update on Jesse's transsphenoidal pituitary brain tumor procedure | surgery, recovery, prognosis...

Jesse was diagnosed with a pituitary macroadenoma earlier in 2023. His original surgery date for a transsphenoidal pituitary brain tumor procedure was posponed 5 weeks and he was finally admitted to the hospital on June 28.
His 4-hour surgery turned into an 8-hour surgery, simply because the tumour was so large to remove through his sinus cavity, and his 2-3 day hospital stay has turned into over a week, as his recovery has been much more challenging than anyone had anticipated.
This video is a quick update for our community (or for anyone awaiting their own surgery) that talks - to the best of my ability - about Jesse's experience and what's currently going on with him at this time (as well as why we're not together right now).

Jesse is still in the hospital - there's still no answer as to when he'll be able to go home, yet. He is feeling very defeated, and very sick of being pumped full of sodium. 💙

I just happened to be scrolling through RU-vid and came across your video. The words Pituitary Tumour jumped out at me so I watched your video. My husband was diagnosed with the exact same tumor in 2021. He also was losing his vision, could hardly do his job with a tv sized screen at 300% zoom and also had the black/white issue with everything blown out. He could also no longer drive. He had his first surgery at the end of July 2021. He got his vision back after 3 days and was discharged after 4 days. Everything was going smoothly, back to work after 6 weeks. His year MRI showed lots of regrowth and he had to have a 2nd surgery in June 2022. He was discharged after 3 days back to work after 4 weeks. Then his Nov 2023 MRI showed regrowth again that was right next to his optic nerve. He had his 3rd surgery in March 2024. He is now on a 6 month MRI rotation and has his next MRI since surgery in August. I completely understand the stress and fear involved in this. Tell Brady he’s no alone, there are many going through the very same thing. There are also pituitary tumor support groups that he can look into. We live in Alberta but I’m sure BC has them too. It’s definitely changed our lives

Oh wow, thank you for sharing your story, Jennifer. Your husband's symptoms and experiences sound so incredibly similar to Jesse's! That's so incredibly that his vision returned so quickly after his first surgery - sadly, Jesse's got a little worse after the procedure, and it's been about a month, now. His tumor had stretched his optic nerves SO MUCH to the point that they weren't even visible on the MRI, so there was definitely a significant amount of damage. He does have a follow-up with his neurosurgeon and neurophamologist (however you spell that hahaha) in a couple of months, so there will probably be a bit of a journey with various vision therapies, etc. He still can't drive, read books, or a look at a screen for very long. I'm very curious about re-growth as well - only time will tell with that! My name is actually Brandy - his name is Jesse, but it's been wild sharing about this journey with our community and hearing from so many people who have had similar experiences. It's tough as his partner, too - assuming a caregiving role, and the unexpected responsibilities that come along with no longer having a partner that can drive! I never knew how good we had it before. I'm in Alberta as well, but he's a pretty solitary dude and I can't see him joining any support groups! He does have a good personal support system, however, and lots of support from our online community on Instagram and Patreon so that's been an emotional life saver 💙

@@grumblefarm I’m so sorry to hear his vision has not returned as of yet! My husband also has optic nerve damage from the tumors and the two regrowths. He goes for his first MRI since his third surgery on August 9th. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I don’t want a fourth round! My husband still has no sense of smell since the last surgery in March but in comparison to vision problems it’s small potatoes. We had no idea how prevalent pit tumours were until we started our journey. Tell Jesse he’s free to reach out and I can connect him to with my husband if he ever wants to talk to someone who’s travelling the same journey

Thank you, Brandy from the Future! It was good to hear the update on Jesse. I can imagine it's a weird timeline to be living, vlogging, traveling, editing, and worrying all at once. Just the bit of info you shared about Jesse's surgery and recovery made me shudder. I cannot even imagine how hard it has been for him. My only hope is that every day gets at least a little better. Thank-you for the update , you explained perfectly what Jessie will be going through right now , I also went absent on socials when I was going through my tumour journey as it’s what was needed to cope with the intensive nature of not only symptoms but the whole mental health strain it puts on you, the fact that you are respectful of his wishes and plans during his surgery and recovery shows the wonderful relationship you have , remember this journey is YOURS and Jessie’s journey nobody else’s, so take no notice of any negative comments as they have no clue how hard it is for both of you , I am doing well at the moment so I hope that Jessie gets to this stage one day too and you can continue to follow your dreams 🩷

I had the same surgery for a skull base chondrosarcoma back in march of 2023. 8 weeks of radiation in July. A year later no growth, so I'm thankful. I'm living mostly a normal life, just the mental challenges of the uncertainty around it returning. You can do this, it will get better, but there will be challenges.

Oh, wow! Thanks for sharing! Thankfully Jesse doesn't require any adjuvent treatment, which we're both so grateful for! The uncertainty around it returning is definitely a lingering concern for us as well, especially since the first surgery was so traumatic for him. So far his recovery is going quite slow - he has a follow-up appointment in September to get these rubber splints removed from high up in his nostrils. His vision also hasn't returned, so there will be a bit of a journey with that, as well ❤️‍🩹

@@grumblefarm might I recommend looking into a ketogenic or even better, carnivore diet. I'm hoping to keep my glucose and chronic inflammation at a minimum. Really the only difference between our tumors is mine is malignant and Jesse's is not, but I think both are a result of mitochondrial disfunction causing unregulated growth. There are a LOT of resources. I've been carnivore for over a year now.

@@pilotbri Jesse's been following a carnivore diet for about a year now! I was on it for a bit with him, but follow keto a bit more closely. I followed Keto VERY closely when I was recovering from my own cancer diagnoses (colorectal) back in 2015. We've been fully on board for a while now and agree it's just the best 🥰

Thank you for the updated. Big hugs brandy I know this is hard for you on two levels. One that you are not with him or near him to be able to talk in person and then two that it brings up past memories for you with your horrible hospital experience. I am sorry that Jesse’s healing process is not going smoothly and is a lot slower than we all expected Prayers having the headset helps him be able to rest more listening to music. I remember when I was have my jaw reconstruction surgery music is what helped me get through the night and with the pain Continued prayers for both of you and gentle hugs

Thank you for the update. My best wishes for both of you. It must be very tough. My mom will have an appointment on Monday with the neurosurgeon. I hope that we will have a date for the surgery then. It might be in a few months. I know that reschedules are very common, which is something we're trying to prepare for. My mom has a pituitary tumor that secrets hormones so the endocrinologist prescribed an injection that hopefully would help to reduce inflammation so that the surgery is not too tricky. We haven't been able to get the injection yet, tho. Thanks again for sharing Jesse's story. It is not easy to open up like that. My mom hasn't even told some family members nor friends. So everyone deals with this in a different way. But I've learned so much from what people share here and it seems to have a calming effect. I guess it makes it easier to know that my mom is not the only one going through this disease. It makes you feel less alone.
