Man, I wish these were in the actual game. The voices make those lines hit so much harder, I actually kind of feel sad at how in denial they are. I can guarantee I would have felt more conflicted in the game if I heard them like this instead of just reading it. It would have made the impact for when they finally come around so much more emotional too. I love this part of the game narrative wise, but having these voiced add so much more weight to the characters. I'm kind of disappointed now that I know what could have been :/
I know you had some spots for "Player Dialogue could be here" but the way the voice clips work, it really feels like there was meant to be more than just the ones you have. When they lash out at you, it's like they're responding to something you're saying
Honestly, they should've used these events - since this shows the conflict more between the characters and reality, and as such feels more realistic. Within the game, we just have Joker talking to the other thieves and their flashback's triggered by said person mentioning something from the real part of their life. This version actually shows the PTs claiming that Joker's trying to destroy their dreams before their realisation
I really enjoyed these clips, I always found it a little to easy on the game, here we see joker truly fighting for them and it's their choice to follow joker in the game it felt like joker just didn't care. And with a huge choice for them I always found it to simple, these clips add a lot of flavor and make it a true struggle
*How it was in game:* Friends: What do you mean? Of course I'm happy. I'm happy... right? Urg, I gotta think about this. *How it could've been:* Friends: Dude, what the hell is your problem?! I'm perfectly happy here! I have my dream job, my dream family, my dream life! Is it so wrong of me to enjoy that?! Where the hell do you get off telling me how to live my life?! You don't do that to your best friend! What more do you want from me?! Ren/Akira: I want my friends back.
Hmm I've noticed that all of these tend to be longer that the actual scenes in the game, guess that's why they weren't added, to make these scenes shorter, and ig seeing their pain when you bring up the actual reality seems a bit unnecessary for the final game
whats interesting to me is that these lines were in some of the japanese trailers, so they got to a pretty late stage in development before swapping them out for what was actually in game
Agreed and more than that the later scene with the gang meeting up at LeBlanc seems to suggest these interactions are the ones they remember. Makoto’s in particular sounds especially painful.
There should have at least been dialogue options to trigger these interactions since they were already recorded. I likely would've picked them being that I'm more of a confrontative personality myself, so this would have allowed the player more choice instead of Ye Olde Atlus "Let's give the player two options that are basically identical, almost killing the point of having the dialogue choices in the first place!!! XD"
I'm honestly surprised Maruki even added a cherry on top which is Morgana in a human form, like he was "Oh yeah, you wished you were human right? Here's a human body for you to enjoy in the idealized reality, have fun."
Which really makes you wonder, despite the fact he constantly mentions his financial struggles, *_Joker refuses to help him, despite the veritable money printing scheme the metaverse is, with Joker making so much he can afford to eat out every single night, while Yusuke goes hungry, even though just a tenth amount cut of loot would solve the issue._*
It’s probably because I don’t remember the scenes that well, but I don’t see any radical difference between the voiced dialogue here and the final versions. I might actually be out of excuses for this one. I mean, again, because the voice lines are already *in* here it wasn’t cut because they were lazy or something, so, like... why? But am I crazy? I *swear* that that first Akechi phone call is voiced in the final game. EDIT: Looks like I’m wrong. I really am crazy.
Just beat P5R since it released on PC. In addition to keeping all these, I think they shoulda went the extra mile where if you didn't max their confidantes, they would actually have abandoned you.
As much as I adore the Third semester, I really wish we'd got more time with human Morgana, and Wakiba before making our friends accept the true reality.
They obviously cut this out for a reason but they did so in a weird way where it kind of half makes sense and half doesn't. It's like an awkward compromise. The friends' apologies don't really feel impactful and actually quite over-the-top because these conversations were not in the game. I think the reason they changed the content was perhaps because it gave Joker too much of a "personality". The game tries really hard to not have Joker engage in conversation that's more than a few words. More likely though, they just didn't have time to put this in with branching voiced dialogue options I suppose. I did remark that it was weird this stuff wasn't voice acted when I played. I think the way they chose to do it in the final release also works. Making Joker "plant the seed of doubt" into their minds and then walking away. I can totally see that as a viable way of breaking the news. The issue is they kept the awkward apologies when really they should have changed it into just discussing the flashback they each had during the cut content and maybe then just thanking Joker rather than profusely apologizing.
