These are mind bogglingly good and endlessly fascinating things to watch. Troy Grady should really take a look at these with some serious study in mind. Cheers.
@@FloridaManMatty Hah haa I think you are right! What they would need is a special fx slow motion camera that can take thousands of pics/frames a second!
I´ve been following your stuff since a couple months ago but I never commented, apart from starting that your technique is probably the best I came across with so far (even after listening to the greats such as govan, lane, scott mishoe and maybe impelliteri on the top), I´d like to know, is it possible to play like this but tilting the pick to the left insted of the right? and also how do you approach playing over chord changes. I am already subscribed, I´d like to hear more from you, best wished, Facundo from Argentina (the land where dollars are only for politicians)
Hey bud, I just shared this post below. Hope this helps. One time offer a FREE 10 minute audience/consultation with me, Roy Marchbank (world fusion guitarist & composer). This is on FaceTime or Skype in the month of February 2021. Following the highly successful ‘Shawn Lane - A Second Look series’ I completed last year for the Shawn Lane YT channel, there’s been significant interest in my Hybrid Sarod alternate picking technique on both the electric and acoustic. If you’d like to chat with me and share 10 minutes of me playing live just for you - one on one - simply message me at royemarchbank@gmail.com or through my website roymarchbankguitar.com and we will get a convenient mutual time booked in. Ask me questions about my technique, music etc, see chops played on electric and acoustic, with the Phat Bhoy pick and other picks, fingerstyle or slide over a range of genres. Longer consultations and lessons can be booked but as a one off if you’ve been wondering about my technique or any other aspect of my playing, now is the time to satisfy your curiosity. Meet me online and see for yourself. Look forward to hearing from you. Slainte! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vDZTwJetdgc.html
Immediately in love with your stuff, man! Where can I listen to some more of your music? I've listened to the four songs currently on your bandcamp and what I could find on your RU-vid channel, but are there any albums or other places I could go to to find more?
Hi Roy, just followed you here from your facebook post on Shawn Lane's page... any chance of a cover one day?? Would love to hear you play some of his full speed licks. Thank you. What an amazing video!!
@@LawofThree Hi Roy, I've been checking your channel out today. Seriously amazing chops, and your pick is very interesting. I will be trying one out for sure!! May I ask - roughly how much faster would you say it allows you to tremolo pick? 10% ? 15%? I can't believe how blazingly fast and beautiful some of your licks sound. Truly like water and much like Shawn, only faster so it's a different sound entirely. Very unusual, in a good way.
@@LawofThree I don't mean to trouble you too much. If you know some stuff already I would love to hear that, otherwise either of the last 2 solos in the live sneaky Pete's jam. Thanks man:) look forward to chatting.
Hey there, Thank you! The pick doesn’t increase speed if the technique isn’t there already BUT because of the bevelled sides the string is always parallel to the pick and it helps the picking hand to not get fatigued so everything is played more accurately. If the technique is already there then yes this can push your potential by how much % I cant be sure. It helps me enormously but I appreciate its not going to be for everyone. Have a look at my Hybrid Sarod video for more info and the PhatBhoyPick demo. Any other questions fire away 👍
Dude, he IS faster than Shawn Lane and Jason Becker. He dethroned them both like damn 😂. I'd seriously want to see an improv with Tiago Della Vega, currently the fastest guitar players I've seen so far 😂👌🙏
I'm having fun with these, but I was wondering if there are some transcriptions to be sure I'm figuring them out correctly. I didn't find them on Roy's website or through a quick Google search.
Albert Harting Hey Albert, There will be a book available at some point. I’m heavily involved in recording at the moment for a new cd. A new website is also just round the corner. Expect weekly lessons and blogs when it is launched. Thx for the interest 👍
Very cool -- I'll definitely be on the lookout for the CD. For some of the drills, I can figure out basically what's happening from the video, but the fingering and position shifts can be (gulp) tricky. Regardless, even if I don't have them quite right, they're still great drills and exercises to improve precision and speed. It's a bit humbling to see what % I have to slow them down to in order to pull them off (lol).
Luke Nolin I’ve been asked this before and had to ask myself what was the point of being dragged into single note speed olympics. I came to the conclusion there isn’t one. Sorry mate.
AleX Hi. I alternate pick almost everything in these examples bar a couple of sweep and legato drills. However, It depends on what I think sounds best at the time when I record a phrase for an actual track. Sometimes I combine economy , alternate sweep and legato in a single line. They all have very different sounds as you probably know. I choose as close as I can to what I hear in my head and what ultimately feels right to me. You can reach me at PhatBhoyPicks@gmail.com about pick enquires. Slainte!
Holger Seffen If you care to book a lesson I can back it up Live! This was recorded direct to phone with no video manipulation in any way shape or form.
Having known many who have played and studied with Roy, this is how he plays. I’ve even read Dweezl Zappa complement his abilities. Do research before trying to discredit to drawer players.
Guys, maybe my judgement was a bit premature and I apologize if I hurt anybody's feelings. After watching a few other videos of Roy's I've come the conclusion that there is no manipulation. But I am still not convinced by this picking technique regarding the rhythmical accuracy of the notes. To me it seems like some sort of fast tremolo picking which is not really in sync with the fingers of the fretting hand. It's close but it's not accurate. Play me all of these scale patterns to a metronome set to say 100 bpm using sixtuplets and 32nd notes and I will bow down in shame and beg for forgiveness ☺
Holger Seffen feelings hurt? Not here pal, but you might want to check your own ego. Everything I play is bang on the nose accurate. Slow it down and see for yourself or better yet book a lesson with me or at least check my Hybrid Sarod vid.
