The people of Ukraine are asking that because the rate of Russian advancement is increasing since the manpower at the front is really thin now. Russian forces used to only be able to advance if they turned a town into a moonscape, now towns are barely damaged before taken. Ukrainians are asking (frankly only they have right to ask really) because they're worried and honestly scared. Considering what Russian troops do to Ukrainian noncombatants after taking territory I don't blame them, most russian forces are heartless monsters.

Not only that but it is stunning to see people ignore that war isnt some gentleman's agreement. War changed and in our era it is about taking away the enemies ability to wage war, that means going behind enemy lines and wrecking shop, killing men is almost pointless if you leave the factories making guns, ammunition and vehicles around. Russia has repeatedly engaged in - and won - wars where the enemy moved *many hundreds* of kilometers into their territory, razing major cities and even at times taking the capitol - and still won. War is about long-term defense economics and broader political considerations. Not about "who controls what section of the Donbas on what date". Contrary to popular myth, Russia's resources are not infinite. They are, however, well more than Ukraine's resources, but much less than Ukraine's allies. Thus, the obvious Theory of Victory is the Fabian Strategy and economy of force: wear the enemy down where you can cause them to inflict a bad ratio of their losses to your losses; burn through their military stockpiles; burn through their financial stockpiles; make them militarily inefficient; make them financially inefficient; weaken them politically; strengthen your position politically (encourage continued allied support and lifting of restrictions); and continue until time, not blind meat offensives, defeats your enemy. Instead, you keep tempting your foe to concentrate their forces trying to break through your lines, and then *hit them at the places they let get too weak*, maneuvering behind their lines and thus *forcing retreats* . See the huge cost Russia spent to get the Kharkiv region in 2022, and how little Ukraine spent to retake it. *That* is how Ukraine wins. Not by mimiciking Russia's meat waves. Russia's resources do not last forever. Its Soviet stockpiles of many types of vehicles will be largely drained by around the end of the year, give or take. Russia's allies are not helping it out of the goodness of their hearts, but because Russia is paying them or promising payment (or payment-in-kind, such as jets and air defense systems). There's only so much wealth and so much "IOUs" Russia can ship out of the country before their (economically weak) allies cut their losses. You can keep shipping planes full of gold out of the country to buy e.g. laundered western parts at inflated prices, only until you can no longer scrounge up gold to send. You can sell oil and gas to try to at least get some ongoing revenue, but that gets harder each month as Ukraine gets better at hitting it. Different cultures have different ways of interpreting the same words. In some cultures, saying sorry is seen as a sign of weakness, while in others, it signifies strength. Motivation works similarly. In my country, motivation and support are basically the same thing, just viewed from a different angle. So you see, I don't interpret his statement the same way you do. I think a lot of us are waiting and hoping for this maneuvre. It would be a huge capture if successful. Alas, the Kharkiv incursions have shown how difficult it is to pull off. The Russians are still there, after all this time. There is progress today again, but you'd think they'd have repulsed the Russians by now. Having said that, there's no real reason to compare the two fronts, and it may just be that Ukr is being cautious about risking troops in the Kharkiv borderlands. There's no panic there anymore.

I admire your optimism, I wish I was this optimistic. But as I see it, Ukraine doesn't have the resources to conduct a massive operation like this, also this corridor is very wide and the Russians keep widening it. And when you look into losses (like the Mayakovsk73 map) Ukraine is loosing a lot of tanks and heavy equipment in this area because they didn't build robust defense lines and they have to use tanks and ifvs to try to halt the enemy advance. Also Denys no longer shows the Ukraine/Russia losses chart, wonder why.

I guess it's the same standard in several western democracies. We all inherited, through defeats, victories, revolutions or influence, from the centuries old English custom law and a mix of the French Republic Citizen's Rights. To be fair in the beinning theiir was a fairly substantiale Neo nazi group in Ukraines paramilitairy forces just after the 2014 revolution. They just didn't gain any politicale traction and slowly lost influence. Nowadays i think even in my home country the Netherlands the politicale Party's that might have some leaning to this kind of thing is bigger then in the Ukrainian parlement.
