In this video of Sons of The Forest, I provide you with an overview of update 14. This update adds heaps of stuff to the game including fire arrows, poison arrows, shock arrows, explosive arrows, grind trap, spin trap, spear thrower trap, spotlight, clock, double bed, spear holder, spear rack, igor the new enemy, a whole bunch of blue prints, and a whole lot more.

It would be amazing if the enemies did gather resources and build new villages like you're talking about. Huge potential there.

Imagine if they build one giant cannibal town. Imagine if that town got invaded by a horde of the mutants, would be a crazy sight. Being in the middle of the town surrounded by hordes of em would probably feel like RE4 as well..

I can already see the small ones hurrying around with one of the big ones angrily pointing at stuff... that would be amazing. Although if the cannibals started to chop down trees, they'd have to be REALLY careful with that, that would shift the balance quite a bit, especially if it didn't require the player to be nearby.

one thing that's been mentioned a lot is the "filling out" of the map and small immersion things. i really think Endnight should do way more of these things.

Yes I agree, this is something they need to do especially since the map is so big, it needs more content in certain areas.

Definitely really important. The Forrest felt more depressing because you kept seeing stuff everywhere. It felt more relatable as you saw suitcases from your flight around too. Also the game needs a lot more cutscenes I feel. For every early virginia appearance the cutscenes should be Resident Evil esque. Cutscenes right now are pretty static and goofy

​@itizwhatitiz9560 i disagree. I heavily dislike the amount of cutscenes and forced animations for every little thing. It just makes the game take so long for no reason. If anything, give an option to turn the animating and cutscenes off to offer more replayability

What would be nice is if they would occasionally "spawn" a small village in random places based on the amount of overtaken villages. It would create the illusion of cannibals migrating and building. It'd be very immersive and somewhat combat the lack of villages in late game.

Speaking as a game dev, I can guarantee you that if the feature seems cool and seems feasible, but is not implemented or on the roadmap, it's because there's a prioritized backlog. In the case of having the cannibals build stuff and attack your base, it's not enough having the mechanics tech (which they do, as you pointed out in Kevin's behaviours). That would be a very GD-heavy feature, probably require lots of testing (though they are being permissive with bugs in this early access). Having said that, that would be a killer feature!

Endnight should put out a key or glossary of sorts for the building mechanics, explaining what each specific word that they use means (what is a beam? what is a pillar? etc.) would be great for understanding updates, and also give the community specific words to use when explaining building techniques. I believe the camp fires around the cannibal villages got cleaned up. They are definitely more noticeable.

I love this update. Especially the arrows and traps. I wonder if we will eventually be able to add poison and shock to other weapons, at least spears maybe. I hope they change shock to 1 battery. Loved all of your ideas too.

I love the double bed man, i would love to see more added to the shudders and some baskets for arrows and stuff, not to mention some end tables and table lamps would be cool. I do use furs as curtains though hehe. I usually play on peaceful mode realistic season. 😁😁 I always love you detailed updates and you're thoughts on the game farket.

These Update has me really excited. These features really expand some of the game play elements. But by far the most trilling part to me is how they're adding more to map. The since of atmosphere and reward for exploration drew me to play the first game, and it's great seeing more of that added to the sons of the forest. I'm not typically a horror or gore fan, but the, their games are just so great.

the new traps are so cool, a baby specific trap would be a god send, the babies are not phased by spikes unless they jump and the spring trap idk if they work because i dont travel to the beach to get the shells. the the addition of all these new traps makes me wanna redo my entire base lol

In the U.S. there are a great many springs in the mountains that people go to to skinny dip. There are whole buildings built around springs like this. There are irrigation ditches that don't freeze from the hit springs near my home.

7:20 A good fix for the search lamps would be to (obviously) brighten them, but also include a tap in the recepie, since the tarps seem to be made out of a reflective material. Lightsource + cone/tube shape + reflective materiel inside = searchlight

The shadow problem with the large bed is probably something to do with LOD shadows and i dont really think that endnight broke the spotlight i think they just have the light strength lower and have 2 lights inside of it to make an area and spotlight

5:06 this gives me an idea about how they could utilize the golf carts as a trap as well. Perhaps using the logs to create a blueprint structure like a tunnel, to guide the vehicle through it upon the triggered event of an enemy crossing some rope or wire. Essentially ramming into said enemy crossing the rope / wire.

A cool addition would be seasonal items, such as during December there could be a Christmas tree and other festive decorations. Or pumpkins that grow during autumn in October that you can carve out with the utility knife and light the inside. It'd also be nice if they saved and weren't destroyed after the period. (I'm not really sure if they should be or not, I'm conflicted on the matter.)

We actually do have a number of thermal springs, there's even one near me here in Victoria. I've never actually bathed in a thermal spring while in Australia still but people do. I have done it overseas though. It's pretty nice.

