I hate eBay with a passion. 10 + years ago they sided against me after being scammed, and I've been longing for the day when they are no longer the go to spot, or even go under. Their Seller protection is a joke, and after all the countless times I hear that eBay sides with the scammers, well in my opinion that makes ebay themselves scammers. Really hate to hear that you are going through all of this and hope everything works out in your favor.
What you just said made a bell go off in my head..."that makes ebay themselves the scammers." Hmmmmm... after what I heard they did to that couple back East a few years ago... And they do literally control everything. How would we know? Just sayin'
As someone who regularly sells on ebay, I totally agree that they treat sellers very poorly. Buyers get away with so much that wouldn't be tolerated in any other type of store and the punishment they receive if any is absolutely pathetic, even if they are repeat offenders. Ebay needs to remember who pays the fees and look after their sellers much better.
their mindset is if there aren't any buyers, there aren't any sales and therefore there aren't any fees. The buyers ultimately bring the money to the table and 'pay the fees'. Sucks, but it's reality.
I totally understand as a seller I don't get how eBay don't even allow sellers to leave negative feedbacks to buyers, but buyers can leave negative feedbacks. Good luck on the case.
@@MoneyHungryPicker I started selling in 2010 and it was something sellers on the forums used to bitch about being removed. So they apparently had it in thepast and removed it. Dicks.
and most of the negative feedbacks don't have any actual justifications. When you request ebay to help remove those feedbacks, they just deny your request.
Actually I watched a video of a guy who got scammed and did take a drive to the scammers house. Had the cops meet him out there. Scammer was not too pleased to be interrogated and put on the spot. Got his merch right back. Good luck.
I don’t sell anything over $500 on eBay anymore, and really just don’t sell much at all anymore. The scammers are running rampant and eBay does nothing to stop them!
I knew watching the last video this wasn't over. Ebay customer service reps will tell you anything to terminate the call and leave you in a false sense of security
Working in a call entre sometimes you just tell the customer what they want to hear inorder to clock out and go home. We don't get over time if we finish at 5 and there's a caller on the line who doesn't want to hang up 😂@@tiggerpatchvintage1826
Honestly, I would have canceled the orders. Red flags from the start. No way I'm selling something that expensive to a 0 feedback buyer. Specifically because of this situation and how much eBay doesn't care for its sellers.
I have been an eBay power Seller for over 20 years... Sorry to hear about your experience. I have only run into a few of these people over the last 2 decades. The only way to protect yourself from most of the Scammers is to sell low priced merchandise. Once you get into higher priced items you open yourself up to these individuals. Most of the scammers won't waste their time on items costing $15 or $20. If I do sell something in the $500 range, include in the listing you will not sell to anyone with less than 25 feedback. If someone tries to buy it with no feedback I immediately cancel the order and block them. It is sad you have to do this to protect yourself from Chargebacks.
I sell to zero feedback bidders all the time and rarely have any trouble. People who find the items through google search are usually zero feedback checking out as a guest. But yes - not selling expensive items is the best advice without a doubt. The only real criminal scammer I've had in the last 3 or 4 years was for a $1500 item - and luckily it was thru Global Shipping Program and they found in my favor.
eBay has always sided with buyers and leaves sellers in the dust. This is terrible. The fact that buyers don't have to pay immediately on offers, you can't leave negative feedback for buyers, and now this. So sorry you're dealing with this but I believe you will win this. Keep the faith, stay strong!!
This is why I put (READ) at the end of every title and put the disclaimer below in EVERY description. Yes, it takes my items a little longer to sell but I don’t get any crazy stuff like this happening anymore. I’ve probably sold 3,000 items since I added this disclaimer with zero issues. WE DO NOT GIVE PARTIAL REFUNDS so we record the testing (IF APPLICABLE), shipping and returns of all of our items to prevent fraud. If a buyer tries to steal this item we upload all 3 videos to RU-vid and send the links to them in the claim and they have sided with us 100% of the time on our 3 eBay accounts. I’m sorry good eBay buyers have to read this but thieves have taken food off my family’s plates to many times.
Your disclaimer has no legal bearing. You may have been lucky and not had any issues but that statement you put has absolutely no legal bearing nor does it grant you any protection.
