Not necessary at all. Increased airflow will actually help with mold issues - but moss also thrives in high humidity. So you need to find a balance between the 2
Would this new/cut off moss be safe for adding to bioactive invert vivariums? Or, how would I collect the safe/clean/new moss that grows from the foraged moss's sporophytes once they grow?
Yes, the new cut off growth would be safe for terrariums and would be less likely to develop mold growth. But if you wanted to collect the moss that grows from spores, you would have to wait for new moss colonies to form (so you would need a bigger container where you just have soil, the spores would land on the empty space and begin to grow)
I use a mixture of coco peat and peat moss, but anything that is of a fine texture works well. Clay works especially well if you are planning on transplanting the moss you grow
@forestfloorterrariums hell yes I just found a bag of coir peat mix full of springtails and I put a really thin layer of that on top of some clay/sand mix, hoping to eventually transfer it to a trapdoor spider setup so it can use the moss for it’s door. 🤙
