Still using the pk360? Looking to get one not sure if worth the extra money compared to a Weber kettle?

I still use my PK 360 but not as much as my other grills/smokers. Currently I see it as my travel cooker. The side shelves give it a larger than expected footprint but it’s easy to remove the shelves and the 360 from the base. I took it with me so that I could cook at an event for church. That’s where I saw its biggest value amongst my other cookers…. being portable and versatile. Strictly comparing it to a kettle for cooking in your backyard…. I can’t definitively say that the 360 is a huge step up over a kettle. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I’m guessing that the shape of the kettle gives it more cooking area than the 360. Both are versatile and can easily accommodate low & slow cooking and high temperature grilling. The 360 probably has an edge in being easier to maintain steady temps over a long period of time but once you learn how to manage temps on the kettle, it’s not significantly harder. Both will stand the test of time if you take care of them. I guess the 360 is more solidly built but you wouldn’t have a problem maintaining a kettle if you keep a cover on it. Sorry for going on & on (this is a great & thought provoking question), if I had to pick only one, I’d lean towards the kettle because of cost. The 360 provides a very cool alternative experience but I don’t think its differences make it a clear cut winner over the kettle. I hope that helps!

It’s the ultimate compliment when they forgo the bbq sauce! Well done! Just got a 360 and love it. Smoked two butts for a friends retirement and the PK rocked it!

I completely agree. The sauce can change the entire flavor profile. The 360 is a great cooker!

I followed your path and smoked a slab of loin back ribs cut in half on the PK. Smoked for six hours at 200-220 and then wrapped and finished in the oven. They were excellent. I put an aluminum bread pan with water in it between the ribs and the side with coals. It's amazing how low the PK can smoke without losing the fire. Thanks for providing the impetus.
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ

The ribs sounds great August. I agree with you about the 360’s low & slow abilities. Before O got mine, I mostly heard about the 360 being great at searing steaks at high heat. It seems like it’s low & slow capabilities are underrated.

Hi there Kenyatta. You are certainly what I call dedicated to the craft! Up all night.....wow. Don't know if I would survive that. You're the man! I just got a PK 360 delivered last week and picked up a 7 lb butt yesterday. So i'll be christening the PK with it (but not going to pull a all-nighter). I'm with you on the BBQ sauce. Nice watching you and all your videos. Stay well.

Nice work sir. So, would you recommend a PK360 or Hunsaker as my next purchase. I have 5 Kamados already and clearly a problem. LOL.
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ 4 года назад
Hi Scott, welcome to the Addicted to Buying Grills support group LOL. I’m always thinking about my next grill purchase. Anyway, it depends on your objective. If you want something that allows 2-zone cooking, then I’d go with the PK 360. If you want something that is extremely easy to dial in your temp & allows you to walk away, then I’d go with a Hunsaker (the 360 also holds stable temps, but I give the edge to Hunsaker). Also, the Hunsaker has a smaller footprint than the 360 (the twin shelves add a lot to the 360’s footprint). While you can break the 360 down to make it more portable, the Hunsaker is very easy to move around but you might need a friend to help lift it into or out of your vehicle. They are both great toys to have. Hope that helps!

Does lump work better in the PK vs briquettes?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ 3 месяца назад
It depends on what you’re going for. Lump is better for hot & fast, high temp grilling. Briquettes work better in the PK for low & slow, long cooks.

I purchased the 360. Disappointed and miss my Weber. The issue is there is no way to get rid of the ash during a long cook. To the point it chokes out the fire. I always start with a clean grill. Does an ash basket help? Also seems to take 45-60 minutes to get up to 250 on an indirect set up Any suggestions?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ 3 месяца назад
The Kick Ash Basket definitely helps with air flow. If you’re concerned with ash build up, then you may want to consider switching to lump charcoal. Did you get rid of your Weber?
@markscott4059
@markscott4059 3 месяца назад
@@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ I did. Looks my to sell the pk and go back to the Weber and slow n sear. Has more room and don’t have any ash build up issues.

Man I wish you were my neighbor lol we'd be tag teaming PK's I've been doing butts on a long time but I usually do it in a pan first to catch the large amount of drippings with foil on top not tight then last few hours I put on Pit basically the opposite as you but now I gotta try your way I like to wait for a rainy full day and start early like 6am

@@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ When temperature rises too high what is the best way to bring it down do you close off top vent or cut down on air coming in
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ Год назад
@@drifter9425 On the PK 360, start by adjusting the top vent. If you feel like you need to adjust the air intake, start by closing it very slightly. If you close it too far, it will choke your fire.

Looks like it turned out great. I've never used lump in my 360 but it looks like it worked out good for you. I usually fill most of the basket with unlit briquettes and then add about 20-25 lit ones and it will run about 225-250 for about 5 hrs without having to add any more. I recommend this basket for better airflow. www.kickashbasket.com/PK-Grill-_c_40.html Made out of stainless steel and you can adjust the divider.

I have a Kick Ash basket for my Kamado Joe that improves airflow tremendously. It never crossed my mind to see if they make one for the 360. Great tip.... thanks Wayne!