Problem is for me, the majority of returns I have is from people not reading the description lol I’ve started messaging them after they buy to make sure they read if it’s something with issues
@@phakeAccount It’s not a legal disclaimer, just a warning to prospective scammers that he won’t be an easy mark. That’s prob enough to dissuade many of them
@@ballbagchris6920 if it’s a big ticket item I put (READ DESCRIPTION) at the beginning of the title 😂 . I know it sounds like it’s a bit much with all the stuff I do to prevent fraud but it’s necessary especially in this economy. It went from a few thieves here and there to most sells on eBay are attempted scams for me and that’s why I had to take the measures I did lol. Definitely out (READ) at the end of every title though. I promise you you’ll see a huge difference in scam attempts as long as your disclaimer says something that scares the hell out of scammers and sounds realistic. I actually record my testing, shipping and returns lol.
Sorry this happened to you and I know it's really frustrating. I'm based in the US and a buyer in the UK did something similar. I sent a brand new item and he switch out my item and sent me back a used beat up item and Ebay sided with him. Ebay did not do a thing. In addition I had to pay to get back the item and when it was done it cost me $275. I really hope you win. In addition please post that scammers info so we as a community shut him down so he cannot transact. We as a community can help combat these POS
We agree with you about high end items!! We only sell low end items but when goes for bigger value (not above £100)!! It's always stressful and it really shouldn't be. Hope it all works out for you !
I hope this gets tons of views because eBay hates bad PR and that seems to be the only way to get anything done. The only problem is they may make it right with the person that makes the video (just so you can make another video saying they did) but not make the appropriate changes to prevent this on the whole platform
Wow, sorry this is happening to you. We sell through eBay because we believe we have better protection than meeting people to make a deal in a parking lot. But you still got robbed. I pray that this turns around for you.
I watched your first video and the moment you mentioned you had a bad feeling about the sale yet eBay encouraged you to ship anyway I knew it was not going to end well. Always go with your gut feeling. It's not worth the hassle, headache and time taken away from your business and family. I've learned as a seller you have to be one step ahead of the scammers and always have your antenna up. I hope everything turns out in your favor 🙏
It is stunning that the ebay reports told you it was fine to ship to 9 different guest acounts, going to the same address. How is it that you didn't know the other 8 packages were empty as well?
Dude....sorry that you got scammed! That really makes my blood boil. I can't stand a thief and unfortunately eBay makes it really easy for them to do it. They shouldn't allow "guest" to make purchases. They need to sign up for an account, add a cc, and be vetted in that the cc address and the shipping address matches. This would help, but not completely eliminate the problem. But as you said eBay needs to stand behind their sellers because that's who pays the fees. You need buyers, but you got to have the sellers first.
I would prosecute this to the highest degree possible. Ask the judge for the harshest punishment for the scammer. This is a huge theft of $7200 that is as much as a used car.
Hey there! Your past two videos came up on my recommended tabs and I figured I'd share my experience. I own a retail gaming and collectibles store and often times we get people trading in high dollar ticket items. We had an incident semi recently where a customer purchased a $500 item from us and it was shipped via USPS with signature confirmation and insurance. The day after it was delivered, I received a message stating that the transaction was unauthorized and they already filed a chargeback and was demanding their money back. We promptly ignored it because if they were being truthful about the chargeback then I would've heard about it already. About a month later, I got a notification from eBay stating there was a chargeback and the reason was an unauthorized transaction. I was talking to a representative on the phone after and they said I will be protected as a seller because I bought the label from eBay while also including signature confirmation, which was enough evidence to suggest the chargeback was untruthful since the buyer actually signed for it. The case closed where the bank sided with the buyer, but I never got the money deducted from my balance because of the two reasons listed. eBay basically ate the $500. I know you said you'll stop selling high dollar items on eBay but I wanted to share my experience with you and others as to how I handled this situation and what the outcome was.
@@MoneyHungryPicker Anytime! Were all 9 packages signed with signature confirmation? According to the eBay rep, that was one of the main reasons why I was protected as a seller.
Sorry you have to go thru this.My sister had a scammer send her back a broken dirty item that wasn"t the same thing she sold them on e-bay. Of course e-bay sided with the buyer so she gave up selling on e-bay. Hope it works out for you.
My family keeps telling me to sell on ebay. I'm 80 and trying to downsize. After you videos no way could I cope with what you're going through, my heart goes out to you. I've told my family I'd rather put my stuff in our local tip than go through any hassle
I sold 600 pairs of New balance shoes all over the world. I recorded every single packing and sealing every shoe. It save my butt every time. A couple people tried that too. It's sad that this is not have criminals held accountable. It's getting more and more on stolen CREDIT CARDS. GOOD VIDEO. NEAL
Should have just trusted your instincts from the jump that it was fraudulent activity. Would have avoided the headache. Talking to eBay seems to have done nothing. Always keep your guard up. Wait til eBay hits you with “that’s the cost of doing business” line as they recover $7200 from your bank account.
