The best investment you can make on a modest set of pipes is the chanter. We've never had it better. Comfort and clarity in your choice of pitch.

That's the truth! A good pipe chanter and pipe chanter reed are crucial for a great sound and pipes that feel great to play.

@@bagpipelessons I've been playing Kyo chanters for tone and comfort for years. The shorter reach works for me. I play Kyo drones as well. This is my 3rd set by Murray Huggins and these are 'post-epiphany'. Murray had a revelation. His latest incarnation is all his own and the best I've ever played. His earlier pipes were Henderson based and also fine instruments. The wait, however, is long.

I have always wondered -- WHY hasn't anyone made a bagpipe -- with the standard CHROMATIC scale? Wouldn't you love to hear bagpipe solos of "Happy Birthday!" and "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" or other common songs? Perhaps SOMEDAY, somebody will create such a bagpipe. And we shall hear the unique bagpipe version of "Czardas" and "Flight of the Bumblebee." And finally, someone will compose a "Concerto for Bagpipes and Orchestra." With such a chromatic instrument, I'm sure that many more people will take up bagpipe-playing.

Great question! I suspect it's because we don't have enough fingers... other wind instruments with finger holes use keys to get get extended range and chromatic scale.
