UNWOUND & UNPLUGGED: A Mental Health Benefit Concert & Panel | Donate at SoundMindLive.org/Donate | Follow us on Instagram @soundmind_live
Unwound & Unplugged is a benefit concert, and mental health discussion featuring Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Julien Baker and DeathbyRomy.
This event brings together artists standing in solidarity to promote community support around mental health issues and raise awareness for critical mental health resources during this time of need. There will be unplugged intimate music from DeathbyRomy, and a panel to “unwind” artists’ own experiences related to mental health, isolation, and the healing power of creativity and connection.
This event is presented by Sound Mind Live and National Day of Unplugging, with support from LilSpace and Sage Therapeutics. The 12th annual National Day of Unplugging starts at sundown on March 5, 2021 and ends at sundown on March 6, 2021. During that 24-hour period, thousands of people around the world will be doing fun and meaningful things away from technology.
Sound Mind Live is a non-profit organization that brings together musicians, music lovers, and forward-thinking organizations to build community and open dialogue around mental health. My daughter is now out as trans. While I am supportive, others in the family are not. I showed her some things Gerard has said and how supportive he was of trans people. Now I've been a big fan and my daughter was aware of MCR and some of the music but she has dived in much more and it is helping her cope! She loves the pic of Gerard in drag. Made a beautiful woman, am I right? Anyway, older music now saving a new generation!!

@@cheapskatepanic I agree. Older music is amazing and has saved so many people. And I'm so happy your daughter has you. Unsupportive family members can really take a toll on someone so it's amazing that she has you. And yes, that picture is awesome! Another great roll model I look up to is Gottmik. I'm not sure how old your daughter is but Gottmik is a transgender Drag Queen. Gottmik is ftm and really helps with teaching that gender norms are stupid and that it doesnt matter how feminine or masculine you are.

MCR has always and continuously created an environment for the weirdos of the world to be celebrated. I think many of us have stories where we felt alone and we put on a MCR record and just the sounds alone soothed us in our darkest moments. Thank you Gerard for always being so open and honest with your struggles with mental health. The kind of conversation that encourages others to seek light. It's beautiful. MCR saved my life.

This was so comforting and I felt very comforted, they talked about things that I thought I was the only one feeling and it made me feel a lot better that people understand how I feel. I feel like most celebs are looked at more than a normal person which is not the best. Hearing all these artist talk about there mental health struggles can help put you back down into reality and push all the fame and crap away, so you can see that this “rockstar” is just like you and I find that, people can learn to respect them better. Sorry this was so long😅 Thank you guys❤️

Thank you for doing this! What a great conversation. While my art is much different than the panelists (I'm a Special FX Make-up Artist for film and television) I can commiserate with them for sure. As someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety for most of my life, I greatly appreciate this conversation as it needs to happen. And keep happening. I found a lot of my strengths through music. I honestly do not know where I would be without music in my life. (And yes, Gerard and MCR I owe a lot to for helping me get through life's trials and tribulations.) But knowing you are not alone in these battles for me is a huge part of getting through it all. So, thank you....

If it weren't for mcr I would never have started playing my music, and like they say about idle hands... I was, and still am a little, in a very dark place, and this band helped/helps me through it. I can’t express how much Gee and just MCR in general means to me, after almost 3 years of hopelessness and just kind of giving up, wanting nothing, I listened to MCR for the first time and I wanted to do something, for them. I still do. But it’s hard when they don’t know I exist, I recently got out of a mental facility, I wasn’t supposed to leave but insurance stopped paying so I had to, so I’ve basically been sitting at home just suffering through the days when I actually wake up for them, this gave me something to really wake up for, Thank you. Thank you for setting this up. Thank you to Gerard for saving my life multiple times and being one of the few reasons I’m alive. I hope I get to meet you all one day. Stay safe my fellow killjoys 🖤

I don't have any friends too and I think that would be even much damaging to me if I actually tried to communicate with anybody around me, it happened that almost all people surrounding me are toxic. I know I made the right decision, but that doesn't change the fact that i feel awfully isolated

I'm so grateful that these artists are able to acknowledge their own mental health needs. As heartbroken as I was when My Chemical Romance broke up, I'm glad the guys had a chance to take care of themselves and their families. My hope is that these artists can take this conversation and remind themselves to take care of their mental health when they enter back into the world of fame/public eye.

I’m so glad I watched this. My mental health has declined greatly ever since this pandemic started, and part of it was because of seeing things on social media. I felt pretty lost, especially because I couldn’t see the people I care about and do certain thing I liked to do. All of you really made me think that art is important, but of course our mental health comes first. I basically couldn’t live if certain music didn’t exist and that’s what makes it so powerful. I’m rambling now, but this was a nice experience