Really sorry what you are going through trust me it's the same in the UK. Ebay always goes on the buyer side its so unfair.. I hope you have a successful conclusion.
Try calling the local Sheriff of that scammer and see if they can help. I'd also consider taking Ebay to local small claims court since they gave you the "OK" to send to this suspicious buyer.
I saw another seller's video on this same thing. She wrote a letter to her local police and the police department where the fraud occurred. She had to report to both her local police and the state where the fraud occurred. The local police would give the report and evidence to the police department where the fraud occurred. It makes sense that the local police won't choose to or be able to do much so not shocked your local police gave you that response. Not sure if you revisited it, but I would've made a report with your local in Alabama and then had them forward that report and any photos or evidence to the local police in the state where the fraud occurred and then they would take over the investigation. Also, not shocked USPS didn't help; you can report the fraud but they only gather the info basically for nothing at this point.
This happened to me two years ago when I sold a MacBook for £1000 when I was living in London. I have since moved to Toronto. I sell on eBay for a living and the buyer done the exact same thing. They filled a chargeback and won, nothing I done got me my money back. I felt physically sick. Im really sorry you're going through this and I hope you get your money back. eBay is awful for sellers.
You knew this was a scam from the beginning and should have cancelled the order. Never trust the advice of a foreign eBay call center employee. They have poor training, a language barrier to overcome, very little authority to help, and usually will just tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.
I recently started using Ebay and have been making sure to understand the problems with Ebay and every possible scam so I can sell on Ebay without being a victim. So sorry that this happened to you. Hope you find a way to succeed. It sucks that Ebay backs the buyer and not the seller, but unfortunately, money makes the world go around and with that money comes very petty practices. Thanks for making this video. It's a good learning experience for the future. Just goes to show that you're one of the more honest and trustworthy people on Ebay.
I have been buying and seeking on eBay for years. I know there are fraudulent buyers and sellers, and of course a lot of honest people. It seems like over time eBay has been siding more with buyers (sellers can’t even give negative feedback anymore! WTF is with that). Fraud on either side hurts everyone. It is in eBay’s interest to have a balanced approach. It really sucks when either side is unable to have a fair resolution. And yeah, having a lot of unhappy sellers leave isn’t good for eBay’s business. So sorry you are dealing with this and I hope it is resolved soon!
Good question. I didn't know you could intercept packages. You know, now that I am aware of this, I have little interest in BUYING from Ebay. This is unconscionable. I hope this works out in your favor.
I have been selling on eBay since 1995 and have quit three different times because eBay does NOT back their sellers. I started selling again because of too much inventory, but after this video, I think I will retire. Thanks for the update.
I've had credit card fraud chargebacks filed against me, and every time I had proof of delivery I was covered by eBay even if the credit card company approved the chargeback.
Sorry this happened, but I feel your pain. eBay would help me either but they sure took their fees out. That was the last time I ever sold or will sell anything on eBay. Hope it all works out.
There has been so much Fraud on eBay man. I Sell a lot phones on ebay and Ive been recently getting several Return Request, & Then they won't ship the item back and somehow they are able to open a case with ebay and ebay says they uploaded valid tracking whe they never did nor did I ever receive the return. Then eBay Refunds them without me getting my item back so annoying!!!!
Yeah it's getting so dishonest today that it's making online selling almost impossible. I don't sell much anymore but when I have a buyer I research them before I ship it haha
I’m sorry that happened to you, I can’t imagine losing so much money to scammers. A toys and collectibles online store also based in Pittsburg, PA is trying to scam me as well. They’re saying that a rare Disney figurine that I sold to them arrived damaged and are asking for a discount, but then sent me pictures of a slightly different figurine from the one I sent. I asked them for more pictures especially one that showed both the damage and the bottom of the figurine since mine has a distinct mark. They still haven’t sent me anything and I don’t think they will. The worst thing about this is that not only I accepted their offer for much less that I was asking for but that they’re a very experienced and reputable seller which made me feel very confident selling to and turned out to be filthy scammers!
I used to sell on eBay back in the day and have been tempted recently to sell some of my sealed collection. This video series was amazing, I will be selling by other means, this is exactly the kind of stuff I was scared of.
I'm off eBay for years now. When selling you are not protected at all. When buying ...you just end up buying way overpriced stuff. Will not be using it again.
I'd get a lawyer and send a demand letter to the seller and CC eBay and the police department in Pitts that they drop the case. This is a First Degree Misdemeanor in Penn. .