Since 3rd semester became a thing, the Christmas event isn't the most heartbreaking event anymore, this is. I know it's to break them out of this false world, but it hurts so much X(
There's so much great content in Royal that was weirdly cut out of the final release. All of these are so much better than the actual lines in-game, plus if I remember correctly, they aren't even voiced in the actual game. It'd make more sense not only narratively, but in the context of everyone's character development. Don't get me wrong, I think the third semester is brilliant, but I seriously don't understand why these were cut.
Some intros to these conversations are actually the same in the final game, but when joker says his first line of dialogue to them it’s all majorly different from the final, it’s changed from Joker telling the hurtful truth to his friends to trying to subtly get the message across to his friends, I believe this was a last minute change because everything after couldn’t be voiced so they had to scrap the voice acting entirely from these sections I do admit I like the more antagonizing responses are from your party members in the way that it adds more weight to the truth that they are running from
So it turns out that a lot of the scenes one would've expected to be voiced...were voiced. But were cut. Honestly the team being more resistant in this version makes it more believable that they would consider or at least understand what Maruki is doing.
It would be intriguing, if you couldn't convince them to break the fake reality. Even than what kind of ending would you get to beat maruki, but your teammates never joined you.
It would be epic if they actually joined forces with Maruki like Sumire did if you confidant rank were too low, or something like that. The stakes would be insane, but it would be a logistical nightmare to made, so I see why they dind't do it... But a man can dream.
Spoilers The reality of Doctor Maruki is horrible. All the characters are as they are due to the tragedy of their lives, and all of them achieved their own happiness, despite their pain. What's the point of Makoto sacrificing himself to stop Nyx? Or that the Investigation Team stopped Adachi? Accepting this reality is going against Akechi's will, Adachi's desire to pay for his crimes, Makoto's desire to sacrifice himself for his friends. All the suffering and character development would be nothing, because of Maruki
I do like that they changed it honestly. In the end, it leaves the message of this part of the game more up to interpretation that they don't make what Maruki did be treated identically to the Holy Grail I've always felt like the third semester, more than anything, helped demonstrate the problems with a truly ideal reality. The problems with a world where everyone's happy, regardless of what the reason for it is. That's also why I love, though, that the ending where you accept Maruki's reality is never called a bad ending by the game. The game shows you everything it has to say, and at that moment, it's truly about whether or not *you're* okay with that world. And by the end, it convinced me. I did, after beating the final boss, go back and see the other ending out of curiosity, and it just struck me all the more: you still get the credits role, you still get to go to new game plus... it's entirely about your morals there. What you think is right
Agreed and having the Phantom Thieves choose to learn that truth rather than have it spelled out by joker really does tie in with what they have been fighting for this whole time.
This is way better than what was actually implemented in the game. it was less vague passive remembering and an actual "battle" to get them to remember the true reality. And something like this would've made the third semester choice an actual choice since the way it was written in game basically tells you that this reality is wrong and shouldn't be chosen

I wanted to see alternate reality sooooo much more you have no clue. I was blown away when I played This semester. I just played it first time ever a couple days ago and I loved human Morgana and I wanted to see just a bit more.
Looking at the comments it feels like I'm the only one who doesn't really like these conversations. Like, it feels like Renkira's being super antagonistic when confronting the others and that just doesn't seem like him. Maybe I'd feel differently if we were able to see the player dialogue options, but it seems Renkira would take a more subtle, tactful approach to these conversations than this. Also, is that a Matthew Mercer slip up at 8:30?

You know what's weird, I remember these being voiced. Like I played throug Royal the first time and they were voiced. But then when I got there on my New Game+ they weren't voiced. So I was like "Wait, weren't they voiced before" so now I'm confused.
If i were to ever make a quote it would be like this for that dialogue "A world that is false and full of ignorance and blissful lies is a hell for everyone."
