1:12 Actually, some of them are used. The grayscale kel one is used when he is defeated in battle. The afraid Hero one shows when Hero finds a spider in his room (which happens if you choose to go to his room in one day left im pretty sure), and some of the other ones are just used as text sprites.

i'm really glad the emotion portraits were unused in FARAWAY. kind of reinforces the point that the emotion system was all in sunny's head, as it's kind of an oversimplified way of looking at feelings (fitting for a young boy who struggles with emotional expression generally). real feelings, as we see in the real life sections of the game, are far more complicated and can't be pinned by labels of just "sad" or "happy".

Edit: There was originally going to be a time where you could fight Something as Omori. The Red Space photo album would've had readable texts that would go with the photos of Mari's death. The angler fish/Angi monsters in the would've had emotions like other enemies. The Something enemies also have skills that are either unused or don't work due to their emotions being cut. For instance, Lili would've been able to multiply with one skill, the text reading: "???'s eye falls off! The eye grows into another ???!" Speaking of the Something enemies, their "do nothing" texts have been replaced by a text saying "Liar" in the final game. Some examples before they were changed: Dorothi: "??? cries into the darkness." Merci: "??? gives an eerie smile." Nanci: "??? sways back and fourth." (Almost starting to theorize that Nanci is supposed to symbolize a tree.) There are many other unused stuff but I don't remember them.

The Cutting Room Floor generally has the best documentation of cut content. Some things I found notable: the console-exclusive Mari fight in the Boss Rush has an unused defeat animation that involves her glitching and resembling Hellmari. Also, the image of Sunny with realistic eyes is named "nowyouknow.png".

There are lot of unused stuff like (OMORI SPOILERS) Some sprites for Basil, like one where his real world version is angry and crying, like that old image with rowan A unused skill for Aubrey during the church battle that makes Sunny or Kel angry A unused gif with Aubrey on the picnic with her hair being moved by the wind A unused sprite with HS basil, faceless and with the colors all messed up Hero with clothes similar to Bossman Hero A battle against Something(the main one) on the Omori route(there is a video on yt about it) A old version of the smile that hero makes when using the smile skill Some skills for Omori that you would unlock early on the game and i think that would be related to juice and emotions Mari's request, a unused quest that still is on the game, but will crash your game, unlocked after the duet And by last, it is possible that Basil would use a gun to take his own life (I remember with from a video about a demo from 2019, and the text was just a placeholder if i remember well, but still)

well the burgers on my mind incident photo actually gets put in your omori steam folder if you reach a certain point in the game

I dont see people mention this enough but the Happy Aubrey battle sprite is used in Faraway, in one of her encounters (I cant remember off the top of my head) she is shown with that same insane like smile, just without the yellow aura

Some of the emotion sprites are still used in game for example when your fighting Vance and Kim Kel can become sad and when you fight with Aubrey in the church Kel starts the fight feeling angry there might be more but these are jus the ones I found during my playthrough

Fun fact: when youtuber Bijuu Mike played Omori when it first came out, in one of the battles, the OMORI Toast sprite was used with the description "TOASTED"

Honestly I'm genuinely lost as to why they could have removed spirit Mari's sprites. The sprites were finished, Mari's design hadn't changed enough for the sprites to be "outdated", and there are multiple points in the game where we talk to spirit Mari. If anyone has any idea as to why these sprites were removed, please let me know.

Faraway Town Party emotions are very much limited, you don’t really see them much unless you deliberately trigger them. Sunny doesn’t have any unused combat portraits and he only can be tier 1 Angry and Sad, and be Afraid. In the files, he is immune to being inflicted with Happy even though there are no skills and items that would give him it anyway. Kel can become Happy when given Orange Joe in a battle, and he starts out Angry in the church fight. But there are no other circumstances that can trigger the rest of his emotions, all of which are at Tier 2 except Afraid. Hero can also become Happy if he’s given a Hero Sandwich item during battle. Aside from that, you won’t see anything else. Aubrey can’t have any emotions triggered IIRC, rendering a fair chunk of her portaits unused. It is of note that if you hack in Headspace items that inflict emotion, it will work as intended without issue. The party in the files are set up similarly to their Headspace counterparts (with the exception of Sunny). Another fun note is that the Afraid state has the potential to softlock battles if you don’t have any items to remove it since they are unable to attack, guard or use skills. This behaviour is exclusive to the Faraway gang and doesn’t happen in Headspace.

*spoilers* (in case that wasn’t already obvious) 3:16 I’m surprised you had Basil’s videotape footage of Mari’s death as a “minor find”, seems pretty major to me!

The older one feels more imaginative because HS is themed imaginary and kid core kinda so the old ones made more sense

Kel's Happy and Sad sprites can be activated. He gets happy if you give him orange joe in battle, and sad if kim insults him in battle. The rest are accessible through the recycultist dungeon.

The scrapped texts for...SPOILER! The Truth Album that was used to explain the incident, but is unused. Either way, I would not take the texts as canon, due to them not being in the game proper and if you need wikipedia to get an explanation for or a fan site for an event in the story the game already explains to you, then your story is bad and bad is the opposite of what Omori's story. So I think it's interesting, but not the truth behind everything.