Sorry this happened to you man, I manage a pawn shop here in the UK, my recommendation would be to call around local pawn shops/card traders in that local area where this douche is located, I highly doubt he/she will sell them back online so may try to move them on locally to them. If you find they have been sold and this person sold them, you've got them bang to rights. Hope the cases go in your favour.
eBay is so anti-seller I'm surprised is even a thing. I did few tests, with sellers permission. I claimed delivery was empty box, did it 3x, and every single time I got refunded (around £50 each time). I did simply paypalled seller after I got refund. From eBay perspective I'm as buyer for money back, no real proof was even needed. Insane, no wonder why scammers are so common
I feel for you bud. Lots of headache that should never be. As you said, eBay doesn't care, they get their money. Just think of the percentage of eBay auctions that are stolen merchandise. You could post a separate video with the full situation with the ebayers name and address. That's all public information. I would blast them in a special video, then send them a link to the video. Good luck!
People suck. While back I had someone get my credit card details and even though I was totally protected they got away with it - they wouldn’t even give me the address where the items were delivered like they were protecting the scammer.
The trick that I used to be able to say what i wanted was to snapshot a page with my complaint clearly written out and that’s what i sent as my one page.
As a seller for 18 years on Ebay most fraudulent returns in my experience are in categories with man-children (sports cards, video games and computer hardware). If your margins are slim and these are your main categories then I feel for you, but if you do Ebay as a business I suggest spreading out into other categories that avoid these people. I would never quit as others post they do, that's basically letting yourself be defeated by someone else.
I agree with this. I would also put cell phones in this category. I've sold 8 phones from 2010-2015 4 were flawless. 2 were outright fraud. 2 were soft fraud "this is wrong with it I want this off" didn't fight it just gave in because of how ebay was. 1 of the full fraud cases I won. 1 I lost. Nervous now I got a few cards I need to sell lol. I don't think it would help but when I sell these I'm videoing the process a to z
As a person who has been scammed on Ebay by a seller using fake tracking I understand your frustration. I believe they shipped the item to another address.
Omg... So so sorry you're having to deal with this. Just when I think I can't be surprised by the depths some will dink to just to scam folks. I really do not understand their mindset I'm a buyer, bought pack of Mars chocolate celebrations. Not a huge purchase (I'm in the UK). The chocolates arrived, all was good. Never gave it a second thought until eBay messaged to say they fully refunded me for the item... I was so confused. So went to my purchases and the seller I think deleted or removed their account after selling a few of their things.. not sure but their account was no longer. So can only assume eBay assumed the seller was a scammer and refunded me. I contacted eBay and told them I'd received my item so not sure why I got the refund and to please reverse it. They said there's nothing they could do now.... I was dumbfounded! I went into my paypal and contacted the seller via the email in the transaction to say I wanted to send them the payment again and what had happened and sent them screenshots and to confirm this was the email i could send the payment to.. They confirmed yes so sent it under the "friends/family" so they didn't have fees... I didn't hear back from the seller after I paid or even get a thank you... Yes it was only £3.50 and if it were me I would said thank you to the buyer... but still, karma and conscience. Glad I did the right thing
Take the money out of your checking. Close your bank account and put the money in another account. If you get any issues you can fight the charge through the credit bureaus. Never sell to someone with 0 ratings.
This is a perfect example of why we need to stop paying taxes! Talk about taxation without representation! It’s got to the point that we the people have no government. Even though they are milking us for every dime they can. The whole reason for government is for people to be made whole when crime happens and yet there’s no avenue available for us to achieve the very thing government was established.
The trouble is with you you saw $7200 and you just wanted someone to confirm that it was safe. But you knew deep down inside, It was not safe to do a transaction with that individual but the money was too tempting. As the old saying goes: if it sounds too good to be true, it usually isn’t true.
As buying/ selling on eBay since 2002, eBay should never let anyone check out as a guest. And my number 1 rule is never sell to a 0 feedback. We all started out as 0, yes. But times were different back then. Just have to protect yourself. eBay has turned into a cancer.
All that stress and worry for doing nothing wrong...These scammers must be investigated by police, Ebay obviously does not care, i will think twice before selling again on it!! Good luck with it all!!
EBay don’t look into anything properly- usual side with the buyer straight away. I even had photographic evidence of my parcel being delivered & they still refunded the buyer.
Just regarding the buyer's address, keep in mind that a lot of scammer use fake addresses. I recall a Mark Rober video where they're trying to track down the porch pirates who steal packages and a lot of those guy's put perfectly innocent people's addresses and then do some weird thing where they intercept the mail or whatever. It's too bad the local police department can't at least go check the address out though or put a black flag on it in case someone else reports something similar. Sorry you went through this! I feel eBay shouldn't allow "guests" with 0 feedback to spend such an amount of money, they should either have to register, or better yet register and then work their way up in feedback first to be allowed to purchase higher and higher amounts as they prove themselves to have done some successful transactions first.
