Your idols are the same as mine, only I’ve been following them a bit longer, I’m 72. That was in the days when we had more hair (well, not Mas) and it was a different color. They were, and are, a fan of the 1911. Me too. It’s been my most carried and used handgun sense 1968. Great videos sir, I’m a big fan.
Well done brother. I've been running Nighthawk 9mm commanders for the last two years. No hiccups here. WC are great too. Traded my 45s for 9's. still strapping on the MS vm2. Hope your well.
Very good to hear...I am in touch with a guy that wants to trade me his NH 10mm and it has some serious issues and he just sent it back and looks like they are handling it. I hope things work out because I'd love to add a NH 10mm!
A great update! Kudos to the viewer that hooked you up w/the 1911 dvds. Even though the clothes may go out of style, a 1911 and tried & true tactics never will!
Yes all 3 guys that sent me those DVDs were all generous.....funny thing is one of them told me he does not even own a DVD player anymore. Everything is online or video files!? The guy that sent me the Bill Wilson / Ken Hackathorn DVD set actually did not like the videos at all. He said they were too outdated for him but recalled I talked about those vids on VHS (he didn't really know much about VHS!!!!!) but those DVDs bring me back to when I started all this! I like that saying... Even though the clothes may go out of style, a 1911 and tried & true tactics never will! awesome!
Years ago, I broke out on a 45 colt government model 1911, after I came home , I didn't want to use , handle anything military looking , so I started carrying Smith and Wesson wheel guns, Remington pump action rifles and shotguns. But here and now , I've put my nice guns in a safe in storage , went back to 1911s and built a ar 15 and ar 10 , got a all weather Remington 870 super Express magnum. On my single stack 1911 , carry 6 extra magazines my double stack 1911s at least 3 extra magazines
Great video and SWEET gun as you know thanks .... carry 9mm HST 124 g key words you said worth it to me .... thanks again just cleaned my Valor have not touch it in a few weeks , ran it before cleaning it though . it was dirty and ran like a champ ..... Got to love 1911 's
Very nice my friend! Good carry load for the 9mm. The +p version is what a few PDs up here use. That and the Ranger-T 124gr+p bonded. Yes gotta love the 1911!!!
really nice vids - the Clint Smith stuff is probably my ultimate favorite. Tiger McKee on the 1911 is awesome however I think he is a student of Clint Smith. Or was an instructor at Thunder Ranch. Great facility and great training there. The old school vids are just cool as I honestly feel not too much has changed in the sense of tactics since 1997 till today. I get made fun of a lot for even considering those Bill Wilson / Ken Hackathorn instructional vids.
Thats awsome that youve had no stoppages! Ive had 4 stoppages with my les baer over 850 rounds only with that cheap perfecta ammo, but i also need to get some wilson combat mags for it.
I'm not really sure so I figured I'd ask....is that 1911 working out well for you? Hahahah just messin brother love the vids and I'm currently saving for a wilson myself at the moment! Keep making awesome vids!!!
Welcome back. Good to hear '1911 talk' again. I agree with you--the 1911 is a great platform. By the way, a bit of a newbie question, what was the cue that the recoil spring required a replacement? Additionally, where do you find the Winchester Ranger ammo? Cabela's? Online? Just curious. Thanks!
I didn't have any - I prematurely changed it out. I guess a little paranoid as I did run the gun hard. I admit right now not shooting as much... Ranger-T ammo is a restricted product (this is Winchester's rule). You might be able to find some online retailer out there that has some "over-run Ranger" in the sense they purchased it from a secondary source vs direct through Winchester. Federal HST has no restrictions thus can probably be purchased online. That is a great JHP. but if its going to be used in a 1911.....gotta test it first! Good luck!