Could you imagine if they could build. Like they start building a village in an area you dont really go to. One day you end up there and there is this gigantic town that is ridiculously defended.

something i hope they ad is the ability to dig trenches in areas with lots of open space, as well as adding a Draw Bridge, as that could lead to some REALLY cool builds becoming possible. for example, the trenches can be filled with spike traps and such, which leads to normal Canibals being either unable to cross it or die trying, but the special mutants like the double-ender one (dont remember the name atm) can go over the trench to the other side by adding an animation where it does so, but ad a balancing system where it CAN fail this animation check, leading to it falling into the trench and geting killed by traps, and hurting it before it reaches the trench increases the chance of it failing. the potential with this game is HUGE. and the way they are adding new locations and padding out the empty areas is incredibly cool!

This game has the most amazing dev in term of update. The countdown until next update is one of the best thing in gaming i've ever seen in term of update. Even Bethesda take too long to update Starfield.

I wouldn't mind having the ability to route rope for trap triggers instead of the all-in-one packages. In addition, you could trigger multiple traps/spear throwers at once! Lot's of possibilities!

Quick disclaimer for those struggling to find the gore couch. The devs moved the findable blueprint for it in this patch. It is now found in a fishing cabin in the mountains. If you start at the cave where you find the gore clock and go upstream, you'll get to the big frozen lake. Go along the right edge of the lake and you'll find the cabin. Inside of that cabin is the blueprint.

I'm gonna have to replay this game after all the updates! Side note, I hope they buff the spear launcher and provide more stun animations for when enemies get hit. We saw in this video that some cannibals get skewered but they walk around for a bit not reacting to anything. I would imagine if you got hit with anything you'd flinch a bit especially with multiple spears right??

The thing with the spotlight is intentional small it's to lure enemies to specific area to ur base where maybe ur best trap may be. So the spotlight is awesome and good as it is not decoration

Send these note for devs : 1) add a blueprint for combining spot light & spear thrower. Which then can be mounted on towers or ledges/walls 2) make the lights spread atleast twice as far. Probably will affect performance a fair bit. 3) make the spear thrower free in 2 axis, updown & left-right, like how one would aim a bow 4) 2-to-3 levels of blueprint for special slots for enhanced arrows, so you can always have more normal arrows. like 30 normal ones & 20 special ones. The devs probably won't like it, but the crafting system in far cry 3-4 gradually expands capacity of carry items. Wish Endnight does something similar to that. 5) Extra vegetation on terrain is really good addition. Add more, & biome specific ones, like different ferns in snowy areas & different wines on edges of the lakes. 6) To make cannibal villages more creepy, make them a lot taller & slanted etc. I get that the scattered body parts around the villages add to the horror around it. That is more passive way of doing it. --- Player needs to have a little more fear when exploring the villages. - make the structures made by cannibals Dark, tall & creepy, more intimidating, like the nun from conjuring movies - have a scout cannibal/cannibles climb on those tall huts & use the height advantage for patrolling & alerting tribe members when they see you or mutants etc. ...In general, the cannibals should use/climb their own structures & player built ones to their advantage when fighting, rather than just charging. It was always a scary thought that a cannibal would randomly jump on you from the trees back in the forest. An attack from different height makes it scary rather than all attacks from ground level. - have cannibals set traps around their villages for players. 7) add a new cannibal/mutant that silently glides like a huge dark bat/vampire, attacking from above & flying in huge circles. Since it should be out of player's melee range for the most part, the damage should be low & repeated. Imagine if babies could fly. Not instantly deadly but scary & annoying over time... All the different types of traps really add to the passive gameplay mechanics. Wish Kevin can aim at different enemies when you are fighting in front of spear cannons. Awesome update❤

The 1st one seemed to have more secrets underground with the massive complex etc.. Still haven't seen all this but I've only seen small underground bunkers (like sled printer etc) saw the ending but it seems like so much is missing ??? What good secrets have been revealed now its been explored?????❤

I would be great if End Night added a thing where canibals cut trees, and other stuff and start building and expanding their lil camp into a bigger camp then we could find or track a base camp down and we can raid it then maybe break sum stuff and when its completly raided their is a hidden stash around the camp somewhere that would be nice fr it gives the player a sense to go out and do sum or find resources

I feel like we’ll be able to mount a gun onto a rig of sticks or stones, power it, and make our own turrets eventually. And maybe the Artifact will be a power source, and not just the AI controller it was in the first game

Those traps look like so much lol, can't wait to jump back in after a few more updates, luckily Kelvin sleeps on the floor most of the time so Virginia can now share with me, i mean let's be real here after a while she's basically in love with the player, seriously though the fact that they added a double bed is amazing.

