Ukraine announcing a counter offensive in Kherson is just a PR stunt. You can just look at satellite data to determine what troops are going to do. Russia has 30 BTG in Kherson. It looks like Russian forces will soon start an offensive.

If they're really confident in each move then announcing it to civilians (and investors) helps improve morale. If they can keep getting weapons donated and their soldiers have the will to fight they're going to keep coming back. Russia on the other hand can't be as transparent with it's movements, partly because it's stalling in what should have been a short war, the more it shows off what neighborhoods are putting up resistance, and the more people back home have to be reminded about the war, the worse things get for their confidence in Putin's plan. Obviously you don't announce all your plans to your enemy, Russia likely knows what areas could be taken or is already having to hold everywhere, there's also the issue Ukraine is using it's new artillery to soften up targets before it attacks. therefore if they call out the place you're defending, maybe you should quietly leave.

When I look at the live war maps the last weeks none of both sides made any advanced at all, it still look exact trhe same as two weeks agao, except for a few small fields that both sides won or lost. Its surprising that the Russians would fall for this. I mean generally military's don't publicly state when and where they are going to go on an offensive. They especially won't tell the enemy lol. Good job on the Ukrainians if this does work out. Additionally its very obvious that there is a lot of intel and strategic/tactical advice coming from US (and UK) DoD and CIA. Hopefully Ukraine gets more air defense capabilities, and more long range artillery/missiles so these counter-offensives can be successful!

I've always been puzzled that S Africa sided with Russia so soon and firmly. I chocked it up to the Communist radicals in the government. It's certainly inconsistent with the Christian S Africans I know.

He didn't concentrate 'his entire force' at Calais, that's nonsense. He concentrated many of the available strike units there but there were still some powerful units in Normandy such as the 21st Pz Div. The problem is that the Germans could not break allied codes, so they had no idea where the landing was going to take place. The British set up a clever deception operation and it worked well.

Training is very important. You can send the best equipment, but what good is it if the operators aren't trained properly?

Canada, among others, has been there since 2015, helping to train the Ukraine military and that was probably critical in Ukraine successful resistance.

I'm still disappointed we withdrew our trainers from Ukraine in January. They wouldn't have struck that training facility early on.