I have 700 rounds through my Wilson full size tactical carry and like you, no malfunctions. I went from carrying a glock to a 1911 and don't regret it at all. I would like to hear more about what pound recoil spring you are usung and what spare parts you keep on hand.
the recoil springs I have on hand are the Wilson Chrome Silicon 18lb for the 5". Works fine. I do have a few firing pin return springs- extra power. The other parts I'm not sure if i'll be able to get them as they need to be fitted. Best bet is to also have a spare 1911 on hand. I know the LEOs that carry 1911s here do have spare 1911s so if one goes down or needs service they have another one to carry. Set up exactly the same.
Wilson Combat does a fantastic job on their finishes but nothing stands up to holster ware if you refinish your .45 I suggest getting a lined holster the money you spent on a Wilson Combat and the extra money for the lined holster is well worth it, my Hackathorn Special did not go into a holster until I received the lined holster from Andrews Leather.
so what makes a 1911 so 'different' that specific gun training is so necessary? if one knows how to handle a gun overall, there should be very very little difference between a 1911, a cz75, a glock or something like a ruger sr9 ... point at target, pressurize trigger. you should do a video about 1911 specifics that make a 1911 specific class necessary or specific 1911 training something that's needed versus a general class / training ... cheers!
I heard hearts breaking when you said the Pug was retired. hahahaha How can anyone argue against a 1911 that is 100% reliable, accurate, great trigger, etc... any argument is invalid. if someone doesn't want to carry a full-size metal gun, then thats a viable "opinion" but for those of us who carry a 1911 that argument is moot. Good belt, good holster that pulls the gun into your body, or a good shoulder rig, an extra mag in a pouch and call it a day. Thanks for showing us the rounds, I was hoping that you'd give us a look. Kinda remind me of the Winchester Silver tips that I've been carrying.
LOLOLOL! I get a steady amount of trolls that love to bash the 1911 big time. I don't get it. So... hey to each their own. Those Win1911 rounds I have no real experience with how they will perform but they sure do feed well in 1911s!
Its like Glocks. I didn't buy a Glock for a long time because of all the hate. Now I have a couple of them that I depend on and trust, plus I shoot them pretty well. I think the haters are the same for 1911s, or they bought a sketchy 1911 platform and had issues with it. 1911s and Kahrs, if an ammo feeds reliably through them then its a keeper.
I know this comment is super old but yea I’m a young guy who’s pretty damn skinny and tall and I carry a full-size 1911 with not much issue. I can conceal it under a regular t shirt even tho it’s a little sketchy lol I prefer wearing a button up or a jacket but I can pull it off without it. Not uncomfortable or anything in my opinion
Would you tune your own extractor or just send it back? Would it void your warranty? I'm simply curious as I know Wilson sells gobs of their parts and I don't know how they would feel.
Hey TheOl-1911... Don't ask me why but I nave switched my weekend carry to a Glock 38, 45GAP last week! I had a FIST Close Quarters Dave Spaulding Holster for a Sig P224 (new/un-used) that I re-purposed for the Glock. It was kind of a spur of the moment change but it's on my hip for the second weekend and I feel quite confident with it there. I'm sure that i will be switching back at sometime but ...NOT Today ';-) C-Ya...
I just picked up a Colt Combat Elite. It has many of the same attributes/features of this gun and it is stupid accurate and buttery smooth. I have about 500 rounds through it so far without a malfunction. So, what makes this gun worth another $3k over the $750 I paid for the Colt? I want to know because I really am at a loss to understand the value difference and how to justify another 1911. :-)
I have a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that I would trust any day of the week, its been perfect since the first round. Jordan Winkler has videos of his Mil-Spec going through drills and it has been 100% to this point. If you want a few more bells & whistles the "Loaded" version would be a slightly more expensive version of the Mil-Spec.
Have you had a chance to watch James yeagers videos on his experience with Vickers/hackthorn 1911 class? Very informative. It's a shame he doesn't enjoy a 1911
yeah get random messages from people that are trying to be idiots. Very odd. Its like a weekly thing now. Locally in person, not really at all. Only "online", haha
You're causing Commander-size 1911's to start calling out my name in shops and online. Stop it. You already caused a snub nose buying binge earlier this year...