I do think cannibal camps should have more defences. Not only to make it more difficult since players can just rush in and grab the items and leave. But also make it feel like you the player are intruding on their land. Here are some ideas to spice their camps up: - ( Walls ) Walls would be used to protect the cannibals either from mutants or the player. But it would also be used as a way for players to sneak around the camp without being spotted directly. Making stealth a viable option for raids. Either you could throw a C4 to blow a hole, or maybe use a zipline rope to sneak in from above. - ( Traps ) Around the camp there would be spike pits with leafs covering the top intended for mutants to fall in or the player. Maybe even a snare trap that immobilzes the player and we need to cut the rope in order to escape before they kill us. - ( Terrain / locations ) I think this is a important factor in order to make the locations more memorable. Either camps set up at cliffs or maybe on an island. Maybe even inside a cave? I think the mountain region is also very barron in terms of cannibal camps. Would be cool to have nothern tribes that are covered in animal skins to keep warm. - ( Roles inside the camp ) I think certain cannibals should have various amounts of tasks or activities inside the camp. For example: Sleepers, scouters, eaters, guards.

Anyone else see the "other" overview videos right after a new update in the SotF, but just ignore them and wait for Farket make one ;) I just think Farket makes these "reviews" more interesting and more clear what the new update brings to the table. the spotlights def have a more atmospheric feeling to them than being an actual light source. like that shot of your spotlight outside the door pointing out into the woods looks rly cool, but yeah it's kinda dim

13:06 this enemy type would be fine in a game with a block, parry, or dodge but Sotf doesnt have either. Also im a little confused why they didnt just offer a list for notes that you can choose rather than going through each one slowly one by one when there is 40 pages in the game P.S That AI building idea is absolutely genius Farket!

SOTF has literally all 3 of those, lol. You can block, you can tap the block button to parry and you can dodge by strafing.

@@thenose7254 Strafing is not dodging what are you smoking? Yes parrying and blocking exists but are barely even needed to be utliizedd because the game is so easy once you obtain guns or ranged weapons, the AI pose no threat.

@@nathanmitchell7961 When you strafe you are moving out of the way of attacks that would hit you. That's literally what dodging is. You are evading incoming damage. Just because it's not a Dark Souls s-based roll mechanic doesn't mean it's not dodging. I agree though, ranged weapons are really overpowered and enemies can barely counter them at all.

No, dodging is moving an instant succession in a specific direction, you're moving the goalposts because you just want to disagree.@@thenose7254 Defintion says: "avoid (someone or something) by a sudden quick movement." You dont have sudden movements by strafing slowly in one direction or the other, by this definition every game would need to only consist of strafing and no dodging mechanics. Wow such a mindblowing, intriguing gameplay mechanic for avoiding enemy attacks........just run in a circle, the whole combat system is incredibly basic.

The spear throwing trap would be nice to align along the fence where they keep attacking it. So when they go hit the fence the trap will spring and shoot along the fence line. 🤷🏼‍♂️

One thing I don't like is once you get a bow and arrows it almost completely invalidates most of the enemies in the game. It's way to easy to headshot enemies and they just stand in front of you not doing anything waiting to die by headshot. It would be cool if they at least put their hands in front of them or something. Also stealth needs a rework because is doesn't look like it is working properly. When opening an inventory while crouched you should stay crouched that way you can safely retreat and craft in a bush while being stealthy if you don't play with inventory pause, also freelook from your inventory would be cool to check if enemies are close.

Well, cannibals have armor which can negate shotgun headshot. It would be nice if Big cannibals or Fat cannibals could wear armor too. Or if there were cannibals with shields just to make guns less OP.

my biggest worry with the sons of the forest releasing in early access was that it wasnt going to have much at release and that they wouldnt put out much content after that. but god damn am i glad they proved me wrong. i just really hope the content doesnt stop.

Lot's of interesting stuff in this update, and if the cannibals would start building their own traps and whatnot, that would be really cool. Nice to see more random stuff lying around and the map being a bit less empty, though I don't really get the tarp... you're quite restricted in how many you can carry, and there doesn't seem to be too much you can do with them either. I'm hoping to see more uses for the animal skins though, especially quivers. Making leather from hide sounds kinda cool, but I don't see them implementing it and I don't think it would be all that useful given how armor is handled right now, but at least a quiver would be great. Or, since apparently it is possible for different items to share one limitation slot (ie it doesn't matter what type of printed arrow it is, they all count to the same 20 printed arrows limit), just give us a "60 arrows of any type" limit. Doesn't really make sense to me the way it is right now. Though that could be said about several limitations in the inventory, they seem a bit random (245 cloth... no problem. 6 small batteries? No fucking way! 🤷‍♂)

I agree since the cannibals in this game are way more advanced, or should I say more intelligent, then in the first game, I’d also like it if they added reticle sights, like reflex, micro (for the pistol), and/or holographic sights
