UP stack, IDILBF 08, hauling past me W/B at Nogales St at Railroad St. on the LA Sub.
This train was moving at top speed and created quite the wind as you can see the camera get disturbed a few times.
This was very impressive from up close at street level. Nice......

In Arizona there was one with 506 containers and 280 cars, and with 5 locomotives, 20,000 feet long.

Thanks for the comment. This one was one of if not the first 'trials' for this size of train both the trip and the impact at the LA / LB harbors

Yep, it was scary fast, Snuffy... Made so much noise you couldn't hear the crossing bell which was one foot from my right..

to add to your comment, we watched on the Corridor from a distance and it took what seemed like a very long time to get the train "apart" and off of the mains

The whole test on this train was GE testing new Locotrol software for DP Units, that also why the train was Powered with all GE GEVOs, CP did a similar test with GEVOs and the Locotrol on a 200 car 30,000 ton grain train.

One story that came out from this train was that service city councils were not happy with UP not informing them about running this train. The main reason of course was for what if this train broke down on crossing, how would emergency personnel get around the issue. I believe everyone knows that this was actually 3 trains combined and split up in the alameda corridor to goto separate facilities.

I know right where that's at. I used to work for PC Club computers in Arizona and when in management training, they put me up in that hotel right on the freeway and Nogales - I would often come down to the exact point where you filmed while there.

The TEN minute "rule" is only if the train is STOPPED for ten minutes... :)

Thanks, I was holding the camera on a sign and we both were buffeted a bit as you can tell. It was awesome at 10 feet away..

@traindriver11 I thought that it was just a try out of the remote control equipment not a trial to running trains that big that the yards couldn't hold them.

301 50ft+ units.. my goodness. I don't know if it was 18k feet, but it was definitely over 15k feet. Imagine having to walk and inspect that train if it goes into emergency. Might as well go ahead and call a relief crew..

@Rocketboy1950 I thought so, In Fullerton (where we watch BNSF) the max freight speed is 50, this UP train was hitting 60+ and created quite the turbulence for me as I was rather close to the track (but still behind the 'Limit' lines) ... The sign I was leaning on started slapping me... too funny..

It was a good place to catch it that's certain. Thanks for the comment

@johnsoncm65 nope..that would've diminished the interactivity of "feeling and experiencing" the event to 'just a video' of a long train... or something like that.... Ok, really, I got there ran across the tracks just a hair before the gates activated so I really had no chance to prepare... so I used a sign whcih turned out to be interactive itself in the wind created...

The RRs can do this if they want. The big problem, according to my RR acqs. is that their jobs may be jeopardized if this experiment succeeds. The cities have nothing to say about it. Ever get stuck with a local switching near an intersection... that doesn't make news blocking the traffic for 4--10 minutes sometimes.

can anyone tell me why stack trains, and roadrailers only seem to be pulled by GE locomotives?

The video was almost 4 minutes so even at 60+ mph the crossing was occupied as shown...
