In this video I'm taking Alpine linux and creating my "perfect CLI". Since it's going to be the CLI for our cloud native desktop it needs to be awesome and maintainable over time.
What if our terminals just came cloud managed out of the box? Tools to manage these things have been around for a while, but they were created before toolboxes were a thing, how can I meld the two things together. We can make custom distro images using whatever you want and get yourself a nice setup, with clean separation of your config for that S-tier CLI setup.

Microsoft provides something called devcontainers which come with a stylized zsh terminal, git, and standard tools for each main ecosystem. It integrates very well into VSCode. its cool to see the same concept applied on an os level

Yeah, I'd love for someone to pick this up: github.com/89luca89/distrobox/issues/550 There are so many devcontainers too, being able to consume them would be amazing!

I really enjoy your videos and I want start using this amazing workflow (inmutable FS, distribox,etc.). What I really don't understand is what should I use install on my host system? Only flatpaks ? It is useful to install vim or it will only be used on the containers?

I install vim in my containers because those are usually where I am where I am using it. For GUI apps I only use Flatpaks, but people do install gui apps in their distroboxes too, it's an option but I like to recommend that as a fallback if you have an issue with a flatpak. Outside of initial setup I'm no longer really editing text files on my host and the stock vi is fine for that. I can see people putting vim on their own custom images though.
