As much as I enjoyed watching and listening to the international versions (and I had goosebumps during those!) - I think, this FIlipino choir is still the best performance. It is authentic and culturally accentuated. Brilliant!
This is the greatest performance I've ever seen. As a Cebuano, I can relate to the song. My parents used to song it to us. It s also taught in schools. Kudos!
"Ayay usab si Dodong Nagtan-aw KANG Inday" - thanks UP Manila Chorale you've got the lyrics right (oh well, I'm expecting it actually). Unfortunately, there a few great renditions of this beautiful song that completely changed the meaning of the entire story. Its when they replaced "kang" to "si" - "Ayay usab si Dodong Nagtan-aw SI Inday" (incorrect) - which meant the girl staring at the boy, which should have been the other way. This decade long story depicts a picture of how conservative and demure Filipino women way back (and until today) for most. :)
It's understandable mistake since 'natanaw si Inday' in tagalog would mean 'Inday was seen' but I don't think the song is about the ideal modest Filipina. It's a fun limerick about a drooling Dodong sung in operatic style for more comedy effect. Foreign singers often miss this aspect, that it's a fun teasing song and they sing too serious with a cold face. Completely misses the point of Laaaaawaaayyyyy! Finale at the end 🤣