I had a CC chargeback claim from a buyer awhile ago, eBay covered it as they had decided in my favour, I kept the money from the sale. Smaller amount but that's my experience. The CC company will chargeback eBay not you, since eBay does the collecting. After that it's up to eBay to decide if they take the money from you, and it sounds like they already ruled in your favour. GL
Just a thought, call one of the local tv news stations in Pittsburgh and speak to their consumer reporter. Maybe they would do a news story on it. WTAE channel 4, KDKA channel 2 or WPXI channel 11 might be worth a shot….
eBay reps can block the user AND all of their guests accounts so they will be unable to purchase your items. Secondly, a package can be recalled by the USPS on their website simply by entering the tracking number and paying a fee, as long as it’s not out for delivery or delivered. So as soon as they asked to cancel or for a refund that should be the first thing you do. Call eBay and block all their accounts and recall each package so they get returned to you, the seller. I’ve done it.
Im watching this because this just happened to me. I sold a vintage car radio out of a Ferrari. Had it listed as for parts or repair and no returns as is no way to test. Guy made a 50 percent ;less offer and I excepted it. Well a partial radio came back missing the face plate and knobs and rattling like theres something in it. Ebay says they are going to side with the buyer blah blah, same old letter they send to everyone. Didnt even look at the pics they requested because they said I can relist it. How now?? Who knows what he took out of it? Wasnt a new radio. I have never been sided with one time. Sold a vintage grille out of a 1969 Skylark that said had a crack in it with multiple clear pics and the guy filed a claim claim saying not as described because it had a crack in it. Took a partial refund so it didny bother him enough to send it back did it??? Then a couple of months ago I sell a condensor motor for HVAC and it was brand new. Guy files a return saying it doesnt work. He installed it and it has nut and bolt scratches now but I tested it and it works perfect like it should. Guys used it to test his problem and that wasnt it. So how do I sell that now as new? Taking a lose on that I guess. Down graded my store yesterday because why pay them to do this???? Going to use FB marhetplace more. Ebay is complicit in stealing and should be sued Class action. Nothing over 50.00 bucks anymore. Its shocking they havnt been on a huge news story.
Thanks for posting this update video! I sell trading cards and make sales on ebay from time to time. Hearing this confirms my belief that i shouldn't post anything there unless I'm willing to take it as a loss.
I've had very good luck over my 23 years on ebay, overall. Probably half a million transactions, been defrauded maybe 4-5 times. I've sold items that were as much as $10,000, it was always relatively small sales (under $500). In a case like this though, I believe that ebay should personally reimburse you. You preemptively called them more than once before shipping, they instructed you to ship, and insured you that it was not fraudulent. I'd probably delve deep into who this scammer is, and make their life miserable for a very long time. Also yes, intercepting the packages would have been smart, but when you haven't dealt with something like this, you don't think about it.
I had to SUE ebay themselves in court and received a default judgment bc no representation showed up in claims court for eBay. I had sold a graded rookie card and was sent back a fake. Ebay ruled on favor for the buyer and that was it for me on ebay!
I'm a buyer and fraud has hit me to , I know you're pain . Ebay has done nothing for me and that's to bad . Keep up the good fight , I hate all fraud .
So many scammers out there these days. Yours is yet another horror story I’ve heard and goes to show that eBay heavily favors the buyer. There will alway be scam sellers and scam buyers but to only protect the buyer is one of the reasons I’ve mostly stopped selling anything on eBay. Hope this resolves in your favor.
I stop selling on eBay for this exact same reason. I got scammed by a buyer and even know eBay sided with me. I lost through the credit card company. lucky it was only $500. Still a lot of money but not know $7500!! Hope it works out for you. eBay really needs to fix this problem and be more helpful to the seller.
I believe the 9 different purchases were done to make fighting this harder. The fed's love to indict and the fact this was done in a premeditated fashion 9 times would only make it a better case for them. If he was ever charged federally no lawyer would ever be able to argue you as the victim was not out less than $7200.
As a fellow reseller my heart goes out to you. I sincerely hope that this is resolved in your favor. I honestly don't know what I would do, I'd probably get myself into more trouble since I had the person's address. Good luck 👍
Realize that you are a little fish in the HUGE ebay seller's pond and also realize big insurance would have to read this but this is a BIG opportunity for some ebay company or not to be a insurance company that can go after these kinds of people and put them away. Just a thought and thanks for all the information
