Few Notes about New Jersey and New York's border. The main dispute over the early years was over where in the Hudson the border was and also Staten Island, who owned it. Part of the agreement that led to the whole Ellis Island issue was due to NJ giving Staten Island to NY (depending on what you believe NY won it in a race, SCOTUS gave it to NY, or NJ agreed to give it up). The Statue of Liberty is built upon an old fort, so while yes the island is "New York" and the waters are "New Jersey" The monument, and the fort which it stands on are owned by the US Government and always have been, the argument here is over the gift shop. Which brings us to Ellis Island. To a Federal island for immigration but once it became a museum and no longer used for immigration, NJ brought the land reclamation argument. The gift shop for Ellis Island (and what is taxed) Is on reclaimed land, so NJ gets the tax. That is the "big note" bout those first 2 islands.
@@mikegutierrez4195 I do not know the reason for that as I only work in NYC but I do know every few years states change something about their plates *atleast in the Northeast* NJ changed color, NYC got rid of designed and went full a single color, PA removed the keystone symbol I think.
I think this particular series of vids is so good because the texture of the pages makes a lovely sound, along with the reading of the descriptions with the pointer tracking the lines. Reminiscent of Melange ASMR, I love this style
I’ve heard that the KY Bend was formed in its current state after a series of large earthquakes in the area in the early 19th century changed the course of the Mississippi River. Perhaps it connected better before that. The earthquakes were so strong that the river flowed backwards for a while. Some parts of far west TN are also cut off from the rest of TN due to the river flow. They connect to Arkansas by land but are considered TN.
Unless I am misinterpreting the book's meaning there is a typo- it states the "most southeasterly point of.... Kentucky". However, Kentucky bend is the farthest WESTERN point of the state.
