Unused Power of NEO (Toby Fox - Scrapped Song) 

Toby's Commentary: "After creating UNDERTALE, one of my goals for DELTARUNE was for players to finally be able to challenge a "real" version of Mettaton NEO that didn't just end in one turn. For that purpose, I actually created a few music mockups for an extended version of Power of NEO. There's even another one from 2016 (lol) … Unfortunately, try I might, I could never create a full-length version of the song that I was satisfied with. Eventually, the boss concept evolved to involve Spamton, and with that, the music changed as well. I still like the last half of the song. The guitar section was inspired by Brandish's song "Ending 2". All of it is pretty placeholder though. It's still fun to imagine fighting something to this... Though, if I was given another opportunity to extend POWER OF NEO, I would probably do something different." My Commentary: Finally... a (semi-)finished version of Power of NEO... the long battle... finally over. In all seriousness, great track! I love how Toby's inspiration from Brandish still shines through after all these years.

Mettaton if alphys worked on the defenses

Ironically, it sounds like it's trying to break into the freedom lietmotiff from the spamton fight but toby won't let it

It's actually an incredibly interesting meta narrative how the idea for a full NEO battle was planned, but the idea was ultimately left abandoned until he got the bright idea to mix it with Spamton. That's what the abandoned robot was in Chapter 2. The NEO fight, left there in Toby's computer files, gathering dust. And then, both in real life, and in the game's story, Spamton shows up and hijacks the Power of NEO for himself, essentially stealing the idea. You could even say it works in the lore, since the Annoying Dog IS in the computer lab, and could have been the "certain lightner" who created the abandoned thing.

I just realized something: Toby outright says this was planned for a real Mettaton Neo fight for Deltarune. This only became Spamton Neo's theme after. We almost actually had Mettaton Neo in Deltarune

Okay, so Mettaton NEO was definitely going to have an actual Boss fight at some point.

The shift around 2 minutes sounds like a megaman zero track and i love it

Bro came back after 9yrs and casually dropped the hardest boss theme

It's a really creepy concept to imagine if Spamton in a middle of the original fight was free of strings but then ejected out of his body. Leaving empty husk and the Spamton scene to play out. But then the husk gets it's strings attached again. Something is serious about ending you now and here. And now your only option is to bust that body up until there's nothing else. Susie prepares Red Buster. This starts to play.

If you fully regretted what you did... and couldn't one shot Mettaton NEO, they could truly fight you. Not to kill you, they would know what happened to Undyne... But they would fight you, at least for long enough to let others escape... And even try and get the message to Asgore properly through Alphys. They aren't the villain of the story, or the hero. Instead, they are fighting for their audience, for Alphys and Napstablook...

1:48 here it feels like Toby wanted to put Core motif but he kind of remembered at the last second that the theme would end up playing in Deltarune and not in Undertale and it wouldn't make sense for the theme to have Core motifs being the battle in the Dark World and not in the last battle of the Core

I guess in this regard with the revelation that Mettaton NEO was planned to be fought. If you exclude the phone-related stuff, Spamton NEO's attack patterns could essentially be Mettaton NEO's attack patterns - we _have_ the blueprints!

Imagine if Toby re-used this and he used a lot of unused content in chapter 7 in a place called “the lost hopes and dreams”

I actually got mad when I found out that there was originally going to be a serious Mettaton NEO fight, Spamton NEO is awesome but I’ve had that Mettaton NEO scratch since I beat genocide route.

Imagine if Spamton was never incorporated into the ideas for the NEO fight and you just straight up fought Mettaton in Chapter 2.

This is so cool, oddly fulfilling to get a full version of that song after 9 years. Though I can’t say I don’t prefer where things went, introducing Spamton and mixing him with the expanded NEO fight made for one of the best boss fights Toby has put out.
